They called, left no message on the answering machine.  Who are they and what do they want?

The number originates from Ammon Idaho...some crooked mormon trying to scam someone is my guess

I called my sister (who lives in ID, and I live in UT) and my number showed up as this on her caller id.  I use an IP phone, so I'm wondering if that has something to do with it?  No funny business here...just my normal phone, but that's not my normal number...

Man with a thick (possibly Nigerian) accent said that he was from "the Bureau" and said something in regards to charges.  Did not say our name just started right in saying something about charges.

Got this response AFTER I told him the unit had been sold


The  price is okay with me, i would send some one for pick up.I will like to have the below info so my debtor who owes me will isuue a check payment will include shipping funds so when you receive the check you deduct your funds and send the rest to my shipper who will come for pick up.

Free Listing at Yellow Pages:  This scam targets businesses. The caller says that he is from Yellow Pages and is calling to update their records. He proceeds by asking to confirm some basic information such as owner?s name, business phone number, address, and company name. Then they start billing the victim and only then the business owner realizes that it?s not a free listing and it was not Yellow Pages directory that called.
The victims report that when they call to complain, the company plays the recorded conversation with the victim saying 'Yes' except that the caller is reading from a completely different script. The scammers replace one side of the conversation, making it sound as if the business owner agreed to a paid listing and a monthly fee.

I received a call this morning from a 208-821-3284.  This is an Idaho area code and I am running a business.  I live in Idaho.  When I answered it was dead silence.  Then some foreign man identified himself as Ryan.  He was from Yellow Pages on the internet.  I never answer their calls but this one tricked me because of the the area code.  These people are pests and if you talk to them they will sign you up for Yellow Pages. This happened to me and it has something to do with EBS or ESB telephone services which you have to cancel. They put me on it without my permission.

This is his email response to me about a house posted on craigslist:Am sincerely sorry for not getting back to you on time. I have been with my wife in the hospital, she went through a surgery and she needed my attention at the hospital. I got your mail and glad you wrote. My home is available for rent and its negotiable. I'll like to know if you have gone to view my home. I accept pets with a fee of $200 and a security deposit of $1000 which is refundable after lease term. If not you can go ahead and view my home today and get back so we can proceed with the rental application form.

I called and requested to speak with a supervisor.  Requested their address so I could send them a do not call letter.  He refused and just wanted me to give him my phone number and then he hung up on me.  These people are calling from India or something and they are very difficult to understand.

I got a call from this number today and he was saying that he was a guy from customs and wanted to know if I got the notice he sent me a few weeks ago letting me know I had a package to pick up that had recently crossed the border. I told him I got no notice. He said that for security purposes they opened the package at the border and it contained to $250,000 checks in my name. He said that they were going to be delivered to me in a security truck and I would have to show 2 forms of ID for delivery confirmation. He started telling me about how to file my taxes after cashing the checks. I stopped him and asked how he knew so much about this money if he was just the guy trying to deliver a package from customs and he said something about "they have to keep me informed of these things" and then the phone was disconnected. Weird...too bad there's a 99.9% chance it's bogus. I could really use $500,000. lol
