Law Offices of Gary Green has been associated in a class-action lawsuit against Santander Consumer, USA alleging, among other things, that Santander has violated the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act and the Telephone Consumer Protection Act. The lawsuit also claims that Santander breached its contracts with consumers in the manner by which it charged fees. If you believe you have been subjected to abusive or illegal actions by Santander or any other collection agency or bank, please contact us.

I can't even put into words how much I hate this company. I was happy with CITI and once they sold to these crooks, all my problems started. Let's see...the constant  daily multiple, phone calls...oh and let's not forget when they claimed that I was 3 months behind (even tho I was not) and I had to borrow $1500 to  send to them in order to stop a repo; yet a repo guy showed up at my house at 3am  (luckily my car is garaged and he couldn't get it). I had a  5 year loan with CITI and now I am going on 7 years and I STILL owe more than the car is worth! I'll be paying on this thing forever thanks to all of their bogus fees. I lost my job in January and called to see if  I could get a reduction in payments, which they did. They reduced them by $30. Whoohoo thanks so much, morons. Now they have been calling me like crazy the past 2 weeks (of course they never leave a message) and when I called today just to see what the deal was, it's because I am behind $40 (I had to send a payment short last month but sent more this month, obviously didn't help) 8 -10 phone calls a day for $40? I think I would sell my body on the streets if I could get the money to pay these b*****ds off.

For those who have smart phones there's a free app called Mr. Number that you can get to block calls. You have the option of sending calls right to voicemail or hanging up on them. It  keeps a log of all blocked calls so you can still see how many times a number is calling you, along with the dates. Santandar has a zillion different numbers they call from but at this point I think I have blocked them all for now. I'm sure they will have more numbers but I will just keep blocking.

Santander is professional? Not in my experience. They call 3-4 times a day for weeks and even though you tell them nothing has changed, you still have to sit on the phone with them for 15 minutes to tell them the same information over and over AND OVER again.

yes i still live at the same address
yes i still have the same phone number
no you are not allowed to contact any other family members
no i am still not working
no i cannot catch up on payments at this time
no i have no plans to make extra payments since I cannot do so at this time
yes i can make my normal monthly payment

Why do they have to call more than once every few weeks?

Santander really is a good company to work with. My husband and I have fallen into some bad and rough times and they have worked with us all the way. They really don't want the car. they would rather see you keep the car. they would like to help you keep your car and work out an arrangement so you CAN keep your car.....
If you EVER have any problems with the company you demand them to expedite the problem to the Presidents Office and they will help you out.
We have had to deal with that situation and it does help.
When ever you need help. There is ALWAYS the Presidents office to work with.
Hope this info helps. Thanks

Santander will ask customers for "references" if making payment arrangements, so someone have them you & your phone # as a reference.  I assume it is so they can try to track people.

Telemarketer
Here's the answer to all our prayers.  I found this on a site I posted a telemarketer's number at.  I tried it and it WORKS!  I put the tones at the beginning of my phone  greeting about three months ago and in the last three weeks have had "ZERO" calls.  Whover posted that "THANK YOU, THANKI YOU".   Here's what I found:

Telemarketers almost exclusively use autodialers to make their calls.  One out of a thousand will have live reps doing the dialing.  When these dialers connect (you  answer the phone) they first listen for any tones generated.  If no tones are detected they then transfer the call to one of the reps in a call center.  If the autodialer  hears the 3 beeps from dialing a "DISCONNECTED" number, the number that was just dialed is automatically "REMOVED" from their list.  Below is a link that has  this tone plus the verbal message.  You DO NOT need the verbal message.  Download or copy the "DISCONNECTED" MP3 or WAV file to your desktop.  Create or  change the greeting you have when someone calls you and you're not available.  At the VERY BEGINNING of your message place the 3 tones (NOT THE VOICE  MESSAGE) then continue with your usual or normal greeting.  The autodialer will hear the tones and BINGO, your number will be removed since they think it's a  disconnected number.  DONE.  In a few weeks you will be removed from all or most of the lists.  Of course you may have to explain the tones to the callers you DO  want to speak to but that's a small tradeoff.  Pass this info on to anyone you know that gets junk calls or even help post this on these websites.  If you continue  getting calls after reading this, it's your "OWN" fault!  END JUNK CALLS.

