I recieved a call from them to night. Monday I'm calling the bank to stop payment on the check. Said I owe on debt from Global publishing for mags. Called back said name was mike miller

Same situation above.  The guy who said he was "Michael" claimed my mother owed $700+ for magazines, and they would "settle" today with a credit card payment of $300.  I asked which magazines, & he said he couldn't tell me, because that was "confidential."  I told him to put it in writing, and he read my address, so he does have that.  Claimed they are American Reader Services from New York, but phone # is Merced, CA.  He said the info that he will send will include details.  My parents had excellent credit, and I believe this call for my mother is a scam targeting elderly people.

Same story, the rather unfriendly lady repeatedly claimed I had a magazine subscription and I am confident I do not. She finally gave up and without giving her name and company phone number she simply said she was going to "turn it over to the court to collect, I let her know that that is a good idea and I would like to meet her and her company in any court" I also recorded the whole conversation and filed a complaint. The number is Merced 209-233-8131.

I forgot to mention that I also received calls like this.  The calls I got were from two different telephone numbers.  Also each time they called they gave different names of the company that they worked for.  One name they gave was Wells Fargo which is not a collection agency.

Some like this situation has been discussed already with different telephone numbers.  If I remember correctly, other people called the company and was informed that they had received many calls about this.  The company informed the people who called that there were no records of them in their system.

So I would called the company.

i got a call today with them saying i owed 600 for magazine subscriptions, but when i said i never subscribed, they said is this.....  and they proceeded to say my first name but a totally differerent last name.  I told them that was not my last name, and i never had that name and they said they would take it off their list  Lets hope they don't phone me again

Its not a collection agency, its people trying to scam.  they are using a Magic Jack and I have traced their actual IP address not the shadow one they were using, and notification has been sent to RCMP because they are scamming across borders and state lines

Got a call telling me that they were a collection agency & asked how I wanted to pay the $900 I owe for magazine subscrptions before they sent it to credit bereau. Told them that I want the bill in writing. They hung up on me.

Got a call saying the same message that I owed 800 dollars in magazines

I keep getting calls nobody talks I call back no answer and voicemail is full.  I sent a text telling them to stop or else I am calling the cops and no reply of anysort and I keep getting the calls.

Got a call in Reno from the same number.  Asked for their contact and they hung up on me.  This happened on 10/12.  Confirmed my name as I do have a mag subscription but I'm paid ahead.  They claimed 899.00, that's a lot of magazine.   Said the bill was American Readers Services.

I got the same exact call on 10/8/13, down to every detail Omallee shared. This must be a scamming service. First of all, collections agents are not as "polite" as the woman who called me. Second, the fact that Omallee got the same esact call, same details, tells me this is a script they are following.

Were you able to speak to a person?  I said they identified their company as American Readers Services, but they may have said they are collecting on that company's behalf.  I can not recall.  I also filed a complaint with the BBB.  I filed it against American Readers Services, though.  That company does not have a location in California, so this "collection agency" may have a different name that they did not provide to me.  It seems like a complete scam. I never order any magazine subscriptions, which is what they said I owe for, unpaid magazine subscriptions.  The BBB said that American Readers must respond to my complaint by 10/23/13.  I will update this then.

I get a call on both home phone line and my cell phone. I can't make them stop and you can't leave a message because the box is full. I turned number in to better business bureau, and equafax

The first time I tried to answer, there was silence then it disconnected. I thought it was a telemarketing call, because they are usually on dialers, so it takes a few moments before they cime on the line. Apparently, it's a collection company for subscription magazines. I was told I owe $600.00 in magazine subscriptions. First, if I want a magazine, I buy it off the rack. I explained that I never had any magazine subscription and how can it cost that much anyway.  The woman was nice, she said its for a subscription for 3 years.  She confirmed my name and address and said I was not the first today where there was an error, but she will research with the post office before closing this that no magazine subscriptions were sent to my address. I asked what is the name of the magazine? She said the company doesn't tell them the name of the magazine, which  I found strange. She said she would call back after her research to let me know the case is closed. Now I feel like this was some scam and am worried that I confirmed my name and address. I didntvgivevany other info, so hopefully this company is legit.
