I got a call from these "people" and fell for it at first until they told me the payment plan.  Fortunately I gave them my debit card number and not my bank account number.  I sent an email to the email provided to tell them I did not want their services within an hour.  I also called my bank and cancelled my debit card before they charged it anything.  I reported the company to my bank and they already knew all about it.  I have a military bank so they do pretty good at helping you out of fraud.
I also called and talked to ed and he refused to cancel my account.  I have the email saved and starred in my email so that I have the proof that I cancelled within the 72 hours allotted.
My bank also flagged my account to look for these "people"

Man I need a job like this I can be an a***ole to beat the band they just caught me on an off day. .

I just got the same call.  Said I signed up for 5 magazines at 20 payments of $69.90 per month and I failed to cancel within the 7-10 day grace period. (Is it 7?  Or is it 10?)  They said that they manage my magazine subsciptions and other companies may have called me about my subscriptions, but they are a scam, so beware! They claim that about a year ago I signed up for this.  "What magazines do you show I receive?" I asked.  "Sir, we just have codes. We wiped out your list in our database. But we are calling to help you out and lower your payments to $59.90."  I exclaimed, "For 20 payments?  No way! I'm not paying a $1000 for 5 magazines!"  Angie replied, "Sir, it's too late.  You already committed. All we need to do is confirm your expiration date on your Discover card.  It begins with 6011."  I asked, "Whose name do you show as being on that card?"  She said, "Well yours, of course."  I said, "ANgie, I don't have a Discover card.  And by the way, all Discover cards begin with 6011."  She called me obnoxious and uncordial and I would have to deal with another department.  Not.  I hung up.  So I googld this number and bam, there it is.  I knew it.

I received a call from a guy identifying himself as Joe at this number. As others reported, they had all my basic info but could not tell me what magazines they send to me. ( I get a lot of magazines.)  I figured it was a scam, so I played along a while.  The first guy was very cordial and cleverly obtained information. For instance he would ask which credit card companies I use and prefer, Visa, MC, AmEx or Discover.  If you reply Visa, this comes back later when he transfers you to the manager.  When that transfer occurred, I got a woman who identified herself as Angie. She started out being nice, and said that for removing the AUTOMATIC 60 MONTH RENEWAL FOR $59.95 I would need to verify my Visa card beginning with a 4.  (All visas begin with a 4.)  She wanted my expiration date and security code. This leads me to believe that they may have my cc #, but not the right exp and code.   When I refused this information she became very belligerent and tried to work me to give up the info.  I decided enough playing along was enough and just set the phone down and walked away.  Later I found she was gone. Imagine that.  They claim their company is called READERS SERVICE and that they are responsible for all the magazines I receive when publishers send them to me.   Beware, THIS IS A SCAM.  WATCH YOUR CREDIT CARD STATEMENTS CAREFULLY.

This happened to me, they did have all my information - I had to cancel my bank card and get another issued. It started with 4 or 5 small (under 5.00) charges to strange companies so i called my bank and they said it was fraudulant and stopped my card immediatley. Still after 2 years they continue to call and when i say something to them i get hung up on. BEWARE!

Same thing happened today from 239-257-2049 Readers Inc. Also about the magazine service. They said that they've been getting a lot of calls from their readers saying that a lot of people have been calling them about their magazine subscriptions and they were not real companies, etc.

I spoke to a woman named Samantha for a long time explaining that I do not have any outstanding magazine invoices and she kept repeatedly telling me that when I signed up for the magazine that I had selected automatic renewal and that I have 60 months of service left and will be charged $69.90 and that they would reduce it to $59.90 and cancel the automatic renewal and I would be "free and clear".

I was then transferred to her supervisor that was going to give me a "security code" in case any "bad" people called about my magazines. She said if I have caller ID I could see that they are verified by AT&T as a safe company. When she asked me to verify my credit card number I flat out said I would not give it to her. She said that she already had it on file and just needed me to verify it in groups of four. Again I refused and she hung up.

Filing a complaint now!

To Angel Harris
We keep getting magazines that we didn't order.  The caller always asks for my husband and when I try to get more info they hang up.  We didn't order any magazines.  And the ones they are sending are not even anything we would read to start with.  They told him that the magazines were being billed to his Visa card, which he doesn't even have.  I have looked at my card as I thought perhaps when we signed up for some entertainment coupons, (that was a joke) that maybe there was a rider for magazines.  Not so.  They want us to pay for them which we have refused to do so.  I am going to file a complaint with the Attorney General in Illinois against this company.

This company keeps calling my husband telling him that he is subscribed to a bunch of magazines that we never signed up for & don't get. When he told them to stop calling, the guy started getting loud & said he would not stop calling unless my husband went through the entire service & paid $3.99 (which would entail giving his credit card info - a big NO-NO). This is a scam to get bank/credit card info.

This is Gulf Coast Readers...they get you hooked on 4 magazines for 4 year subscriptions at $49.95 a month for 16 months.  What they dont tell you is that they are going to send you approximately 10 magazines a month and expect you to pay for all of them.  I am sending them all of my magazines and remind them that they lied to me in the beginning.  I canceled my membership with in the 10 days and am still getting daily phone calls.

In checking my caller ID log, I noticed that similar numbers have called in the last 2 days and have not left messages.  When I tried to call the numbers, they forward to a similarly generic voicemail box.  Perhaps it's the same company/scam?

Received this call today...caller identified herself as being from "The Publishers," about magazines I receive at my address.  She had my name & address correct, but I did not tell her that. When I asked how she got my name & number as I'm on the Do Not Call registry, she said she got it because they send me magazines.   I asked which magazines & she could not answer, that she wasn't in that department and she just had "billing codes."  I told her I'd previously researched her type of call on the internet and that the information I found suggested it was not a legitimate business.  She immediately hung up.  When I tried to call the number back, I got a generic voicemail that 239-257-2049 was not available.  THIS COMPANY/CALLER DOES NOT APPEAR LEGITIMATE.
