I purchased the same phone, but brought it from HSN.com for $89.00. Works great for blocking!

Got a call just a little while ago form the above New York number. When I went to answer it, it hung up. Lots of these companies OR whoever they are just are so bothersome when they don't even answer when you pick up the phone. The last several months are crazy with these type of calls. and I don't know anyone in New York City either. How would they know when they call that anyone is a senior?
SueW 2014-06-17 19:51:13 Unknown
The only way to "block" these calls is with a call blocker. I bought
a Panasonic call blocker for exactly this reason. Being on the
national do-not-call list (DNC List) does *NOT* stop scammers.
The only people who abide by that list are legitimate merchants
who choose to do so. Scammers ignore the DNC list -- or don't
even look at it to begin with! I hate these telemarketers, too, and
I bought the call-blocker -- it has made a WORLD of difference!

If these morons are calling from NYC, how do they expect to respond to a "medic alert" in the Okefenoke Swamp where I live? Are they gonna send me an alligator EMT or maybe a feral hog? Heck, even the sheriff's deputies have to stop here and ask directions

Who is this scam that calls at 1AM, and wont answer? Can Verison shut them down?
Larry 2014-06-14 18:34:22 Telemarketer
This idiot called during the day and said that a medical professional had recommended me for a medical alert. I demanded to know "Which medical professional had given him my name?" He was defensive and finally hung up on me. He must have retained my phone number, because he called again just after midnight waking me out of a sound sleep. So, don't talk to these people, just hang up and best of all, get a call blocker like several have recommended. I won't debate with any more of these scum bags in the future. Lesson learned.

Politicians don't generally make scam calls. These calls are made by criminals. Usually located outside the US. They ignore all laws. Most politicians are no better or no worse than ordinary citizens. In any event, the US can't enforce any laws outside the US.

These telescum called me the other day. I did not answer. If you have elderly people in your family, please talk to them about getting Caller ID, and also try to convince them to never pick up the phone when it is an unknown number.
Although these telescum are as dumb as a head of lettuce, they can still scam some confused elderly people out of their money. Urge caution to your loved ones.
I will continue to report them to the FTC, and congress, but they just keep calling. They are truly sociopaths and diseased maggots. It's a shame that our country has come to this.

Same scam call again and again from MedAlert. The way to fix this annoying problem of scam-callers and telemarketers is to vote AGAINST every politician who is currently in office. Why? Because we already have laws to protect us from these scammers, and the incompetent career politicians who are currently in office have done nothing to enforce the laws we sent them to enforce. You can make a difference on Primary and General Election Days by voting against EVERY politician in office, by firing them all, and by replacing them with new blood. If you do not fire these political morons, we will continue to receive these abusive and annoying illegal scam calls from the maggots known as telemarketers, a product of the career politicians who aren't doing the jobs we hired them to do. Career politicians have become famous in their own minds and have forgotten they work for us to enforce the laws we had them pass on our behalf. Eric Cantor was a perfect example of a politician who lost sight of his REAL job, to represent the American people in his Congressional district. Vote to send new blood to Washington so they will work for American citizens. Please be a true American and vote against ALL incumbents!

I received a pre-recorded message for a free medical alert system. But I don't believe it because nothing is free; packaging cost money and fuel cost money.
paladin 2014-06-12 14:49:41 Unknown
I have the same system and it works great. I too receive way too many scam calls. I average about 8-10 per day. With this system I never even know they have called. I think I have about 65 blocked numbers and the list keeps growing. It is well worth the $90 I paid for it.

It's calls like this that make me want to get rid of my home phone! Seriously they called at 2:30 AM to try to sell me life insurance, I'm 25 years old what kinda company thinks calling a 25 year old at 2:30AM waking them up because they think it could be an emergency and then has a COMPUTER voice try to sell them life insurance! Seriously what bright marketing firm thought that ANYONE would actually answer and decide to sign up! I tried to call back to let them know what fools they were but the number was "not in service"! Now I can't go back to sleep and I have to get up in 3 hours! This company should be fined and banned from telemarketing all together!
Nathan 2014-06-12 05:39:09 Unknown
I just got this call at 1:37 am! This is insane to be woken up by a robo caller trying to scam seniors.
Jim 2014-06-11 17:11:13 Telemarketer
They never give up. Seems do not call is a government joke. Some of these scammers have been using the same numbers for years,

Thankfully they hung up just as my coworker picked up which gave me a chance to find them online and find out they are bogus b.s. artists trying to sell crap. 212 662 1393

This number belongs to telemarketer for senior Medical Alert.
I pressed one (as if interested in ordering) gave only my telephone number and requested sales agent "JUAN" to remove the it from their call list. He said a physician had referred the number plus I had been prequalified. I then told "JUAN" his offered was wonderful and to please call my friends @ 212-662-1393 and share my good fortune with them.

Good advice! HOWEVER, there are ways to reduce, and even STOP most telemarketing and even debt collection calls.
I listened to the recording over my software playing the SIT and disconnected announcement. Same old song & dance about my name being referred by a medical professional for their trash medical alert systems and offering $1000 in garbage coupons of some sort. This is a particularly nasty recorded call since it illegally captures your line and will not disconnect until the message is played out.
I use Phone Tray (used to be freeware but they are now marketing their end product online). With caller ID service and a "smart modem" my junk, annoying, harrassing, and down right illegal incoming calls have been reduced to a couple (as in 2 or so) per week. There are other freeware & shareware programs out there, but PhoneTray Pro by TraySoft works great. I block entire area codes (such as the 212 area code since I know no one there). You can block calls by the callder iD name (like New York, Annoucement (this one used to drive me crazy), Townhall, etc.). You can also block by suspicious number layouts such as phone numbers ending in 0000.
DO block and report these calls. The FCC does work but only when a significant number of complaints are received. They are not you personal lawyer but a government agency that will go after them if possible. Check out some of the latest cases on their website!

The ONLY purpose in the medic alert for seniors scammers's calls to us is, to get our credit card numbers, so they can cheat us!
Bub17 2014-06-06 04:32:52 Unknown
More likely the scammers have gone through the White Pages which lists names with age ranges. Anyone listed 65+ is targeted for medic alerts, walk-in tubs, diabetics supplies, etc. because this age group is more prone to needing or using these services. Some in this group are also more trusting or less able to make appropriate choices.
It's unfortunate that these dirtbags target the most vulnerable.
Pi$$ed! 2014-06-05 22:45:56 Unknown
Unfortunately, here is how it works: You have a hospital stay, or home health care event, or even a doctor visit. The provider opens your patient record on an infected computer, and BOOM! Here comes the calls!
Bub17 2014-06-05 20:57:26 Telemarketer
The last few months these medic alert scams have been coming from NYC area codes as well as Long Island and upstate New York. But most have been from California. Oakland to be more precise. Many are probably spoofed numbers so you don't know where they originated. My Oakland calls appear to have originated from Peru.
The bottom line is we don't answer callers we don't know. That keeps us safe. Friends and family call our cells. Let the telemarketers waste their time on the landline. We only keep it to get the triple play. Half the times it's unplugged so we're not bother by the never ending ringing scams.