Yes, they maybe calling so much but they're actually good company. I have my car loan with them, I'm a single mom and I got laid off. I couldn't pay my car with my unemployment they repoed it, but when I called them back, they actually gave it back to me and made my loan back on track. If you tell them your situation, they will work with you. Some loan companies, once they repoed the car, unless you have money, they won't give it back.

I also miss being able to work with CITI Financial and hate that Santander has taken over their loans....Supposedly CITI is getting rid of a lot of their financial services so be prepared if you have anything else through them.

I agree! Not even 5 days late. If you're 1 day late they harass the crap out of you. I don't answer any calls that aren't numbers saved in my phone anymore mostly because of them and GE Money. Always changing their numbers and calling 2-10 times a day. VERY ANNOYING. I get calls from these same numbers- 303-302-1410. Also 214-686-0096, 972-512-5500 and 224-222-5000.

I just got a call from this number...Santander bought out my auto loan from HSBC a few years ago and I have to say that at first I was disappointed, but I have honestly been very late on my payments more than a few times. They have always worked with me and have been very professional and willing to help if your honest with them. I've read a lot of other posts on sites that give Santander a lot of criticism but with me I've never experienced that. They are very dedicated to calling trying to get payments, but so is the company I work for. They have owners and probably a board of directors to answer to about their P&L, etc.

this is interesting. because I always see Misc Fees on my account, and yes, I pay late but I get current. And the late fees they have charged me are more than what I still owe on the loan!
I haven't seen a statement or letter in months, yet they continue to call.

I also need to warn you all that my husband and I BOTH have had vehicles reposessed by Santander. I personally had less than a year to pay on my vehicle and was less than 3 months behind on my payments and they showed up and just hauled it away. Then they have the audacity to sell your vehicle for pennies on the dollar and want you to pay the balance on the loan, so BEWARE. They are the worst company in the world to finance with but when we went to purchase another vehicle, we were shocked that they approved us and we were signing the paperwork before we ever even knew who was financing it. Do NOT let car dealers tell you that there are "up front bank fees" that you have to pay either because we were hit with $1000 worth of these fees and still Santander tells us that we did not have to pay those and that there also is no grace-period on our loan whatsoever.

I receiveved phone calls from this company every month from the following two numbers, one right after the other. 425-372-0491 and also 303-302-1410 and it is Santander USA. So if you have an automobile loan with them, they are persistant but my bill is paid every month online, but they always want you to be coerced into paying it early so they harrass the daylights out of you by calling you constantly.

If you want to get ahead of them on this game, send them as much as you can afford over and above you minimum monthly payment.  This reduces your principal, on which they can charge you interest on.  Over the life of the loan you'll save yourself huge sums of money that you would have paid interest on had you just made the minimum payment.  Want to screw Santander Consumer USA?  Work towards paying off the loan early.  Try this.  Figure out how much only the interest is on the loan, make the usual minimum payment, and then throw the interest on top of it.  Even as little as $25 extra will knock the principal down and save you some real money in interest that scumbags like Santander would have sponged off of you.  Oh and if they try the old, since you paid it off early, you have to pay fees, make them show you on the contract you signed that says you have to pay it, or rather have them explain it to your attorney, and they will usually back off unless it's in there.  Even if it is, it will almost always be less than the interest you would have racked up over the life of the loan.

I called it back, Santander .......  I tried to talk to someone, but I had no account number and I sure wasn't going to give them my ss number.  so after trying just to speak with someone, I gave up....I have no loan with anyone, and I paid cash for my car, so I have no idea why they are calling me.  I was harassed by another debt collection company, and I googled them, wrote to their company, sent cc to my Congressman and attorney...got a letter of apology from them.....so lets see if they resell this debt (?) to another company.  Can't really feel sorry for them if these companies keep buying bad or fraudulent debts.
