Call came at exactly 9 pm. Left no message. The line was just silent. This creepy nonsense went on for about twenty seconds; then I pulled the phone jack out; thus ending the call. These strange people have called several times at about 8:30 or 8:45 pm. This is strange and creepy, as they just silently listen. My message limit is about 50 seconds: They wait, silently, the whole time. From now on, I will pull the phone jack before three rings and leave it out for, at least, one hour. These creepy late night calls are, well, creepy.

Advised I was selected to participate in a survey if I was currently on a cell phone.  Said he was with the CDC and that I would receive a $10 gift card for participation.  So he ran his speach and then asked if I was currently talking on a cell phone.  Told him not interested and hung up.

And why do they need to know if I am on a cell phone?  They have called me 3 times.

Carol, exactly which taxpayers agreed to fund this invasion of privacy via the CDC?  They are now calling and asking how many children live in a home and their status on vaccines AND the name of their pediatrician.  They claim they are excluded from not calling citizens on the do not call list because they are a government agency.  They called at 8:30 at night and if there were children in the home they would be getting tucked into bed at this hour.  No I won't ever participate in one of these ridiculous surveys.  How dare they waste money on this 'research'.  Put that money into our schools where it is needed.  The whole thing is a waste of time and money.  These are not government employees calling.  These are subcontractors at call centers which may not respect the privacy of the health information that they gather.  What kind of background check is done to ensure that the callers don't abuse the information?  No.  I won't participate in these shenanigans.

They keep calling every day or every other day. These people do not have the decency or common sense to realize that not everyone works the normal daytime hours. Even if they are legitimately doing a survey from the CDC, I see no reason why they have the right to contact me. I am on the no call list, but must be it really means nothing in the end. I even filed a complaint with the FCC when this all started. It would seem if they try a number a couple of times they or the computer would get a clue and move on to someone else who is not on the no call list.

This number has shown on my land line a few times in the early evening. No message left. I've not made a call to verify the caller or purpose for the call originally though suspected solicitors. I appreciate finding the two messages above; thanks Steve and Eric. I'll dismiss the call from this point forward.

CDC call wanting to survey me. Asked them how long the survey would take. Finally got it out of them that it would take "no longer than 15 minutes." Told them I didn't have the 15 minutes to spare.

Must be part of some sort of jobs program. Use taxpayers' money to hire people to harass taxpayers.

I have been called several times by male and females representing the CDC.  I have asked them not to call.  Told them I am not going to give them any information...please do not call.  Asked them to put their supervisors on the phone to not avail.  Told them to quit calling and they still are calling.  Caller ID shows 'Private Caller" No call back numbers. The fellow I got today tried to argue with me and I finally hung up on him.  This nonsense needs to stop!

I agree random my A$$...you call and call and call...worst thing is when I decided to answer and tell you to stop calling, there is no one there. In Oregon we have laws, and with a valid phone numberm I can file charges, you get fined, I get paid.....

STOP CALLING

If you want opinions why not pay people locally that want to participate?

Received this call today but before receiving the call, I received a letter in the USPS mail stating that I would be getting a call of this nature. I chose to accept the call and the survey took about 10 minutes. I quit smoking over 2 1/2 years ago and feel much better for doing that. This survey reminded me of the great decision I made with the help of the Delaware Quit Line and the American Cancer Society. I do not feel there was anything wrong with taking this short survey. Hopefully it will help other smokers kick the habit.I am glad I did.

Survey
They keep calling me also and it is getting very annoying and they need to stop. Even if this is legitimate, I see no reason why they should be calling someone on the no call list, which I am on. This list seems to have very little benefit when it comes to this crap. I filed a complaint with the FCC when this all started, but it appears to have done no good. What legal right do they have to call me for that matter. I guess just more government intrusion and the current administration shredding the Constitution daily. They need to move on to someone not on the No Call List. If it really is a survey on tobacco, well I don't use it any form, never have, and never intend to. However, with all the scams out there you can never be careful enough so I'm better off to ignore this as I see others have done.

The call is for the National Adult Tobacco Survey (NATS) from CDC?s Office on Smoking and Health, National Center for Chronic Disease Prevention and Health Promotion (NCCDPHP).

The NATS will be a one-time, stratified, random-digit dialed telephone survey of non-institutionalized adults 18 years of age and older.

In order to yield results that are representative and comparable at both national and state levels, information will be collected from approximately 1,863 land-line telephone users in each state and the District of Columbia. In addition, a total of approximately 3,000 interviews will be conducted from a national sample of cell phone users to include the growing population of households that rely exclusively on cell phones.

Announcement was published in the Federal Register.

Received an unwanted call today at 12:00 from the above caller ID number.  I didn't answer as I don't know anyone in California.  I googled the number and found that they are a phishing company.  I am registered with the "do not call" list as well.

They called at work claiming to be from the CDC and did I want to take a survey regarding the H1N1 vaccine.  I told them that the number was a business.
"Is this number xxx-xxx-xxxx?" "Yes."
"Is this a cell phone?" "No, it's a business."
"Is this a home phone or residence?" "NO, THIS IS A BUSINESS."
They then got the message and after a polite goodbye, rang off.

213 is the Los Angeles area code... I thought the CDC was in Atlanta.
