Are you serious?  They called my home phone but because I don't have an answering machine could not leave a message.  Did they call you from the number in question?

I got a call from 240-206-8441 as well and the person had a heavy accent with lots of noise in the background. What got me nervous was the fact that he asked for me directly. The caller also kept asking me to hurry up and choose if I wanted the money on a Visa/Master card or in my account.

I received a call this morning on my work phone. I don't answer numbers where the area code is not familiar to me. It just sends up red flags. Isn't there a language abuse on the telephone? There should be a one place fits all to send telephone numbers, like this one, so that it can be reported. I would think that it's a landline and not a cellphone number. They could do a simple trace to pinpoint where these idiots are and bingo! They woud be able to SWAT them, confiscate all of their computers. It makes me wonder how many innocent folks fell to their prey.

Thank you for providing this service.  I used it to look up this number: 240-206-8441, as well as the "supervisor" they wanted me to call at 206-445-0531.
Same deal as most of you (except for the m---f---).  Background noise, heavy (foreign) accent, $7000 grant from the US government.  Guy was a bit pushy, but didn't swear.  So I took down the super's name (Jack Neilson) and left it sit.  Guess too long, 'cause he called back to tell me that Jack was now available and I should call him.  Thank you very much...
And that's when I confirmed my suspicions here.
Simple rule:  If it sounds too good to be true, it usually is!

Heavily accented man named "Richard" called my cell but asked for my husband.  Said he was from "the government" (on Saturday? hah!) and offered a grant if my husband would answer some questions.  My husband said it sounded off but the guy wouldn't let him off the line.  We finally just said "goodbye" and hung up.

I don't believe they are picking up off of credit card applications.  We started receiving these calls this week.  I'm listed in the phone book and other places, so it is easy to find my number.  I agree that the caller's (female) grasp of English was limited.  From the sound of the voice she sounded African.  Makes me wonder if the Nigerian email scam has taken on a new twist.

From the notes I've seen online about this group they offer either $7,000 or $70,000 dollar grants.

I tried to call back several times.  I receive an automated message that the phone number is not in service.

Also got the message offer in 7000. It is a scam
The person to whom I talked identified himself as a government employee, he said that I was selected for the grand because I paid my taxes on time and I am not in any default with the government. He said to that in order to verify my identity I had to answer some questions to verify my identity. I requested then to send me the info via mail, then the guy hang up

A guy called and said his name was Henry Fletcher with a very thick accent which was the first red flag for me he said he was with the govt and wanted to give me a $7000 grant. He said to go to western union and claim my money and gave me a confirmation number and everything. He called me 7times in a row after I hung up in his face.

I got a call from this number: (240) 206-8441
MD, USA, 2 days ago. The guy said I was selected for a govt. grant of 70,000 dollars. Yeah right. So, I called his bluff and asked him to not call me again. I could hear something in his voice as if it was being altered electronically and some background noise. I cut the call and immediately he called back and kept trying to convince me that he was the real deal but in a loud, aggressive way. He said he could prove it by giving his ID number ( oh, sure an ID number and I can trust that fraudster, ha!). He kept interrupting me and I said that if he was a real rep he would have learn't the first rule while talking to a customer, i.e, do not interrupt a customer mid conversation. I got mad after that and threatened to google this mumber and file a police complaint. Then I cut the call. Today morning I got the call from the same number but I did not pick up. I think I know how they get our telephone numbers. I applied for a brand new credit card the day before I got the first call. I notice that these calls start after such instances. I guess the credit card company is releasing information to telemarketers by "default" until we say no and then these fraudsters somehow get a hold of some numbers. This whole thing stinks and is deep. Whoever is reading this- please remember if you have made some applications that involve a credit check. Be careful, be safe and good luck.

Answered the call. Man with heavy accent offered $7,000.00 grant from IRS. I played along to try to get more details in order to report him. He asked "Do you know what the IRS is?" I answered "Yes, do you?" and he responded INTERNATIONAL revenue service. I told him that he was incorrect and hung up on him. He called back but I din't answer.
