Have received a few calls from this number.  Comes up "Culver City CA" on the Caller ID.  Never leaves a message.

The best way to deal with these idiots is this:
If a number comes up that you don't recognize,  DO NOT ANSWER - PERIOD!
DO NOT call them back - EVER!!
Each time they call you, report them.  If the same number calls you a hundred times a week, then report it a hundred times.

If everyone would do this, it would put eventually the scammers out of business.

File a complaint with the FTC...it does work.
Network World - The Federal Trade Commission today said it has won a $7.5 million civil penalty ? the largest ever -- against Mortgage Investors Corporation, one of the nation's biggest refinancers of veterans? home loans for allegedly violating "Do Not Call" requirements.
According to the FTC?s complaint, Mortgage Investors Corporation called consumers on the Federal Trade Commission?s National Do Not Call Registry, failed to remove consumers from its company call list upon demand, and misstated the terms of available loan products during telemarketing calls.

Specifically, the FTC said Mortgage Investors? telemarketers called more than 5.4 million numbers listed on the National Do Not Call Registry to offer home loan refinancing services to current and former U.S. military consumers in violation of the overarching Telemarketing Sales Rule. The telemarketers also allegedly led service members to believe that low interest, fixed rate mortgages were available at no cost, often quoting rates that they implied would last the duration of their loan. In reality, Mortgage Investors only offered adjustable rate mortgages in which consumers? payments would increase with rising interest rates and would require consumers to pay closing costs. In addition, Mortgage Investors allegedly misled consumers about their affiliation with the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA), the FTC said.

The settlement, announced on the 10-year anniversary of the DNC Registry, marks the 105th such action since the agency began enforcing the Do Not Call provisions of the TSR in 2004. Some of the FTC?s lawsuits have been against household names like DirecTV, Columbia House, Craftmatic, ADT Security Systems, Ameriquest Mortgage, and the marketer of Rascal Scooters. Litigation against Dish Network is ongoing.

?We created the National Do Not Call List to put consumers in charge and reduce unwanted and intrusive calls from telemarketers,? said Timothy Muris, the former FTC Chairman who spearheaded the initiative in a statement. ?Ten years later, with 221 million American consumers registered, it is one of the agency?s most recognized consumer protection achievements.?

Today is 6/27/13 and they started calling this morning from the same number as listed above but this time they have called 30 times and that was all before Noon Today. I have reported them to the Do Not Call List by every minute. I don't know who else to call I bought a phone with Call Blocking but it still has to ring 1 time to identify the caller. This is HARASSMENT who else do you call?????????

When I was being tormented by a bill collector looking for Michael the Deadbeat I told the caller "Michael does not live here.  You have GOT to stop calling this number."  It worked.  I got 1 more call for Michael, frpm a 3rd party debt collection company.

I was lucky.   It was up to 6 calls/day,but only for 2 weeks before I tried that.  It may not work for you.

Contacting the Public Utilities Commission sounds like a good idea, too.

Wrong, the Federal Do Not Call Registration is permanent until you request to be taken off or you change your phone number.  Go read the FAQ on the Do Not Call website.  Also, only calls trying to sell you goods or services are covered and then only if you have not done business with that company in the past 18 months.  All other unsolicited calls are not covered by the Do Not Call rules.  Other rules are supposed to apply, namely that charities, surveys, political organizations and companies you do business with are supposed to place you on their own Do Not Call list but that is almost never permanent.

Marie - The Do Not Call Registry is good for 5 yrs. However - these supposed "non-profits" aren't bound by the law.

Best bet is to just ignore the Caller ID - I no longer pick up the phone for any number that I don't recognize.

I've had the same # for 5 yrs. For the past 5 yrs., I've been getting calls from bill collectors for 3 different people. I used to answer, say they didn't live here - these guys would hang up. Finally, I hit #1 as if I were whoever they were looking for. They all say they'll take my # off the list. Well, they do but only for 3 months and then it starts again. So I keep playing their game since I know the numbers by now.

