Received a call today from this #. Checked caller ID didn't recognize #. They called back almost immediately. Out of curiousness I decided to pick up. The man on the phone said "Hello Grandma?" I said " Uh...you got the wrong #" He said "No I don't". I said "Yeah you do...I'm not your grandma" and hung up. Friggen Creep!

My grandma and cousin both just called me.  My grandma was freaking out.  Someone called her on Wednesday saying they were me and needed $5000 for bail 'cause they were in an accident and going to jail.  Said they were in California for a high school friend's wedding.  Friend's name was Katie.  Katie bought a round trip ticket to come out for the wedding.  This person told my grandma the voice sounded funny due to some injury and cuts to the mouth from the accident.

They called my mother, and said, "Hi grandma!" My mom told them that she was calling the police, and they hung up.

My grandmother just called me saying the same thing! I'm sitting at my computer too.... NOT in Canada. Thank God she had the sense to call me first!

Yup.  My Grandmother just called me saying I called her from jail in Hudson Ontario, Canada from phone number 289-481-1099 talking funny because I had broken my nose or something.. and that I needed $3000.00.  She was bit frantic, and I couldn't understand her whole story, but I assured her I was sitting at my desk in front of my computer, NOT in Canada, and not going to a wedding.  Then I sent her a link to this web site.  It was pretty nuts, they even called her "Grammy" what all our family's grand / great-grand children call her.  They were talking about lawyers in Spain and stuff too.  Crazy business.

This person claimed to be my mom's grandson and scammed almost $15,000 out of her by saying he had gone to a wedding in Canada and got into an accident and was in jail.  Then asked for small amounts of $2 or $3,000 in the next 4 days, saying he needed bail money, money for lawyers, hospital bills, etc., and to send it via Western Union to Madrid, Spain, where his lawyers were.  All the time, saying "I'm so embarrassed to have to ask...you're the only one I can turn to....please don't say anything to anybody!  I love you and appreciate you so much, I promised to pay you back as soon as I get home...I promise I'll you call more often."  There is probably no recourse, but I hope they find these people and string them up by their gonads!!

Scam artists.  Will randomly call numbers and try to act like they are a relative to have someone wire them money.
