Extortion Scam Related to Delinquent Payday Loans
Washington, D.C.
December 07, 2010 FBI National Press Office
(202) 324-3691
The Internet Crime Complaint Center has received many complaints from victims of payday loan telephone collection scams. Callers claim the victim is delinquent in a payday loan and must repay the loan to avoid legal consequences. The callers purport to be representatives of the FBI, Federal Legislative Department, various law firms, or other legitimate-sounding agencies. They claim to be collecting debts for companies such as United Cash Advance, U.S. Cash Advance, U.S. Cash Net, and other Internet check-cashing services.
According to complaints received from the public, the callers have accurate data about victims, including Social Security numbers, dates of birth, addresses, employer information, bank account numbers, and the names and telephone numbers of relatives and friends. How the fraudsters obtained the personal information varies, but in some cases victims have reported they completed online applications for other loans or credit cards before the calls started.
The fraudsters relentlessly call the victim?s home, cell phone, and place of employment. They refuse to provide any details about the alleged payday loans and become abusive when questioned. The callers have threatened victims with legal actions, arrests, and, in some cases, physical violence if they do not pay. In many cases, the callers harass victims? relatives, friends, and employers.

Don't tell them anything truthful, but get as much information as possible and turn them in to the FTC.

I just recvd a call from Peter and he advised he was coming to get me. I have been getting these calls off and on for years and they are just a scam. I have one loan and have made the payments so I am not worried but it just sucks that there are people out there that prey on the ones that have to take out this kind of loan. I spoke with my lawyer and she advised to just ignore the calls to which I will do.

I called the actual Austin Dove Law after they called me. A woman answered and stated she is the ONLY employee that works for him. I recommend that you call her and let her know that this man is calling you also. "Peter" told me to google it when I asked for the address and I did.

Peter at Austin Dove Law Corp. They called me at work. They could not give me an answer when I asked them my address. They only thing I was told is, "Why am I asking him this question". I was told that a sherriff was coming to my house to remove me from my home. They wanted me to make a payment right away. I advised them I had to call my bank before I would, they did not like it. I also advised them I had all my receipts showing the payments. I did call my bank and my payments have all been received on time and processed and that they would contact me personally if there was a problem.
This so called law firm is out of Los Angelos California, phone # 213.437.6630
I hope this helps!

They call me from this number at least 15 times a day. I usually just ignore it, but this time I answered and they said they were looking for my husband and that the guys name was David and he was an officer of the law. So i told him this is not my husbands name and to quit calling me. So i called it back and the same guy answers with some company name and i asked what it was and he said it was a paralegal company and he was a paralegal. Keep in mind two minutes prior he was an officer. Scamming people.

ALWAYS go online and plug in numbers from calls like this. I've been getting them for years. They are preying on people who get scared and send them money that you will never get back. Sorry they got you.

This person, using the name David Wilson, is leaving messages on my work phone and my cell, threatening me with some legal action about what, I have no idea.

Your money is gone.
You should anticipate that they will call you again and again for more money.
I would give your Police a call, but, unfortunately, they will tell you that you have been scammed.
