I got a call from Mark Anderson of Esolving, he was saying I might have some computer problem, and was asked to switch on my pc, I must say he was very polite and a nice gentleman, he found out the problems in my computer, as it was running very slow for a month, and I was unable to login to internet,
he then connected my computer to their technical department and solved my pc problem, I was so happy, but he then asked to pay $26 for this service, which I could have paid, but I was very skeptic to provide my credit card details over the telephone. So I asked him to give me sometime. I was very pleased by their service and Mark's pleasing voice but I was not confident to make an online payment, ven though it was a secure website.

Very late response to this...but in case anyone googles and comes across this site.

The number you are being called from is a scam organisation working out of India. The use basic social engineering skills to illicit information from you before carrying out "support work" on your PC.

The websites they generally direct you to are:

joinmein.com and
onlinepccare.com

These are both fronts for receiving information on you and in particular credit card details to pay for their services.

While the remote into your machine they begin to download a variety of applications, probably none of which they actually explain to you. The purpose of which is also extremely dubious.

The callers are generally very polite and will mention that they are working on BEHALF of Microsoft. This is nonsense. Microsoft will NOT call you looking for information or to tell you that you are having performance issues - how would they know.

If you have been caught out by these people - don't beat yourself up about it, it's happened to a number of people already. First things first;

- Take your PC offline
- Phone your credit card company to report the fraud and cancel the transaction
- Change any online banking passwords you may have via a phone call to your bank/credit card company

- Contact a friend of family member who can assist in doing a restore back to a previous save point (if you're running windows XP, vista or 7)

I'm passing this information on as hopefully a warning to others, and for some quick steps that can be taken to mitigate the problem.

I hope it helps.

Cheers,
Kev.

Just received a call from this number. Asking if I have a computer. I asked for the number the guy was calling from  (he had a foreign accent) before I would speak to him. After a long pause, he gave me this number. I said I was going to make a complaint as I'm registered with the TPS (UK) and he promptly put the phone down.
I see there is a website for a company called Online PC care using this number, head offfice in India. So I guess the UK Telephone preference service can't stop this call.

Had a cold call from this number ... from Anna Brown of the Software Maintenance Deptpartment ... I googled as much information as I could and came to this website on the page concerning this other number ... 02033189416.  The details described by other people there were so similar ... strong Indian accent, surprising name with accent, talking about the seriousness of virus detected on my computer/ my area (although had to ask if I had a computer!!) and wanted me to turn it on the check.  She knew my postcode and name.  I refused all but took the above number to pass on this information to my husband.  Interestingly ... Anna Brown wanted me to call back to talk to her and gave me her shift times ... despite the apparent urgency.  I suspect commision is part of her contract!!  I have to add that she was extremely polite if a little pushy!
