Called several times this week. Claimed they wanted to buy a car or something.

It is a scam to get you to go to a website full of advertisements. If you posted something on craigslist about a car for sale this is how they get your number

I posted on craigslist.com and recycler.com and the calls started.  I didn't bother to answer since I don't know anyone there.

I live in Tn... Apparently they call people who have things listed on Craig's List.

I too just received a call from this number, I answered the phone and nobody was on the other line.

They use software called screenscrapping where they extract information form any website and put them in their lead database for a phone call. So they basically have a web bot that steals information from other websites to call  you to sell their services.  I agree SCUM

Yeah, I just got a call from them because we have a classic car for sale on Craigslist.  But they probably just have people looking up ads everywhere and then they program the phone numbers from the ads into their dialing machine.  What scum!   I can't believe how sleazy telemarketing has become.

I have a vehicle listed on cars.com.  I received a call from this number.  No voice on other end of phone, I hung up.  From reading this and other sites sounds like a scam (and illegal).

I received a call from (214) 540-8973 regarding my vehicle posted for sale.  It's a computer generated call.  Believe it is a scam.  Please watch out.

I posted a car on Craig's List, I said "it's NOT ok to contact this poster with services or other commercial interests" but they tried anyway. WTF

They called me as I have a car on craigslist.  I was golfing so I did not answer - this information was helpful.  I was 10 over par after 11 holes when they called.  I made 7 consecutive pars after they called me.

Can you provide me with additional information about your comment that you got a check from caroffer.com, but were not able to cash it.

I have been contacted by caroffer.com. Some research and I've discovered that caroffer.com it is not a business, but is actually a "sideline" run by the Pep Boys chain. And Pep Boys has an amazing "rap sheet". I've never seen negative customer comments like these before.

214) 540-8973 caller id indicated the caller was from Dallas. In the meanwhile I also got an email from them. www.caroffer.com allied with PepBoys, according to them. They made an offer with a check that the car seller is supposed to get when you arrive at the Pep Boys but you cannot cash the check.....

I received a phone call from these people too.  I forget the name of the "company" but they wanted to help me sell my car... I posted my car for sale on Autotrader, Craigslist, and Vehix.  Although, I think it is the Autotrader ad that caused the problem because none of the others had my phone number....

I've recieved several calls from Caroffer 214-540-8973, 214-453-3000, they offer you virtually NOTHING for your car, any local used car dealer will offer more for your car, this is another reason I refuse to shop at PepBoys.

Its not a scam... caroffer is a legit company that offers to purchase your car outright... similar to carmax but without trying to sell you another car.  i'm not sure all the ways they get the numbers, but my bf got a call from them and he had his car listed in autotrader, so i would assume that's where they get them.  you can speak to them and have your number removed from their database if you don't wish to have them call you.

I've received several calls from them about my time running out to extend my warranty. They've called from 213-710-8113, 214-540-8973, unknown #, private # and another number that I don't recall. I have a car on AutoTrader also, so I guess that's how they got my number.
