The PGCFF group is a scam

I got a call from this same number stating that they are the PGCFF and I was kinda worried if I should leave a check or not. They said that I can leave it in an envelope at the the door and they will pick it up since I will not be home during the day...for some reason it sounds suspicious to me

Hi there.  I know that the caller is legitimate, but does anyone else know whether it is a "donation bank" telemarketer firm calling, or if it's actually the fire department folks?  Since the call is local, I'm guessing that it's the fire department, but want to confirm.  I try not to donate via firms who aren't the donee, because then the donee doesn't receive my entire contribution.  I've read that up to HALF of what I donate might go to the telemarketing firm, so I usually say no to them, and then if we're in a financial position where we can donate (which we definitely are NOT these days, except for tithing to my church), I call the actual donee and find out their address, and I send the donation right to them so that they'll receive all of it.  

So, to summarize this LONG message, if you know that 301-579-4599 is definitely the PGC fire department calling (and NOT a telemarketer/telefundraiser), please let me know that.  Thanks!

It is the Prince George's county fire department collecting for their annual funds drive. I have donated for the last several years and today they called but didn't leave a message. I called the number back and it was promptly answered. This is a reputable tax deductible contribution, so not a scam call. I have the receipt to prove it. Hope this helps.

This keeps showing up on my caller id.  Anyone else getting this or know who it is?