Me - I paid off all my credit cards yrs. ago and closed them out. I don't owe anyone a dime. When it starts again, I'm calling the PUC in my State to get these bill collectors to permanently remove my number.

Sorry but why did you even donate the 1st time??? Once they have you, they won't let go. Now you'll get not only calls but flyers since they have your name/address.

I recommend that you call your Public Utilities Commission or Dept. of Public Utilities. Should be in your phone book in your State section or on the back of your phone bill. I did billing for the phone co. - I know it's on your bill.

Time to put these people out of business & prosecuted. It's usually a con. Your PUC will work with the State Atty. General to get these clowns.

Good luck !!!!

STOP!!!! Just STOP!!!! Call me at 9 AM on a Sat., no msg. but wake everyone up. And no, I'm not giving you any money, not listening to your sales pitch, I don't owe you or anyone a dime since I stay on top of my bills.
Came up as a local area call - well, since I'm on the opposite side of the USA, it's not a 'local' call.
I'm retired from Verizon and I PAY for a non-pub number so people like you don't call. My kid works for Verizon now so be careful - I still have the connections to put you out of business. In my State, the PUC would just love to get a call from me since the head of it worked for Verizon for years.

Got that???? Good .....

Yes, I abided by the rules. Everything I say is truthful. NO message so it's unidentifiable.

They called at 8:30 a.m. on a Saturday .  They insisted they were from my LOCAL calling area but they were calling from California.  They insisted they were calling from my LOCAL volunteer fire fighters association for their Spring fundraising campaign and wanted my credit card number for my $12.00 donation.  First, I know my local firefighters due their fundraising in the mail... Second, the guy was so pushy... and third my local firefighters never ask for a specific amount.  This is definitely a scam and I made my local police and local fire house aware.  Be careful!

I'm right there with most of you, LIly, I'm sickened about your story. Do Not Mess With A Vet!!!

Caller ID says local calling area which isn't even close to the area code in my state. My number is on the National registry AND my phone company charges a monthly fee to block unwanted numbers.  This last caller seemed put out because I interrupted him in mid sentence. I didn't want to be mean or rude but I was asleep when they called and I told them so.

These guys are pure scammers.  They are spoofing the number and caller id.  Same criminals who sit offshore and do "Card Services".  The Do Not Call list is ineffective.  You have to get a call blocking device like Digitone to block them by area code because they just keep spoofing different numbers from all over the country.

Called at 8:13 a.m. on a Friday. Caller identified himself as a paid solicitor for JKA Associates calling on behalf of a firefighters association -- said that my 100% tax-deductible donation would go to aid volunteer firefighter groups. Solicitor asked whether the "gold" or "silver" level of donation would be better for me. I said I made no donations over the phone. Solicitor said "have a good day" and hung up.

Also, my caller ID had the call as "LOCAL CALL AREA" even though area code 310 is across the country from where I am. (I figured the call was a solicitor of some sort and answered so I could report about it here.)

"The Fundraising Information Center" (a landline in or near Culver City, Los Angeles, CA) which "tried to contact you (i.e, all of us) earlier about a fundraiser "for one of the nation's finest childrens', health, or public safety" organizations.

If you call them back, you'll get a message that they tried to call you earlier, a request to enter your telephone number and hit a prompt key, after which time you'll be disconnected from the line. Another way to get around the DO NOT CALL lists!

Look good people, the majority of legit AND tax deductible charities/organizations will contact you directly, primarily via mail.  Don't send one cent to or through groups of this nature!  Lily, if your father comitted the $20 donation via a charge plate, please contact the credit card company, especially if within 72 hours of the call. If by check, stop it. And, if he's harassed via calls from this "organization," report them via his phone company and whatever governmental organization will take the complaint.

This abuse, especially of those who are unable to defend or protect themselves, needs to stop!
