You're essentially the only astute poster here; of COURSE it is not from a) Ted Cruz b) Obama (does he randomly call people, because its lonely at the top?) c) NSA . Your explanation is the only one with any sense at all. This is the recent trend, i.e. repeated calls but never a live human to answer, and no call-back response either. Wierd, tho, how so many appear to be repeating. The spoofed IDs may be intended to foster ill will towards some group, like MOD for March of Dimes that appeared on several calls but then changed to Anonymous, from the very same number. We have been ignoring them, screening calls, but realize the answering machine is still picking up which effectively tells them it's a real number. Now when I see a bogus or suspect call, I answer and immediately hang up. May make no difference, but who knows?

Got hang-up calls on my answer machine last two mornings. They wake me up - really annoying. Like some below, I called and got a number disconnected answer.

Some kind of spoofed scam - it is a non-working number with "Unknown" for the name.  

Got a call, picked it up and started yelling do not call, do not call, do not call and then I hung up.  A few seconds later they called back and I started the yelling again.  They haven't called back yet!  LOL

When I got the call it was Obama...So I don't think it's actually someone Conservative like Ted Cruz or Liberal like Obama

Wait I see this number coming from both Conservative and Liberal camps.  Even if you agree with the call I would not use it to "add name" to a petition.  It is especially annoying if you are conservative and are asked to have your name added to a liberal cause or in that case if you are liberal and are asked to add your name to a conservative cause.

If you get a call from an unknown number and you call the number back finding that it is disconnected IT IS A SCAM!!  Some scammer is using (readily available) software that spoofs the caller ID to the disconnected or another number.  It is usually a solicitation for some cause.  Any donation you make will go directly into somebody's pocket in the Caribbean, Nigeria or wherever.  Don't fall for this!!

I didn't answer. They left a message saying that Pres Obama needs my help to stop the evil Republicans from shutting down our national parks, and can they add my name to a petition to restore the federal government.

Now Ted Cruz is using the President Obama asking for support to finish with the government shutdown.  With the voice of the president, they ask your name and zip code and then a little donation. When you are willing to donate, they transfer you to another line and a person answering with "Repealing the Health Care Act".

202-743-6970 called me today (recorded message, untrustworthy female voice) to tell me that the Huckabee and the Republicans have a 5,000,000 strong petition and are going to deprive me of my healthcare unless I press #1 to add my name to a petition that Obama needs (he needs 10 million petitioners) to preserve my healthcare.

Received a call from this number asking me to donate to stop Republicans from blocking Obamacare.

Just received a call supposedly from the "Justice for All" pac asking me to donate to fight Republicans who want to repeal Obamacare.  After reading previous posts here, it appears that it is a "bipartisan" scam.

That's what I think . It's the NSA thank the Obama voters these government employees on the taxpayer dime have nothing to do.

I have received a call from this number every third day, always at the same time, in the evening. I refuse to answer it, or call it back. Just be aware.

My (fairly rational, I think) guess is that this is a scam rather than any sort of even quasi-legitimate PAC attempting to raise money for whatever they may say the reason is.   Any money raised likely benefits only the scammer rather than the political cause.  My advice is even if you agree with the message, don't give them money because you know nothing about the messenger -- and giving them money makes it profitable for them and others to continue with this sort of thing resulting in even more irritating nuisance calls.    

Incidentally, I've noticed that any call where the Caller ID info indicates a location (e.g.,  "Washington   DC" in this case) is a spam/scam call so I just disconnect all of them without answering.  They still usually call again and again, though.

These are calls from a conservative PAC. I get them all the time, any time I answer it is something about Obama, Taxes or Healthcare. Today it was about Obamacare.

PS. The NSA, KGB or any other intelligence agency doesn't need to call you!! They can already listen to you without making any calls.

Got this call about 15 minutes ago.  Recording said it was a petition for conservatives to help stop Obama from implementing ObamaCare and the IRS and asking for an "Immediate donation".

I missed the call so I called it back and was told it was dis-connected.
I am sure someone is up to no good.

Here's the deal and remember this cause I am only going to say this once. The call you have been receiving is not from the NSA it is merely a verification call from a lead source that is verifying that  your number is real. So they can sell your lead information for more money. As a verified lead. What they do is they get on an untraceable predictive dialer and call numbers that they have collected through a list generator.

How does the first person know it was from Ted Cruz? I got the same results as every one else...number disconnected when I called back. No message left. I am on TC's FB! Lol.
Political calls usually leave a message. It is a scam for sure!

Got it jus now n I'm in Chicago think its a dialer a list of random numbers that's what we do for collections but as for call back disconnected I can set my phone to forward calls to disconnected # sounds like that's what they did
