Caller ID says AICR.
AICR is a scam charity. They call almost daily and they also call from a variety of numbers. Today I spoke with a rep and told him to put me on their do not call list. He was polite enough and claimed compliance.
However, my phone number is already on the Federal Do Not Call List. Charities are legally exempt from complying with the DNC, but why would any charity that wasn't a scam not respect the request for privacy of numbers on the list? A real charity would respect the list whether bound by the law or not. Therefore any charity which calls a number on the Federal DNC can be correctly classified as a scam.

Total scam organization. Their telemarketing practices are shameful. Repeated complaints to the FTC are ineffective.
No one should donate or do business with this organization as they are not doing anything but trying to scam people out of money. I have gotten as many as three hang up phone calls in a single day and I am getting many calls each week even though I have all their phone numbers blocked.
What does it say about a company who cannot even realize they are totally ineffective?

Forgot to say that the calls come from about 3 different numbers. This is the one that called today.

They called from AICR and American Institute for Cancer Research once or twice a day for 2 1/2 weeks. Finally I picked up. No, they wanted to talk to my husband, not me, so although I politely asked them not to call back, they still called. Another 5 days go by. Husband answers, says no, can't help by mailing out 5 letters to our neighbors asking for money, then gets talked into it. He wants to help fundraise for cancer since he had it, so if that's the way he wants to, I shouldn't complain. Still, very annoying.
Well, that wasn't enough apparently. They called back the next day. I said he'd talked to them already, not to call back. They said it was a follow-up call. I asked them not to call back and hung up. They are STILL CALLING! I will not pick up. I have to wonder why they'd keep calling. One hand doesn't know what the other one's doing?

I keep receiving calls from 202-607-2946. They do not leave a message. I accidentally answered one call and they asked me if they could mail a packet so that I could mail donation notices to my neighbors on "Messler Road"...I live on Messner Road!! I agreed...then asked them to remove my number from their list. We received another call from them last evening. I am very tired of this...wondering where they got our number.

This # has called me several times a day. I have noticed a pattern with these calls. If you don't pick up the first time around, they will call back with an unknown # or a private call showing on the caller ID. Now when you call back the 202 #, the automated system will give the whole speel of what they do and who they are, and if you click the option "TO HEAR MORE ABOUT THEM", after they put you thru and give you a little more info, they will then give you the option for you to have your # removed from their system. Then they go into how it will take a few days and that the Federal Law gives them that time. So I don't know if they are legit or not. I personally do not have a crystal ball or the knowledge to make that judgement. I think they may be real. I personally removed my # cuz I am broke not because I didn't want to donate. I think anyone doing God's work with that kind of mission in life should be treated with respect and honor when they call.

So many calls, I see the number, push the answer button, no talk just let their minutes & cost go up by a few pennies.

American Institute for Cancer Research, a boiler room SCAM call. This is NOT the American Cancer Society. They call everyday from early am to late pm. Do not call lists do not apply as they are calling from a regular phone number from the Washington DC area.

This caller keeps calling my number over and over. I usually ignore it but would like to see whomever is calling get taken down. If it is, as you say, some sort of scam I would like these people to be stopped.

AICR is just short of a criminal scam. They have a horrendous record when it comes to getting money to people actually doing something about cancer. The following is part of a 2009 financial statement from charitynavigator.com:
Revenue
Primary Revenue $32,430,837
Other Revenue $630,498
Total Revenue $33,061,335
Expenses
Program Expenses $20,718,504
Administrative Expenses $3,719,910
Fundraising Expenses $7,608,928
Total Functional Expenses $32,047,342
Payments to Affiliates $97,807
Excess (or Deficit) for the year $1,013,993
Net Assets $10,068,737
If you want to see the whole ugly mess, check out the report and rating here:

AICR is about the best way I can imagine to keep money away from legitimate cancer research organizations.

Scammy "American Institute for Cancer Research". If you block this number they'll call you from another with a different area code such as 888-240-9772 and 877-275-6835.
