had a call from Jack 303-351-5183 with the same line of BS. I didn't bite.

I received this call from "Jack" who spoke with an accent. He had info about my System Mechanic installation and tried to feed me a line about needing to fix an on-line virus. I hung up on him.

Like everyone above, I got a call from "Mike" saying he was from Iolo about my System Mechanic software. I NEVER listen to someone who wants me to do something to the computer - I tell them "give me your number and I'll call you back". I did get the number (303) 351-5183 and even his direct number (303) 351-5183 x 201. "Mike" had a distinctive Indian accent and I could hear the call centre people in the backgound. So, I played along for a while... I asked him how he knew that I was having computer problems? I said that I've been using System Mechanic at least 3x a day and if they had a good product, how come they were calling me to tell me that there was a potential problem? "Why not just have an upgrade?" (Could not answer).
I then pretended to get VERY UPSET about the Iolo company saying that their products can't be good. He didn't know how to answer. I told him that I was having dinner but that I would call him back in about 1/2 hour - that's how I got the personal contact number. I called Iolo in California and there is a notice in the Knowledge base saying that there are companies that are pretending to be Iolo representatives and that the company does not call customers. I gave them the information about who called and what they were saying.
I did say that what upsets me the most is HOW DID "MIKE" know that I had System Mechanic in the first place AND my telephone number? The customer rep. gave me an incident report number and when I get to speak to someone about this, I'll post it here.
In the interim. Do Not...DO NOT... give ANY information as it's totally a fraud and you could lose all your personal information.

Oh and he will tell you a lot of believable information but don't believe it... its all fake... he will say that the company was getting signals from your computer that it was being hacked...
| Ale 2014-04-11 18:07:09 Unknown |
Indian accent... and he says that we have all these viruses... he says he is with iolo and he is our computer... i decided to check out the number and i can find no connection between his number and the company... we called the iolo company and the told us he is a face... he will download things into your computer (most likely to stay in after u kick him out) and he will sell you fake things for hundreds of dollars, all he wants is to have access to your computer to get your personal information such as bank accounts and other stuff to take money from you later... the best thing for you to do if he is in your computer is shut it off and call the company @ 1 (323) 257-8888 (or if you don't trust the number i just gave you just search it on your own i don't blame you for not trusting me)
-That one angry camper.

The Indian was very attimate that I bought his software. Itold him I didn't know what he was talking about but he was very persistent to get me in front of my computer and show me. I finally told him I didn't trust him and I was going to google him. He wasn't phased and told me to call him when I had the time.

My husband has been called by someone from this number several times today to be told that they got messages from our computer that we have a virus, and that we need to let his techs on to fix it. He told them to stop calling, but they are insistent that they are only trying to help.

303-351-5183 Tom Kelly and Peter Smith, both with Inidian accents (Both of whom told me they were born in colorado and that I was listening to a colorado accent!!!) told me to put a program in their run box which iallows remote access and control. of my computer. I pressed the supervisor for the number, which his employee gave me, but instead of telling me the number, just said it was a colorado number. When I pushed , instead of asking his employee, he hung up.

A person with an Indian accent called and claimed to represent System Mechanic and that they had noted lots of problems with my computer. Cleverly done - they point out lots of errors in the event log, run a DOS command which seems to scan lots of files and ends up noting that two hackers are present. They show process csrss.exe and Google it to a Web site that identifies it only as a critical Trojan that should be removed immediately. Eventually they want $200 or $300 to clean and fix everything and provide indefinite protection. Fortunately I haven't found any damage they'd done.

Same happened to me. What should I look for that they may have put on my computer?

Someone has called me several times from this number saying they are with Iolo System Mechanic. Since I do have this software, I let them have access to my computer. While he was working on my PC I got suspicious and called iolo. They said they do not call customers and don't have offices in Colorado and to get the guy off my PC asap, but he had already had access. Afterwards McAfee found a Trojan Horse, several viruses and 10 attempts to hack my PC. Took them 3 hours to clean it. I have had to change all my usernames & passwords. These people are frauds & I reported it iolo, but as of today I am still getting calls from this number.

They're still at it. Same story as others. Firewall and virus are now broken.

I was promised a call from IOLO System Mechanic management last week but that did not happen. I asked them if their customer information was hacked since the India person had all my Sys Mech info like registration number, date of renewal, my telephone number, home address, and the fact that I had opened an incident earlier this year.

Its a scam and all they want is your money! They have no way of knowing whats going on with your computer and No legitimate company cold calls like this. The scam usually entails them taking you to your event viewer which is a internal monitor that logs events on your computer.. Oh sure, you will see the error's logged, but its all a scam to get you to allow them access to your computer. The event viewer is only doing its job and its there for a real tech to look through should you actually have a problem. Then they want remote access! They usually turn your anti virus program off and give you a big spiel, then inform you they want a small fee to fix it.. several hundred dollars of course! Meanwhile, they have access to all your computer and could be gleaning personal info, downloading stuff to your computer to turn it into a zombie computer to spam folks..
The only persons who should be touching your computer is you, your manufacturer, Real Windows support that you have called and/or maybe a real live tech you see face to face!

I got the iolo call too. He said he could fix my compuer for $100. When I told him I didn't have $100, he said,"how much do you have?" I said,"Good-Bye". and reported the phone # to the real iolo company. I just hope he didn't plant something in my computer. I gave him access. He left the program "Support Desk Doctor 7". I deleated it, and ran a full scan. So far so good.

A man with an Indian accent ( country), said that he was with IOLO System Mechanic computer software, said that they detected my computer having problems at their headquarters in India. He had my full name, email address as well. I do have that software installed on my computer. However, I Googled the phone number, and it showed that it was originating in Colorado. I asked him why he had a 303 area code, and he said that the American headquarters is in California ( not Colorado). But, regardless of where his headquarters is, the phone call originated in India. So, why did a 303 area code show up on my phone.
Ihe was wanted me to download software from another internet site, to allow him to control and fix my computer from India. I passed up on the offer, since I was not sure if he was legit. He may have been legit, but, I wasn't going to take the chance, since I was not 100 % sure.
