I'm with AT&T cell service, and you can set up anonomous text identity so that scammers must know it to get text to you.  I can't remember exactly how I did it, but it worked !  I was getting 3 or 4 robo-texts a day and I'm not on a texting plan, so it was adding up.  Look into it with your service provider.  Doesn't help with the robo-calls, tho. Nothing helps with that, except that if I get a robocall from the same number more than once, I add it to my contact list as "Pest", "Unknown" , or if those get full, "Pest 1", "Pest 2", etc, and then set the ringtone as silent.

save the unwanted phone number to contacts;  assign it a name, scroll to 'ringtone', hit 'no ring'.......so when that number calls, I see the 'contact' as Scum, 'Spam to name a  couple..........

You are absolutely right.  Nothing will change until the phone companies take this problem seriously and do something about it.  I have caller id and anonymous call rejection on my line.  Could someone explain to me how "out of area" phone calls get through????  Apparently calls with no phone numbers are not considered "anonymous" by my phone company.  You can't tell me that with all the technology we have, they can't figure out a way to block at least some of these calls.  They won't do anything until it hits them in the wallet.   Btw my phone company won't block numbers and if you want a number traced (good luck!) you have to pay extra...thanks Frontier!

This is a Robo-Call from a company trying to promote the sales of GE home alarm systems.

If you get this robo-call be sure to post a complaint on the ftc.gov website - and then call GE CORPORATE and complain to them about this type off ILLEGAL telemarketing going on by their re-sellers who are using the GE Name in their Robo-Call message!!

Hit them in the pocketbook.  GE has the power to STOP these re-seller's from using their equipment and name in association with this type of marketing by simply revoking the re-seller's permission to use the GE name and equipment in violation of the GE marketing agreement and contract.

In short - they will no longer be a licensed GE re-seller or provider.  Cut off at the knees!  Should they persist, GE could simply sue them to stop - and if they have harmed GE's reputation they could aslo be sued for damages as well.

Always follow the money.  Just like the stink on a skunk, it will always go to the source of the problem.

This Robo-Call scam is run as a referral service for small mom & pop security providers that sell GE products.

This company sells "leads" to these small businesses on a per lead basis or a subscription basis.  They also do the same for other companies who sell the other major brands of systems.

If you get transferred to one of these smaller companies as a lead, you can do what I did and put pressure on them to provide you with the contact info for their "lead generation service" provider.
That will be the company to sue.  These small businesses are getting scammed out of their money simply by paying for "leads" that they think are being legally directed their way - when in fact they are being harassed and instead of 'warm leads - ready to buy their product or service' (as described in one scammers website marketing blurb to these small business owners) they are getting pissed off people who are tired of being Robo-Called to death and venting on these people as the source.

These 'lead generation' companies are scum on the business side as well.   Many times they require that the small business sign a non-cancellable contract with them for a specific period of time - that way they will still get paid once the business owner finds out what a sham operation they really run.  To get out of the contract the business owner will have to pay for all or a large portion of the remaining contract period.

If you get these Robo-Calls it will also be well worth your time to contact GE and let them know about your experience with this sleazy marketing technique - especially since the Robo-Call Bandit mentions them BY NAME.  If enough people make a stink over this, they may squeeze this butt-boil out of existance.  They wouldn't want to risk getting a black eye on their reputation by being publicly associated with this type of scam marketing operation.  They have the resources to put and end to this by simply telling their re-sellers that they will be dropped from using GE products for using this type of 'lead generation' in their business.

Thanks to the recent responders, particularily those who provided so much detailed information in the past day or two.

There's little constructive information I can add other than the company might be "U-Change Lock" dba (doing business as) Security Solutions. However, it's very hard for the average consumer to pinpoint for sure as there are so many individuals & groups using Security Solutions as an in to consumers/"victims."
However, most are not registered by the Better Business Bureau (www.bbb.org) nor do they hold contractor registration numbers, insurance, etc. required by many states.

With the outcry over just the past week, this group will switchover to yet another telephone number (if i hasn't already) and begin anew driving us crazy once more.

