I did some investigation this morning (02-13-2012) regarding the 248-936-1040 problem caller and tracked the service company to MCI WorldCom.  

I called and got a "Secialty Group" number that is supposed to address the fact that it is one of their paying customers that is doing this!  They are supposed to open at 10 AM EST amd their direct number is:  800-333-0309  I think we should all call them everytime we get a call from this clown!

Did not pick up the call for the same reason as Larry gave.  If you do not know who is calling, Don't pick up!  If they know you, they will leave a message!  I called the number back this morning and got a busy signal every time.

What bothers me with all of this nonsense, is why has nothing been done to stop it?

The phone companies obviously don't care because they are getting paid!!!  There in lies the problem!  It's ultimatly on the Phone Companies to be more responsible!!!!!

people,people,people.. if you don t know the number don t answer , let these losers call and call if you want to have some fun pick up the phone and hang up  if it s a real call about something they will leave a message , screw these guys

I received a call from 248-9361040 asking for my mother who is in hospice.  I told them she wasn't available.  Then someone started saying don't lie to me.  You quit lying to me.  This is ridiculous.  Find a job!  If it continues I will contact the police.

248-936-1040 Called

It is an automated messagefrom a Scott Snow asking for people to cal back this number!!!! Who knows what the new scam is they are doing!!!  Watch OUT!!

I've received several calls from work and this # shows up on my caller ID.  It must be some sort of phone routing / exchange thing.

I keep getting calls from 248 930 0303..you call, you get some foreign voice and voice mail..you hang on the line until you are tired of waiting...Can these people bother someone else? Thanks.

Person called me from that number once she talked the second time never said a words claims to be from a public phone.  I dont want anyone calling me from this number again

If virus can infict computer, this anonymous calls have inficted our phones. Not just my phone, it's all over widespread criminal act. I still don't understand why our law enforcement people don't get involved in this. BTW, I do remember a while back there were calls claiming to originate from some police association that tried to solicit some donation. We have too many asking for money over the phone. You never know which is real which is fake.

248-936-1040 is just one of the numbers keeps calling. Other numbers include same area code 936-1070, 936-1090 and numberous other anonymous and restricted calls, on a non-stop night and day, day and night calling. I reported to local police and told its criminal investigation unit of this, they said I should change the phone company or change my number, period. It is a criminal act, but the authority did not want to get involved to stop it.

I received a telephone call from 248 936 1040 about 10 minutes ago and someone was definately there because all I heard was heavy breathing...kind of scary.

got a call from this number, I answerd and nobody answered me back, I will call the police the next time this number call and bother me.

I have been getting calls from this # 248-936-1040 and everytime I answer it, nobody is talking on the other end. Somebody is listening I am sure of that. When you call it back either you get a busy signal or a message that the number is not in service. Everyone beware of this number.

I get phone calls from this number two to three times a day. I don't pick up because it is listed as "unavailable". They never leave a message and when I try to return the call, the line is always busy. It seems pretty suspicious to me. If it's important enough to call, most people will leave a message. I would just like the authorities to do something about it.

The Indian Guy told me to hold on while he go and get some other person He got on the phone I didn't really understand anything he was try to say to me. I asked him to hold on while I make a call to the number that was on my caller ID that number was busy. The 248-936-1040. I asked him what was the call about he told me that he had my SS# which he called out. I put out alert to all three credit reporters. Then he asked me what was I doing while I was typing in his info to see where the call was coming from then he hung the phone up. This stuff needs to stop!!!!!!!! let  oh the name of the company to was called Federal Crime Investing Department. I think the Government need to know that they are using them to collect money. This number area code is a Oakland County zip code 1-248 Right!!!!!!

Received a call for this number (248-936-1040) on April 18, 2010. Caller said my daughter came down his street and kicked his dog. I said what? And he said it again. When I said what street do you live on, he screamed and yelled and told me to shut up. I said what street do you live on. And while he was screaming and yelling for me to shut up, I hung up on him. Must of been a scam to get me to do something.

Received a call from this number (248-936-1040) on March 9, 2010. Caller pretended to by my Grandson. I said  the voice didn't sound right. Caller said he had a bad cold. Then said he had to hang up to "put more money in the pay phone". He then called back a few minutes later. I said he sounded really different and said I'd call him on his cell phone (assuming he was my grandson). He then hung up. I called my real grandson. He never called. He wasn't sick. He sounded OK.  I don't know what the scam was but it was a very suspicious call.

Calls froms 3am to 9am on a weekly basis. Sometimes more. No one says anything.

OMG! I searched high and low to figure otut who called me from this number. I am so glad this webiste is out there. I kept calling back over and over again thinking it was an employer calling me back. Your right, when you call back you get a busy signal always.

The call is from a newspaper company in Southfield Michigan, I belive she said The Eccentric. I answer a ad placed on craiglist for a FREE office computer mat, and soon after I recieved the call.  I plan on calling Channel 2,4,7 to report the scam. and place as many ad's telling people not to buy the paper or answer ads on craiglist under the FREE section. I hope everyone at the Southfield Newspaper "loses the jobs" for doing such stupid things.  iMaverick
