Seriously.  666-9040 is the number that was sent to your phone, not the number he was calling you from.  When I blocked 666-9040, now I got 666-7641 coming to me.  I hardly think anyone with the prefix 666 is a "real" phone number.

Three calls yesterday, no message left for any of them.

I have received about 8 calls the last couple of days. So today they called when I could answer. He begins to tell me he is from the U.S treasury department and they wanted to give me $8400 for being a good citizen. Lol. He told me to go get a prepaid credit card and he would call me back in 10 mins to put my money on the card. Well to shorten the story about 3 hours later he calls back and my girlfriend tells him I'm not home. (But I am) he proceeds to tell her he is my best friend. She calls his bluff on it by telling him she knows all my friends and he is no friend of mine. He starts calling her a b***h. So I get the phone and this b*****d starts cussing me so I give it back to him and he hangs up. Then he must have enjoyed the cussing he got because he called back for more. Since I've started typing this he has called back 1 more time but I didn't answer. About to block his number and suggest anyone else than can do so also. His number is 202 666 9040.

I have been receiving calls frm this # & 2 other variations of it for the past 10 days. If I don't know or recognize the # I nvr answer. If they are truly trying to get a hold of 1 of us & legit then they would leave a vm, right? Right! I loved reading some of the other comments, vry funny. I don't understand how or why these foreigners think they can scam "US" in2 falling for this crap. For some reason they think we ALL are idiots. Well surprise MF's we're NOT! It is a scam.
The government does not offer grants to individuals for personal use.
It is a scam ran by off shore con artists to trick you into sending unrecoverable money to them, you get nothing in return.

The only legitimate avenue for government grants is through www.grants.gov which is the official US government webs site for grants.

I got exactly the same call today.  Yes, an Indian accent man "Harry Fernandiz" said I am one of the 1500 people who have been randomly selected by the US Treasury Grant Department to receive $8400 grant.  Asked what the grant is for, he said for good people who does not owe any money, and can spend the money for home improvement,...etc but not gambling, drinking, or illegal stuff.  I am surprised why I did not receive an official notification in advance and asked what's his official position title there.  He said "Verification Officer" and wants to verify whether I am indeed the correct person to receive the grant.  I kept asking why I did not receive an official notification letter.  He finally got angry and said if you want to give up the grant, that's fine.  I simply replied that I have never heard anything from US Government via direct phone contact without an official letter. I then hang up the phone and check the internet.  I now realized it's a scam.

Answered and ask who they were and hung up.  Foreigner talking.

Keep calling for the wrong person and when i say it's not who they are looking for get rude, and keep calling back

I keep getting calls from this number the last couple of days, based on what i've read here, i will not even answer.
The U.S. Government does not solicit by phone. PERIOD.  I'm afraid to answer because they have my number and so if I curse them out or play games it will only make it worse.  So I thank everyone for sharing their experience and if your the nigerian or the stupid punjabi calling and you reading this, hey mf-ing scammer big middle finger to you because karma will get you. you are the worst thieving trash in the world...

I AM ON THE DO NOT CALL LIST.  HOWEVER, I CONTINUE TO RECEIVE CALLS FROM THIS NUMBER.  THEY HAVE CALLED THREE TIMES IN THE LAST TWO HOURS.  YOU HAVE TO SAY HELLO TWO TO THREE TIMES, THEN THERE IS SOMEONE TRYING TO TALK, BUT THE BACKGROUND NOISE IS TOO MUCH FOR YOU TO HEAR.

I got a couple of calls today, and I finally answered. When I know it's a scam, I like to play along, but play dumb when They ask for any personal info like bank Acc#, ect. He said the government wanted to give me $8400 for being a good person, so that I can do good things with it.  I wish it was real, but I know it's not.  The guy with a thick Indian accent asks me if I want the money in my acc, or in a card.  I say, " Give me a card."  "Which one?", he says.  "anyone would be just fine", " MasterCard, Visa, or any card you want".  This goes round and round until He is screaming into the phone, "WHAT IS IT THE CARD NUMBER A***OLE?! *click*

Have been receiving up to 5 calls/day from this number for the past 4 days.  I am on the "do not call" list.  Doesn't seem to matter.  I never pick up.

Keep getting annoying calls from 202-666-9040 and it sounds like a scam.

I've gotten several calls from them. I never answer & they don't leave a voicemail but I blocked them after today's call.  Hopefully that will help.

Have gotten at least eight calls from this number and I had answered the call one time and indeed it did say that they were calling from the US grants department I'm sure it's a scam, beware!

I saw what you people were dealing with, so I went ahead and sent him a nice 30,000 plus text message bomb. I don't think anyone will be getting calls from him for a while.

I got 9 calls from this number.  I answered first time he asked for my ex husband.  I said he doesn't live here and the heavily accented Indian (?) man said "F*** you"  I said No F*** you and don't call here anymore!  He's called 8 more times.  HELP!!!!

I didn't answer my phone because when I looked at the number, a bad feeling came over me.   Went to my computer where I found this number has been used by scammers.  Lots of scammers use 202 area code out of Washington DC and 666-9040 has been reported as a scam number.  While I'm typing this, phone rang again with call coming from same number.  Didn't answer.

A call wanting to give me a $5400. grant approved by Federal Govt. The guy has a thick accent couldn't hardly understand him. SCAM ALERT!

Yes he called me about 10 minutes ago... Said he was from the U.S. Treasury in Washington D.C., he said, "Jennifer Brown" as if indicating that was me, which it's not (been getting phone calls for her for about 6 months now... she apparently owes people money) and when I asked who Jennifer Brown was, he said it was my mom.  My Mom?  That's funny, my mom was named Helen and she's dead.  He said, "Her name was Jennifer Helen"  I said, "Really?"  He replied, "Fck You"  I replied, "Very professional" and hung up.  MORON.

Indian grant scam.    Been going on for some times.  Don't fall for it.  There's no grant.  They want you to pay an advance-fee with an untraceable Green Dot Money Pak.  Or something similar which is untraceable.
