Prank Call
Call from "out of area" - person introduced himself as Kevin from Creative Solutions Online in response to the usual malware error messages from my computer.  He had an Indian accent.  I thought I'd play along for awhile.  I asked him his company, phone number, and from where he was calling.  He repeated the company, gave the number 209-965-7943 and stated Korea.  He continued on and then asked me to type the Windows-R button (which puts one into administrator mode for a program).  I asked him what it would do, he faltered, I asked him again, and then he responded that he was going to F my wife and hung up.  BTW, there is a real Creative Solutions Online in Clearwater, FL.

Think this might be a scam?  ;-)

Got the same call the other day, from the name number--although this time the caller wasn't "Steve" but "Nikolai Brown" (with an Indian accent) claiming he was calling from the "Tech Department of Windows Operating Systems"... Also wanted me to give him access to my computer.

Prank Call
I figured this was a scam so checked out the phone# given.  I love Google.  Thank you to those who post these and allow others to check such things out,  My guys name was Jeff Foster.  Pretty sure a guy with an Indian accent does not go by this name.  Be smart - be cautious - especially when people are calling you out of the blue.

My story is similar but with a new twist. The number that showed up on my caller ID was 559-306-9701.
A man with a thick East Indian accent calling himself ROGER told me he worked for Microsoft and he could see that there was malicious malware and serious viruses on my computer. I know all about this SCAM so I played along. I asked him which computer had the problem. He asked how many I had. I said that he should know, he could see my computer. He replied that he just wanted to make sure he was 'fixing' the right one. He told me to click the Windows logo on my keyboard, then the control key and cmd, and then to enter the following. At this point, I faked another incoming phone call and told him I had to take it because I had a gravely ill family member. He said it would only take a moment, but I told him my family was more important, and I promised to call him back. And that's when he gave me this phone number: 209-306-9701. Of course I'm not going to call Roger back, but I will be calling the FCAC.

Jane Doe: You replied to Dave: "...you should have actually taken some time to learn how to spell word properly -doesn't make you look very creditable. Check out the dictionary some time - it can be a good read!??

I understand that this site is not about bashing other people, but perhaps you should you?re your own advice and check out the dictionary some time. ?Creditable? means ?worthy of commercial credit,? so you?ve told Jane that it doesn?t make her look very worthy of commercial credit. I think what you meant to say is that it didn?t make her look very credible. You are right about one thing; the dictionary can be a good read.

Now let?s get back to the scammers.

I received an unsolicited phone call from 209-965-7943 today .   WARNING:   A VERY smooth talker and his associates (almost all with East Indian/English accents) know MANY clever ways to overcome listener skepticism and get access to your time to discuss Microsoft Windows XP software security issues.  Ultimately he/they were selling a software maintenance agreement, but they may also be using the phone time to access computer information.     I am still investigating what damage they might have done to my computer in the process.    When I asked for a number to call after I got more information, I was told to call 209-965-7943 and to ask for Dennis Smith.  Yah, sure, you betcha!

She is agreeing that it is a scam.

You cannot tell from the error log if there is a virus.

Supposedly this company claims to have this ability.

Hi Dave,
I'm, not very clear if you are agreeing with the scammers or if you are agreeing with all the people with common sense about this topic.  Did you really graduate from CDI college? I'm sure they mentioned and you read much about "technitions"? This is a commonly used word/term in the field of Information Technology - you should have actually taken some time to learn how to spell word properly -doesn't make you look very creditable. Check out the dictionary some time - it can be a good read!

Microsoft will *never* call you about any problem on your PC. If you need Microsoft tech support, you have to call Microsoft https://www.microsoft.com/worldwide/phone/contact.aspx?country=Canada , Microsoft will never call you. Your caller is a scammer. Do not let him remote into your PC. Blast his ears off with a whistle, air horn or smoke alarm.

You folks at Online PC Doctor should be totally ashamed of yourselves. Checked with a tech friend, and she told me all about this scam. Thankfully, I didn't go beyond the event viewer with your representative. When I asked for his name and a phone number to call him back after I showed the info to my tech friend, he gave me the name of "Jeff Foster" and what he claimed was a California phone number... ARE YOU KIDDING ME??? I live in Canada too... but I'll be damned if I ever met a man (with an Indian accent) with a total white bread name such as "Jeff Foster". LOL!!!

Yep. Scareware SCAM!!! Look for yourself if you don't believe me.This is  an exerpt from the Microsoft Online Privacy and Safety page regarding online phishing scams:

http://www.microsoft.com/security/online-privacy/phishing-scams.aspx#Victim

"Microsoft does not make unsolicited phone calls to help you fix your computer

In this scam cybercriminals call you and claim to be from Microsoft Tech Support. They offer to help solve your computer problems. Once the crooks have gained your trust, they attempt to steal from you and damage your computer with malicious software including viruses and spyware.

Although law enforcement can trace phone numbers, perpetrators often use pay phones, disposable cellular phones, or stolen cellular phone numbers. It's better to avoid being conned rather than try to repair the damage afterwards.

Treat all unsolicited phone calls with skepticism. Do not provide any personal information.
If you receive an unsolicited call from someone claiming to be from Microsoft Tech Support, hang up. We do not make these kinds of calls."

If you think you might be a victim of fraud, you can report it. For more information, see the actual page.

I am a graduate of CDI College Vancouver back when I was Control Data Institute. I was fully aware of the callers bogus intent when I he asked me to look at the error log on my computer and then claimed that they were viruses. The error log records computer errors and nothing more. This information can then be used by technitions and developers and engineers to provide better products in future computers and associated software.

THIS IS A SCAM. Read about the your-PC-is-infected scam here http://news.softpedia.com/news/Cold-Call-Tech ... on-150170.shtml They lie about your PC sending out malware, error messages, etc., and say your PC is about to crash to frighten you into giving them remote control of your PC to fix the nonexistent problem (don't let them!). If they ask you to open the systems tab in eventvwr.msc to see all the errors, these harmless errors are *normal* for any Windows PC (mine has several and it runs just fine). Don't let them take control of your PC because they can download *real* malware, possibly a malware suite, that can spam, steal bank logins and personal info, etc. If they've remoted into your PC, the safest fix is to re-format your drive and re-install your OS assuming you have clean backups of your data. You can try scanning with various antivirus software but scanning may not find all the malware. If you don't know how, get help from friends or pay a local shop to do it. THIS IS A SCAM.

This is to inform all concern that the SCAM reported earlier is not at all SCAM...., it is a tech  support provided by a legitimate company.
