Coldcalling is a complete and senseless WASTE of their own resources. They should focus on helping their disabled members and not harassing people over the phone, people dont like it, and doing this is going to annoy people and turn them against an otherwise good organisation that helps those with disabilities.

I read all the comments here and it saddens me how people dont understand how The Arc inc. gets your number and how some of you dont understand how the The Arcs "Call Center" Works.  If you dont want The Arc to call you simple state "Please remove my number from you calling list." or "Stop Calling me." I can understand that its annoying to get 12 calls a day from the same number.  The way a lot of dialing programs work is if no one answers or if the call is dropped then the number does not leave the list for the day they are calling for.  As for how the Arc gets your number is a little different there are many places that sell your information.  Main type i can think of is places that offer reward cards. (Freds Albertsons etc.) As for when you change your number well think about that one for a sec the phone company reuses numbers all the time more often then not you have got a number that has 3-4 people that had it before you so dont blame the Arc when you change your number.

Try asking them nicely to remove your number from the calling list the reps will do that for you.

They call me constantly! I had a different number before and the whole six years they would call 12+ times a day. I had to send them a written letter to get them to stop. I got a new number last fall and now they have my new number. Oh my god! How the f*** do they keep getting my number? I have never had any crap for them to pick up, I have never called them, but still they do this constantly. I HATE the ARC.

I have received several calls from them since moving to Idaho. They sound similar to a donation pick-up service that I used extensively in VA in preparing for our move west. Since we got rid of quite a lot (accumulated over 20 yrs.), as we unpack more boxes we are setting aside a few things that we know we'll probably also donate. However, I simply called the main number and asked them very nicely to put us on Do Not Call, but I would be sure to keep ARC in mind for future, thanks for the work they're doing, etc. They were very nice in return. Yes, it's a slight inconvenience to call them back, but it only takes a minute. Now, if they STILL continue to call, I will not be quite as nice, but I'm giving them a chance.

The ARC is one of the most annoying charities that calls. I just sent them a letter requesting to be placed on their DNC list because I have NEVER gotten a call from them when the caller was even remotely close to polite. When you answer, you get some grumpy intellectually challenged person bark at you "This is the arc. Do you have anything to leave out for us?" Um... How about "Hello, this is So-and-so calling on behalf of The ARC. We will be in your area collecting donations on Date & Time. We are especially in need of *these items* would you be able to help us? Thank you for your time."

This number has been calling us at least three times a day (from 7am to 9pm all days of the week), for over TWO YEARS now!  I'd love to know how to get off their calling list.  This needs to stop!

There is a difference between cutting someone a break and having someone say me and my family were horrible people because we had no extra to give, after they call my house between 8 am to 9 pm and no one is ever on the line. I got lucky today and had someone answer and they were rude and disrespectful. So yeah I am with all the nasty grams in this blog considering you cannot get donations if you tell someone they are horrible people. I added this number to my block list, I would never donate to them now!

I just rec'd one of these "hang up" calls as well, on my cell phone, while I was at work, and I had no idea who it was, until I Googled it.  This is the first time I've ever received a hang up from an ARC call.  It is annoying yes -- but after reading all of the nasty grams in this blog, I wanted to share our experience with the ARC and hope that people can understand what a great organization the ARC is.  We have donated to them for years, and it is incredibly handy to have their truck come to our home, vs. us having to drop it ourselves.  I also appreciate the reminder phone calls, letting me know what day their truck will be in my neighborhood.  And, I work at Hewlett Packard, and we have had a team of ARC employees working here for years and they are a delightful group of people, always cheerful, and hard working for their respective skill levels.  So cut the ARC a break - they are a great resource for employment in our community for people with disabilities who cannot work in the mainstream.  And if you have a solution to offer them for their annoying hang up calls, give them a call at 208-363-9350.

They kept calling my cell phone as well, finally just blocked their number. Calling me to only put me on hold and then hang up, is rude. Don't call if there is "no operator available", wait until there is someone available.

"...it is not intentional, there was simply no operator available at that time."

It IS intentional, as you have intentionally dialed our telephone number. If you have no operators available, then why do you call anyway? Is it just to annoy people? Is it just to interupt our dinner? Is it just to waste our time? The ARC is the most annoying, persistant, obnoxious telephone solicitors in Boise. You call multiple times a day, and at all hours, and you don't even have the courtesy of having anyone on the line. There is a term for dialing someone's telephone number, and then hanging up without identifying yourself or leaving a message. It is called harrasment. There is a law against telephone harrasment.
To be honest, your telephone solicitation practices are so annoying, so intrusive, and so harrasing that I will make it a special point to never, ever, EVER contribute anything to your organization.

They called me Friday night and this Monday afternoon.  First time left a message.  I currently have nothing to give them except large furniture and they don't accept those gifts because they only have one driver.  Um, okay??I wish they didn't have my cell phone number.

If you receive a call from The Arc with no one on the line, and you think that we hung up on you, it is not intentional, there was simply no operator available at that time. In the future, we will have a recording for our dropped calls explaining who we are and why we are calling you. For more information, please go to www.thearcinc.org or call us 208-363-9350, in the Boise, Idaho area, or 1-866-605-9373. Thank you.
