Write our Congress and Senate. We need CRIMINAL penalties against the companies that are profiting from these calls. Follow the money, slap them in jail, no one left to outsource to overseas boiler rooms, problem solved.
Since they are operating across borders it should become a federal felony and should be handled by the FBI under the RICO Act.

How it works:

http://onthespotblog.com/tag/cardholder-services/

We need CRIMINAL penalties against the companies that are profiting from these calls. Follow the money, slap them in jail, no one left to outsource to overseas boiler rooms, problem solved.
Since they are operating across borders it should become a federal felony and should be handled by the FBI under the RICO Act.

These calls are coming from call centers in Costa Rica and India and they are using spoofed (false)
numbers, which in itself is illegal. They do cold calling for or sell the leads to numerous companies in
this country and they know that what they are doing is illegal. Tomorrow this same number may be selling Cruises, Timeshares or Security Systems but if you follow the money it usually ends up in the hands of an American LLC. Keep complaining to the FTC and FCC, and start bugging our politicians to pass laws to make it punishable in criminal court instead of handing out fines that they don't pay. Another course of action is to contact phone companies to find out why they won't block spoofed numbers. With today's technology that should be an easy thing to do, unless they are somehow profiting from the use of their systems.

Robocalls are illegal unless you have given them prior permission in writing (not worded into some small
print contract from a 3rd party) and are absolutely illegal to a cell phone.  The Telephone Consumer
Protection Act permits individuals who have received certain unlawful telemarketing, such as junk faxes
or telemarketing calls, to sue the violator in state courts where they may be awarded up to $1500 for
each violation.

People should continually file complaints with their Attorney Generals office and also file with:
http://www.fcc.gov/complaints
https://www.ftccomplaintassistant.gov
If enough people keep complaining then maybe something will get done.

The FTC has already taken action against some of them however they just pay a small fine and are back at the same scam the next day:

I will say it again, we need CRIMINAL penalties against the companies that are profiting from these
calls. Follow the money, slap them in jail, no one left to outsource to overseas boiler rooms, problem
solved. Since they are operating across borders it should become a federal felony and should be handled by the FBI under the RICO Act.

Caller asked for me by name.  When I asked who was calling he gave a name quickly and said it was a courtesy call about a 2003 F150.  I don't own one and told him so.  He hung up.  Have also received calls from this # on home and cell mentioning some of the same things above...there is no problem with my account but it's important that I call them immediately...lower my interest rate on debt...

Hi this is Rachel from cardholder services... etc.  This is a cell phone linked through a switchboard by professional scam artist. There is no stopping them. If you block the number they just buy another number. I just feel sorry for anyone who falls for their scam. I get calls from a bunch of different numbers land line or cell -- don't let it make you crazy.  If you have a cell - don't answer if it is going to cost you money or make you crazy.

This is a scam. You can call your phone service provider to find out how to trace it and also how to block it. Also, I saved this contact on my cell phone under Scam Artist and set the ringtone to No Ring, so I won't be interrupted by these evil people anymore.

These calls are coming from criminals -- NOT telemarketers and NOT from any reputable company.

Criminals purchase Tracfones with prepaid minutes. They are untraceable and this is how they ?hide.?

They are trying to get YOUR personal information and/or credit card information to steal your identity or money.

THIS IS WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW and DO:

If you search the number and find the carrier, call and complain to the carrier. They can contact the DO NOT CALL REGISTRY at a higher tier and get a quicker response.

The DO NOT CALL REGISTRY can block the number so the scammers will lose their pre-paid minutes. These are NOT legitimate companies.

NEVER answer calls from a phone number that you do not recognize, especially if it is out-of-state.

NEVER call the number back - they will log your number as one to keep calling.

If you do, accidentally, answer such a call, NEVER, NEVER give out any personal information, including your account numbers. If it is a live person, say "I will report you." and hang up.

File complaints with the DO NOT CALL REGISTRY here:
https://www.donotcall.gov/

File complaints with the FEDERAL Communications Commission here:
http://esupport.fcc.gov/complaints.htm

Help these agencies block their telephones (so they lose their prepaid minutes), and let everyone know.  Save this email and keep telling everyone.

Good People can stop the criminals !!

Dennis,

You make a good point and have the experience to support your opinion. Like you, I've worked with White Collar/Fraud crimes for many years and can tell you that these calls are made over internet-based (VOIP) lines that use untracable, spoofed (using someone else's number without their knowledge), or calls that originate outside the U.S. The technology is easily available to make the caller ID display ANY number the caller wants it to show.

The FTC and DOJ have investigated these calls for a couple of years, issued thousands of inquiry letters to telephone carriers that respond they have no account subscriber information (think of pre-paid wireless throw-away phones), and issued subpoenas that are ignored by out of the country companies that know they are not subject to U.S. laws.

There is no question that these calls are frustrating and illegal, but it still won't stop calls that are routed through foreign countries that have no legal obligation to provide information. Advances with worldwide technology are a double edged sword---making e-mails to people halfway around the world possible, but also making this type of internet-based call through foreign countries very easy to accomplish.

Also, don't wait for telephone carriers to take any voluntary action since they are making millions of dollars from this type of call. The CEO of one major telephone service provider made it very clear---his responsibility is to the stockholders of the company and not the public.

It's very frustrating for law enforcement, but today's technology is far ahead of current laws.

I do NOT Answer Unknown Numbers.  Once I have Googled and found  that it is a scam call, I then SAVE that exact number in my cell phone book with "NO - " in front of the number.  ( EXAMPLE:  NO - 281 217-0241 )  I put it as the 'Name' in my cell phone book so that the next time they call I will see my "NO" message and NOT answer it.  This has worked well for me.  It also saves me time by my not having to Google it AGAIN each time they call back.  I know that I have ALREADY researched that particular number.    I hope this idea helps everyone.  PASS IT ON!!!!              GOOD LUCK, from ProGrammar

Mike Anderson seems to be a recurring Voice Mail name.... associated with 303-217-1074 as well as 281-217-0241.  I did not answer this call, and added it to my "DO NOT ANSWER" contact in my phone so I don't pick up.

got a call on my cell phone from supposed card member service recording. I asked to speak to a supervisor and the n**** said she was the only one I could speak too. I told her I wanted a supervisor. She said no and hung up.  This crap has to stop. I am sick of all this fraud., Maybe if they would stop putting all the court info with peoples info on the internet fraud would stop or at least slow down. Gee our government is the one again causing all the problems.
