"Debt collection" scammers. They aren't legit. Don't give them info, don't give them money. Heavlily accented callers from overseas make threats against you and friends/family, which is illegal. They cannot actually send the police to your door or take you to court tomorrow. There are long drawn-out legal processes that don't involve getting arrested, and they won't be using them, because they aren't even legit.

Any money given to them does not go toward actual debts. The FTC and Attorney General know about them, but they are hard to stop, so it's up to you.

Beware.

Caller ID said "Egypt 2085579031".Got the exact same call from 646 224 9884 earlier today.  I've Googled the numbers and it's come up scam collectors.

Overseas callers with heavy accents try to extort money out of people with all manner of threats. They misrepresent themselves as law enforcement to try to get information. They often do not have actual collection accounts, just lists of possible victims/dupes. They often prey on people who used payday loan services, and the lists come from payday lenders, usually ones that went out of business.

IMPORTANT POINT: They often do not have an actual collection accounts, just a name and number. Even if you send them money, no actual debt will be settled.

Do not give out information to anyone who calls about a debt. Always insist an handling everything through the mail. NEVER, EVER, EVER, give them your bank account number or related info. There is no way to distinguish scam artists from genuine collectors so don't be a victim.

These people called earlier looking for an employee. The last call said "New Zealand", this one said "Egypt". Gotta love the creativity. Too bad they're not legit. Don't give them any info. They're pure scam. They say they're collectors but they don't have real accounts. They just steal your money.

Kinda makes it hard for real collectors, don't it?
