Yes ARC are dishonest so please dont be afraid to stand up to them or they wont stop. Your 1st step is to send them a registered letter telling them to cease all calls pertaining to you and you suggest resolving this issue in court. By law that cant call you after that and they wont go to court 99.9% of the time. Understand the statute on limitations too in ontario its 2 years meaning they cant sue

Called me about a Rogers bill I paid in full over 2yrs ago. An account Rogers closed, because I paid, company's don't close accounts if there is money owing.Said they represent Rogers so I call Rogers and they told me no money owing and ARC does not represent them. Now I have ARC on fraud as well as harassment. ARC are liars and scammers learn ur rights and fight them in court they'll back down.

I got a call saying that they were calling from the City of Toronto for a parking ticket from 1991- Why would Ontario hire a BC company to do collections? and doesn't the MInistry collect on every account when you go to renew your plates and license? HELP!!

This number called immediately after I got a call from 450-999-0739 that I blocked the day before with Google Voice. Google Voice plays a message that the number dialed is no longer in service. Only the 'good' number are forwarded to another number.

I just put all their numbers on call block......what a bunch of morons...they remind me of scammers from Craigslist.
The last time I actually answered the phone and asked them what they wanted...they refused to tell me until I provided them with personal info...which of course I didn't. I simply told the bi*** to get a real job and hung up.......and call block was put on her number.  I'm prepared now to record them the next time they call...if they can get through.

They can call until you send them a cease communications letter. After they receive the letter and call, you can sue them.

Collection agencys can still report collection inquiries on peoples bueros however long after debt, the fact they are even looking at your beuro even if the debts no reporting hurts you. Creditors are just as weary of people that deal with us as you are. Also there are lots of debt buying companys that will by stat bar debt and resassign, its up to you to fix this but good luck as they are impossible to get ahold of.

This company has a reputation for being very aggressive and will definitely "BREAK THE LAW" in order to collect. The company name is ARC "Accounts Recover Corporation". They have offices across Canada. Just like most recover companies they buy bad debt from lending institutions and then try to collect what ever they can because they buy the debt at a much lower cost then what the original borrower owed. So if someone owes a bank 10,000 and goes broke, ARC will buy it for 40% or lower of original cost and try to collect the 10,000 plus interest. So if you are in a position of wanting to pay you can definitely settle for less!!!

Bad ratings do come off your record after 6 years. ARC will threaten to put back on your credit report and by law they are not allowed to if you don't confirm verbally or written that you owe them money. They try to trick you into confirming on the phone and are very aggressive and  rude. I actually had them curse at me saying "you F@#king A***ole" and much more when I didn't fall into their trap. You have to know your rights as a Canadian and yes really good people make mistakes and fall into unfortunate situations. There are always new ways to start fresh and don't let ARC or any other collection agency tell you differently and of course some people on here, because I guarantee you ARC is looking at this and writing their own comments in here ;)

Now it has been 11 years since my debt has been off my record and paid back directly to the institutions I owed them to, but ARC still calls???? They did threaten to put back on my record recently and I did check and guess what, they did!!!???? I did contact a lawyer and I am in the process of suing this company for a lot of money, the papers are being drawn up as I type this. My lawyer says I have a very good case!!  They have no right in ruing lives, they just want to scam people into paying them. 99% of these collections they are trying to collect are out dated. They can't collect!!!!

So if you find yourself in this situation with ARC, don't answer there questions and you can have them served papers from a lawyer if you have the means to do so.  Know your rights! I do, as I have done a lot of research on this matter.

Not true at all. Negative credit is only allowed to stay on your file for 6 years from the date of the last transaction. That means the date that you made your last payment. They have 2 years from the date of the last transaction to file a lawsuit in small claims court against you. 99% of the time they don't sue people because they know that if the person has a ton of debt they would most likely go bankrupt and then the collection company is out of pocket for the legal expenses. Once your account goes to collections the original company has written it off. In your case I've found that if you are dealing with the TD bank and defaulted on a loan with them even 15 years ago they keep everything on file and can refuse a loan even if your credit file is clean. Most banks are doing this now as they know some people just wait until their credit file is clean and rack up credit again.

This company had someone call me at my work and she tried to intimidate me by saying it was ARC national investigations office Victoria. ( +1 (250) 361-0677 ) so long story short I give her money to get her off my case and she calls my work AGAIN for a confirmation number when she couldn't reach me at home after two tries! It's illegal for any collector to call you at work when they have a valid number to reach you at home. Here's a tip she gave me though if you pay your creditors even $5.00 they cant touch you!! I'm all for paying money I owe I just don't have it right now.

Actually, it's very likely that you DON'T owe it to the original creditor, as often delinquent accounts are sold to outfits like ARC for cents on the dollar. Your original creditor settles with them to clear the debt off their books and ARC now tries to collect the full amount.

The difference between the amount of the original debt and the amount ARC paid to purchase your debt is ARC's gross margin, so they do have some flexibility in negotiating a settlement with you, as long as they make $OMETHING on the transaction.
