often when you get a call like that they are phoning the person who previously had the number. sometimes it can be the best match to the name they have even if it's not your correct first name. there is no way to know who they are really calling so don't take it personal if they have a wrong number. if you are answering & they aren't responding often the call hasn't connected on the representatives end, if you hold the line sometimes they will come after you've said hello a few times. you should be able to politely ask them to remove your number from their list & they have to do it.

Have been getting calls from this number almost daily. Did answer it one time but no one says anything. So from now on I do not answer the call and when it goes to my voice mail they do not leave a message.

The ACLJ is an organization of right-wing Christian evangelicals who do not have anyone's interests at heart other than their own twisted views. They are interested in protecting the free-speech rights only of those who agree with their agenda.
The fact that they call me and hangup on a daily basis tells me that they are not nearly as honorable an organization as the ACLU.

Lady calling for Lutz, have no idea who that is. We had this number 6 months and people keep calling lately looking for Lutz. She asked for Miss Lutz and I said "Yo, this is misses Lutz what can I help you with" she laughed and I then told her people keep calling here and there has never been a Lutz here and she said sorry and she would take care of this.

I called 800-296-4529 this morning and the receptionist immediately transferred me to someone who could place my number on their internal do not call listing. There were no attempts to ask me why I wanted my name removed or any efforts to keep me on the line. They took my number, read it back to make sure they had it right, and then apologized for the inconvenience. No hassles at all. I understand not wanting to interact with those who make unsolicited telemarketing calls, but these folks will process your request without turning it into an ordeal.

They told me today that they were lawyers! When I tried to call the number back it said it was disconnected!

(202)652-4589 calls maybe 5 times a day, sometimes more. I answered it today and no one was there. Is this a aclj marketing scam. How can I get them to stop??

This sounds like the standard "Boiler Room" calling that mass marketing companies make. The reason many of you are experiencing "hang-ups" is that they employ what are called "automatic dialers" which place a great number of calls at the same time. When one of the agents in their pool of agents becomes available and connects to one of those calls that have just been placed by the automatic dialer, all other calls that have been placed that don't have an available agent to take them will simply hang up. The purpose of that automatic dialer is to make sure the agents don't sit around twiddling their thumbs while the dialer places a new call when they end their previous one. It's for the telemarketing company's benefit, not yours. I retired after 35 years in the telecommunications business and understand how annoying this is for everyone. I personally went to the US Govt. site that restricts telemarketing calls. It takes approximately 30 days to go into affect but it stops most of those calls. It WILL NOT stop charitable organizations and political calls, and calls from companies you normally do business with or their affiliates (businesses they in turn do business with). The web site is referred to as the National Do Not Call Registry. There is a great deal of information available on that web site. It can be reached at https://www.donotcall.gov/ and calling their number from your phone. You can also sign up online. The law has been updated so that there is no expiration date. Meaning you only have to register once. I believe fines for violations are something in the neighborhood of $11,000 per violation, but don't quote me on that. I'll leave that up to the government. Cheers and good luck.

They call from 9 am til 9pm- I don't answer, but see it on caller ID. They say my name on machine and then hang up. I need to answer next time around and get off of their list.

I called the 800 number you listed, spoke with Tina, and she said that I was called in a group calling and the first person who answered got the call. She asked for my number and promised that it would be removed by midnight tonight. We'll see. Thank you for your research and the 800 number, it was truly a Godsend!

DNC doesn't apply to any non profit organaizations. you can google the dnc list rules. also the best way to deal with them is just to politely ask them to remove you from their list. by law they have to comply with that request. don't take it personally if they call you repeatedly (before you ask them to remove you) the person calling you at any given time is not the same person who called you the last time & won't be the same one who calls you the next time. these calls usually come from a call center with possibly hundreds of people making the calls. the calls are automatically dialed, the computer does it not the person. often if you think they've hung up on you they haven't been connected to you yet. also some states are becoming a state that does not allow them to ask you to donate more than once. if you can actually get someone to talk to & your state utilizes that option they can't call you back for a long while, not sure of the time frame tho. ask your congressman to have your state not allow second requests. hope this was helpful

They keep hanging up on me. I called and asked to be taken off their call list. They said "It will take affect at midnight today." Lets hope so.

I got a call from this number tonight at 9:43 and when I picked I said hello, then a guy said hello... so waiting for him to talk I said Hello again. I couldn't tell but maybe he was spanish and didn't speak very good english (this happens a lot in my neighborhood), so I told him he had the wrong number. Then a recording came on like we were on a three way call (WTF!) so I put my phone on mute because I was now curious and wanted to know what happened. It seemed like it was just another person's vm that this guy was leaving a message for.. weird that I somehow got caught up in the middle of it all.

They just called and hung up on me without saying a word. I'm already having issues with Discovers telemarketing list and infact as I was looking this number up, got a call from them. I called ACLJ's number listed above and got a lady who stated that they number would be removed within 12-24 hours. Lets see if this works.
| Bruce 2008-05-01 19:18:06 Unknown |
They don't list a general e-mail contact address on their Web site, only for legal help, technical problems with the site, to contact their radio personalities or to book an interview. What address did you use. I don't want to talk to these people. That's why I don't answer the phone . . .

ACLJ is the American Center for Law and Justice
They are a group fighting constant legal battles, mostly against the ACLU, to help defend the rights of individuals to believe in, and express beliefs in our society.

Received calls from ACLJ (202) 652-4589 number. Try to call that number back and it says it is not in service. I looked up ACLJ and found their website, then called to ask why the heck they are calling when we are on the national do not call list. Their response: "Non Profits are exempt".
The ACLJ Toll Free Number is: 1-800-296-4529... call them and ask to be removed, but please do take up their precious work time by asking them lots of questions, speak slowly, question why they are asking questions, and they say they will remove your name in 12-24 hours. The idea I have is to take up their time and let them know I am not worth calling because I will keep calling them back over and over until I am removed and the calls stop. This is what they're doing to us under the guise of not-for-profit telemarketing harassment, and it is not Christianlike.
More about the company:
American Center for Law and Justice is a d/b/a for Christian Advocates Serving Evangelism, Inc., a tax-exempt, not-for-profit, religious corporation as defined under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code, specifically dedicated to the ideal that religious freedom and freedom of speech are inalienable, God-given rights. The Center's purpose is to educate, promulgate, conciliate, and where necessary, litigate, to ensure that those rights are protected under the law. The organization has participated in numerous cases before the Supreme Court, Federal Court of Appeals, Federal District Courts, and various state courts regarding freedom of religion and freedom of speech.

My boyfriend's family was the first to receive the call. We did not pick up because it said UNAVAILABLE. The man had a deep voice and left a message, but only said maybe 2 to 3 words and then hung up. A few hours later, I returned to my home only to find the same exact message - deep voice and abrupt - on my machine. I *69ned the number and got the 1 202 652 4589. Then, I typed it into the google search engine, and this forum came up. Atleast I know I'm not the only one!
