Don't answer if you see 'overseas' on your caller ID but if you do answer wait until they answer and blow really hard into their ear phones with a whistle.

I picked up once and a man with an Indian accent started talking about windows software, so I yelled NO NO NO into the phone and hung up. Now that number calls once or twice a day and if I pick up it is silence and a beep at the end and it hangs up. Annoying but that is life in with scammers I guess.

Received several calls from that number and name.  Did not answer.  They did not leave a Voice mail.  The following day, they called again and I answered.  A man with an East Indian accent said my windows operating system had been hacked and his IT department informed him to call me.  I laughed and told him I had a Mac.  He stuttered and said it is also affecting Macs too.  I told him to put it in writing and email me before I hung up.

him: (with an Indian accent)  This is the Windows technical support department.
me: Windows does not have a technical support department.
him: Are you sure?
me: Yes, Windows is an operating system produced by Microsoft.
him: --- hung up ---

The last time I had one of these, I kept the guy going for 45 minutes before he gave up.
This article explains the scam pretty well:

Called twice today. Caller ID said Sewell Vincent. I did not pick up the first time, but second time I did. Caller had Indian accent.  I asked who was calling, did not respond but immediately launched into a spiel about "Windows Software."  I told him not to call again and hung up.

Had a call from 253-397-4654, ID name Vincent Sewell.  I recognized the number from two or three previous calls, and did not answer.  The next day I called the number twice on my cell phone, which does not give my ID, and (1st) the number was "disconnected", (2nd) there was a "problem with the phone line" and "call back later".  At least I didn't have to listen to his ridiculous nonsense!!

Answered, some male with an accent that sounds like it was from the mid east somewhere stating something about my computer is wrong.  I asked what company he was from and he stated it was a computer repair service.  I said there is nothing wrong with my computer and I immediately hung up.  I called the number back and would not go through saying the number has been disconnected.  As usual, it's a scam.

What you describe is the natural result of at least a decade and a half of Microsoft error messages that accused the user of having done something terribly wrong with Windows.  You might remember some of my favorites, like "General Protection Fault."  I always wondered how Mr. Fault got to be a General, because everything he said was lame and unhelpful.

But the best one was "ILLEGAL OPERATION: Division by Zero."  First of all, I don't like to be accused of illegal things being done to computers.  But worse, *I* divided by zero?!?  *I* did no such thing.  The people who wrote the operating system of my computer did that!

In the end, it didn't matter.  The Indian Windows Call Center Operator wound up sending me to jail for 25 milliseconds or until the next reboot for that unlawful act.

Prank Call
Called telling me he was from Windows and computer was reporting problems.  When I asked who he worked for, he said it was none of my business.   Non of my business?  I stated.   Then hesaid he was from the police.  The Indian police I asked him and he said no no your police.  Then it got weird, he started talking in a low voice saying I was in trouble.  Told him f@ck off and bring me an order of tandoori chicken and he hung up.  Called id said Vincent Sewell.
