I receive at least 2 phone calls every day from this number.  I ignore it...if it is a faux American Express, I have already made payment arranges with the real one.  IF this number were really affiliated with AmEx, they should know this.

Received a call from this number this morning.  The rep claimed that my husband had a past due account with American Express.  Neither of us have EVER had an account with Amex.  I told them that they were calling the wrong person.  They said "it shows as a collection on his credit report", which I disputed and told them that they were wrong because I looked at it myself.  She asked for my addresss in order to "remove his name from the list"  I didn't give that to her.  I know this is a scam - the real American Express would not be calling someone who was never a customer of theirs in the first place!  .

I've been getting calls from this number non-stop the last 5 days. I never answer calls from numbers I don't know. They call my cell while I'm at work and when I don't answer they immediately call my direct work phone number. I have no idea how they got that since I don't list that in my profiles anywhere. This is obviously a scam. I also get calls from (336) 393-7010.

Got two calls today. The first one either got cut off or hung up when I asked who was calling. The next call I let go to voice mail and got no message. I googled the number and got this page.

I see that this number has a history. I can't believe that the authorites have not gotten to this person.

Thanks to all of you who posted before me. If I'll get a call again I'll try to mess with this person and get some info to pass on to the cops.

I got a call from this number. The person claimed to be from American Express and that they needed to relay urgent info about my American Express account. I don't have an American Express account. American Express would know that.

Just got called by this number.  This happened once before, I called Amex at the number on the card.  They said yes, the call was from them, it was a mistake.  Then they apologized profusely and said their system wasn't showing recent payments.  I had made a payment just hours before the due date expired.  I assume it's the same deal, they don't see the payment has been made.  Rather annoying.

Call was intended for somebody else.
Script: "This is American Express calling about a very important business matter. Your attention to this matter is urgently needed by the end of the day. Please call us at 800-230-1284. And please have your American Express account number available when you call. We can be reached 24 hours a day. Thank you."

Caller ID was 215.873.3443, I called this number and got voice mail of Troy Johnson of TW Telecom.

I then contacted American Express from the number on back of my card to alert them of this call.

This is an automated American Express courtesy call number for AMEX cardholders that either owe a past due amount or have some suspicious activity being done on their card. It is a legitimate number, I just called the 1-800 number on the back of my card and the customer service rep just verified it!

Received a call from "American Express", and they said it was an urgent call and I needed to respond by the end of the day. I was out when the call came yesterday but they just called back. They said they were from American Express and that I needed to make a payment from my checking account now in order to keep my account open. Called the number on the back of my card and verified that my account was current and no payment was needed. WARNING!! THIS IS NOT AMERICAN EXPRESS but seems to be a scam to get money from your checking accoun over the phone. BE VERY CAREFULL AND IGNORE CALLS FROM THESE FOLKS !!!

SCAM ALERT!!
RE: Call from 215-873-3443 asking to return call to 800-678-0738 claiming to be American Express describing an urgent matter, then stating to have your account number ready.
Called AMEX from the number provided on the back of my card re: the number and message left on my answering machine. AMEX has NO RECORD of this number 800-678-0738. My caller ID listed the in bound number as "215-873-3443 Pennsylvan Call", I have blocked call rejection on my phone so it requires the number the call is dialed from to get through.
Call the American Express number listed on your American Express card!! Do NOT call this number with any information.

This is a phishing scam and is NOT from American Express. Check their phone numbers on their (American Express) website and the back of your AMEX credit card and you will see that it is different. The prerecorded message is always the same:

"THIS IS AMERICAN EXPRESS CALLING ABOUT A VERY IMPORTANT BUSINESS MATTER, YOUR ATTENTION TO THIS MATTER IS URGENTLY NEEDED BY THE END OF THE DAY, PLEASE CALL US AT 1-800-678-0738, AND PLEASE HAVE YOUR AMERICAN EXPRESS ACCOUNT AVAILABLE WHEN YOU CALL, WE CAN BE REACHED 24 HOURS A DAY, THANK YOU."

Some of the phone numbers he/they call(s) from are the following:

(215) 873-3443
(404) 697-3127
(718) 564-3261
(954) 308-5595
(954) 503-1800

These phone numbers seem to be from cell phones and there are many people reporting this scam on various consumer complaint websites. American Express has verified that it is NOT them. (Call American Express using the number on the back of your card and see for yourself.)

This/these scammer(s) is/are relentless and will call 2 to 3 times a week, and usually 3 times during the day & evening, for months at a time.

IF YOU RECEIVE HIS/THEIR CALL, MAKE NOTE OF IT (time called, cell number used), AND REPORT IT TO THE FOLLOWING AUTHORITIES:

http://www.ftc.gov/ftc/cmplanding.shtm

http://esupport.fcc.gov/complaints.htm

https://www.donotcall.gov/complaint/complaintcheck.aspx

Received this call today and they left a voicemail.  They asked for "Manuel Diego" and proceeded to leave a message claiming to be an urgent Amerian Express issue that needs to be resolved today and that I needed to call 1800-678-0738 immediately. (that's not my name, and I don't have an AMEX). After some investigation regarding this and other calls, I have discovered that these calls are somehow related to old credit card issues that were resolved over 13 years ago.  Scammers are getting hold of old credit records and preying on fears of consumers. If you're worried, call your cc # that's on your bill, get a free credit report twice a year and pay your bills on time.  (I have no idea how they got my cell phone number!)

This number is NOT American Express.  They left a message on my machine claiming to be, and that I only had about $100 left on my $10,000 credit line.  That's a load of bs.  Beware of these callers, it's totally a scam.
