My husband and I got a call from someone saying they were from the IRS.   Said we owed back taxes.  And if we didn't pay $2986 immediately they would freeze our assets and have us arrested.  I initially tried calling the IRS to determine if there really was a judgement against us.  But couldn't get through to a live person.  That's when I did a Google search on the number and found this site.  Apparently we aren't the first he attempted to scam.  My biggest concern was that he had all of our past addresses.  Guess he does some research before he makes a call.

this guy had a indian accent telling me thati owe money when i told him how do i know this isn't a prank call he told me he was gonna send a guy to my house to explain 1 month later he never showed up lol

I received a phone call at 5 am this morning. I did not answer it so it went to voice mail . He said he was from the IRS and I needed to call him back. It was time sensitive .I have no reason for the IRS calling me so I looked up the number online and it seems to be a scam.the number is 12025343918

Looks like someone is calling randomly. Just got a similar call from a guy with an Indian accent.

I received a call from this number and it said David cooper from IRS saying we have a lawsuit against our name and he had an Indian accent.

Same call I received claiming he a IRS agent and suit has been filed, if I don't call back I will be in trouble. Its a Indian accent trying to be American, they think we guys are so stupid to believe them.

WASHINGTON ? The Internal Revenue Service today warned consumers about a sophisticated phone scam targeting taxpayers, including recent immigrants, throughout the country.

Victims are told they owe money to the IRS and it must be paid promptly through a pre-loaded debit card or wire transfer. If the victim refuses to cooperate, they are then threatened with arrest, deportation or suspension of a business or driver?s license. In many cases, the caller becomes hostile and insulting.

?This scam has hit taxpayers in nearly every state in the country.  We want to educate taxpayers so they can help protect themselves.  Rest assured, we do not and will not ask for credit card numbers over the phone, nor request a pre-paid debit card or wire transfer,? says IRS Acting Commissioner Danny Werfel. ?If someone unexpectedly calls claiming to be from the IRS and threatens police arrest, deportation or license revocation if you don?t pay immediately, that is a sign that it really isn?t the IRS calling.? Werfel noted that the first IRS contact with taxpayers on a tax issue is likely to occur via mail
Other characteristics of this scam include:
Scammers use fake names and IRS badge numbers. They generally use common names and surnames to identify themselves.
Scammers may be able to recite the last four digits of a victim?s Social Security Number.
Scammers spoof the IRS toll-free number on caller ID to make it appear that it?s the IRS calling.
Scammers sometimes send bogus IRS emails to some victims to support their bogus calls.
Victims hear background noise of other calls being conducted to mimic a call site.
After threatening victims with jail time or driver?s license revocation, scammers hang up and others soon call back pretending to be from the local police or DMV, and the caller ID supports their claim.
If you get a phone call from someone claiming to be from the IRS, here?s what you should do:
If you know you owe taxes or you think you might owe taxes, call the IRS at 1.800.829.1040. The IRS employees at that line can help you with a payment issue ? if there really is such an issue.
If you know you don?t owe taxes or have no reason to think that you owe any taxes (for example, you?ve never received a bill or the caller made some bogus threats as described above), then call and report the incident to the Treasury Inspector General for Tax Administration at 1.800.366.4484.
If you?ve been targeted by this scam, you should also contact the Federal Trade Commission and use their ?FTC Complaint Assistant? at FTC.gov.  Please add "IRS Telephone Scam" to the comments of your complaint.
Taxpayers should be aware that there are other unrelated scams (such as a lottery sweepstakes) and solicitations (such as debt relief) that fraudulently claim to be from the IRS.
The IRS encourages taxpayers to be vigilant against phone and email scams that use the IRS as a lure. The IRS does not initiate contact with taxpayers by email to request personal or financial information.  This includes any type of electronic communication, such as text messages and social media channels. The IRS also does not ask for PINs, passwords or similar confidential access information for credit card, bank or other financial accounts. Recipients should not open any attachments or click on any links contained in the message. Instead, forward the e-mail to phishing@irs.gov.

got a call on 1/24/14 from male posing as IRS agent stating that IRS has filed a lawsuit against us .
It is important for us to call him back . We called from a different number . someone answered
immediately , ' IRS , how may I help you .' we hung up . obviously a scam . we called a second time ,
there was no answer . Real IRS has only 800 numbers and they never answer the phone .

Got same call from "IRS" several times; finally checked on the internet to verify the number; never responded to the call. Wonder why the IRS or the FBI cannot put an and to these scams!

I got a message on my home  with phone number 202-534-3918  a guy name Mark Audhet clamming he is from IRS
and they filed a lawsuit against me and I need to call them ASAP!!

Got the same call, didn't use my name, and i dont owe any money. Going to call IRS.

I got a call at 7:45am today (Saturday) it was a robocall about being sued by the IRS. I called back immediately and the man who answered said "Good morning IRS how can I help you?" I knew that it was a scam but I still got a bit worried. Please warn your friends and family!

I received two messages and called back and asked him for his information. He was the same guy as described above.
Total scammer. Someone needs to put a stop to these people

First of all, he is NOT of Middle Eastern accent you, dimwits. He is of Indian origin and that was confirmed with my follow-up call to the IRS who reported me about this piece of shi$!

Secondly, same story money owed and arrested if you don't. As soon as he told about the method of payment and the fact that none of the letters were received I realized that this guy is a j***-off.

Nuff said, why can't they arrest this piece if shi@! I sent over his info to the IRS too.

Got a call from this number claiming as irs agent. He is fonny do not answer this call.

I knew it was a scam , called back until I got an answer . He told me I was getting arrested at 1:00pm
I played along for ten minutes, and then I called him every name you can imagine !!!! I hope everyone calls him back and plays along ...

I received the same message from 202 534 3918 stating that IRS has  law suit against. I should not disregard this call and call back this number immediately.

Got call from this number. It is scam, same story, I owe taxes from 2008 in the amount of $3029. When i called back and talk to him he wanted me to go to CVS and get reload packs :) if I wanted to avoid to get arrested today.
Shame was i heard over the phone they have some other poor sod on the line who is actually giving them numbers with payments.

Got a call to my residence line (562 area code) today 1/14/2014, stating that the person said that he is from IRS and I owe back taxes. I hung up, called back the caller id.  The call did not go thru. Though it is a Scam.. and googled and got this site, and reporting it here.

Called and left message stating I owed back taxes.

Agent with a middle eastern accent said that he was the attorney for the IRS Mark Gordon.  He said that the IRS has filed a lawsuit against us and that we need to give him a call back or we will go to jail.  Seemed like a scam so we did not call back.

Caller claims to be an IRS agent. Said I owed back taxes for filling fradulent taxes in 2008.  Told me to wire the money.  Ha Ha Ha..........what a dumb a** he is..