Incidentially, individuals & groups such as this continue to beat the DO NOT CALL laws by repeatedly calling us and not leaving any message.  A "customer" with little stamina or great curosity will call them back on an unblocked telephone line. (Remember, now the potential customer is calling the company for information.) Then, even when the potential customer registers (by pushing #1 as directed) for the company's Do Not Call listing which "will go into affect in about 70 days," it'll never happen.  The individual/company now knows it reached a valid telephone number and someone was willing to respond to the call, so its next call to the "potential customer" will simply be from a different telephone number which the "potential customer" must again attempt to block.

There are only so many FCC and state investigators to chase down this behavior which we all know is rampant. So, please beware, try not to respond directly to these predators, and continue to report them (to forums such as this & also to governmental directorates) as you see fit.

But also rest assured that until the telephone companies are compelled to try to halt or block calls such as these, absolutely nothing will happen to change the system.

Recorded robo-call with this intro:

"Do not hang up. Congratulations. Your home has been selected for a free General Electric wireless home security system with a medical alert button from Security Solutions. For you the equipment is free and the installation is free. Your system will be monitored 24 hours a day for police, fire and medical emergencies. The truth of the matter, the FBI reports there is a property crime every 15 seconds. It is also reported that one in three people over the age of 65 will fall in any given year. Do not become a statistic. Press 1 now to find out how you can get your free security system with installation or press 2 if you want to be placed on our Do Not Call list. Thank you and congratulations."

Pressing "2" won't remove you from their call list. I pressed "1" hoping to get a live person to play with (ie., waste their time) but nobody picked up. If you play along, ask questions, waste their time, they finally realize what you're doing and take you off their call list.

Maybe they should get some of the presidents CIA agents out of the brothels in South America
and put them on finding out who is doing this. My understanding is that it is a software program
that does the calling. Who developed the software and who did they sell to?

Message started out "do not hang up"......that should be a clue that these guys are telemarketers. Pressed 2 to be placed on their do not call list, but I expect to get more calls from them since they disregarded the other do-not-call lists that both my phones are listed on with the FCC.  Pure idiots.

Seriously the only way to deal with these low-life's is to beat them at their own game.  Invest in a digitone call blocker.  You can block 80 numbers or area codes or do it globally by blocking any area code starting with a 2, 8, etc  using their wildcard symbol and that will block all area codes starting with that particular number.  For example if you want all area codes blocked starting with the number 2 all you have to program is 2# #* and that will only count as 1 block against the 80 allowed.  You can also do a global block and only allow those numbers you program  to accept  up to 60 numbers .  Your phone will only ring from your invited caller list and everything or area code you block will not ring thru to you and they are automatically hung up on by the digitone.  You will never know they have even tried to call you unless you look at the caller list history on the digitone and it will show you all the numbers that have been blocked and hung up  on. It is really worth the $97.  I was at my wits end trying to block numbers using my panasonic phone which only allowed 30 blocks and as fast as I tried to block the more numbers they started calling from plus my phone block would not allow me to just block area codes.  The digitone has really made my life at home more peaceful and I feel great just knowing that I am beating them at their own game

Today, October 30, 2012 at 12:08 pm, I got a call from 206-397-1421.  I did not answer the phone and the caller did not leave a message.  Judging from what I read that was posted from others my call was a robo call that I have received at least ten times in the past few months.  They are selling security systems.  I've reported them to the Do Not Call people in the past few months, but it doesn't seem to do any good.

Like everyone else here, I get calls all the time -- from 10am to 9pm, but especially around dinner time.

What I am about to explain has actually worked for me. I have gone down from 3-4 calls a day, to 2-3 calls every other day, and now to 1 call every once in a while.

The key is getting callerid so you can see who's calling you. If you get an out of state number or something you don't recognize, do the following:

1) DO NOT ANSWER THE PHONE. Answering and asking to be taken off their list does no good. Answering and annoying them also does no good (except for making you feel better). Answering the phone tells them that they have an in service number. They will continue to call in service numbers

2) Disconnect your answering machine when you get an unrecognized call and let the phone ring until they hang up. Therefore the phone doesn't answer and they don't think they have an in service number

These 2 simple steps are intended to convince these scam callers that your number is not in service, and it will soon be taken off their lists. Be patient, continue doing these 2 steps and you will see the number of calls dramatically drop in a couple of weeks.

Just get a Digitone call blocking system - you can Block up to 80 area codes and numbers or you can setup a global block and only allow those numbers you wish to receive a call from.  Worth the $92.00 and can order online at digitone.com
