They called me and told me it was Visa or some credit card company.  They said they had some $1000 gift card they were giving out to preferred customers and they offered me a 2nd gift (I got to choose between a $300 gas card or diamond watch).  Then they asked me to verify my address to send my gift card at which point I asked them to give me a number to call them back with so that I could make sure it wasn't a scam.  He again told me he needed my address and avoided the question, so I repeated that I would call the company back on my own (after looking up their number on a credible website or something) to make sure it wasn't a scam.  He again gave me some roundabout answer, I repeated myself again and then he was quick to hang up.  Definitely a scam

A guy keeps calling my phone from this number (310)438-7976 and leaving me messages. He says his name is Oscar and he is calling from Banker's Life and Casualty Co. in Honolulu for Herman. He says he got "Herman's" resumee from Careerbuilder.com and he would like more info. He says to call him back he is in the Honolulu area and to call between 8am to 5pm Mon-Fri Hawaii time. Anyway I just thought it was odd he would say he is in Hon. Hi but his number says Paramount, CA and he seems to have a Indian accent. Oh yeah and I'm not Herman. (My voicemail even says my name)

+015145551111 was the number. The call came from out of the country. Same scam, asked if I was over 21. Said I was a "valued cardholder". I told her I was at work & not to call this # again. I told her flat out that it sounded like a scam. I'm glad to see that people have had similar calls.

I got a call from this # today and it left a message on my voicemail, it had a lot of background noise (music playing) at the beginning and end of the message.
The message said
"Hello Maria this is Rick (or Ridge) calling for bank of life, we looked at your resume through yahoo hotjobs, and I have a few questions  I would like to ask, so please give me a call back at 3104387976, if you didn't catch me directly let me know a good time to call you back"

I got the same exact call.  She told me I won a $300 gas card, free magazine subscriptions and entrance into the "Dreams Come True Sweepstakes."  She asked for my address and I kept pushing asking who she was and all she could give me was an address; no website, no references.  First she told me only a supervisor could give me the address then she gave it to me when I pushed.  She also wanted me to subscribe to "Interview" which I'd have to pay for.  That's when the bells really went off.  I finally just hung up but I suspect they'll call again.

So I got a call on my cellphone from an Indian guy saying he was calling from visa, asked if I was a cardholder for visa, amex, or mastercard then told me that I won a 300 gas card at no charge to me....I could tell then that it was a scam and after a couple of seconds of me not saying anything he asked if I was still carrying my card...at that moment I hung up...it is definitely a scam.  If they call back I will definitely let them know that I know they are not for real...please remember everyone...no one should ask for your card number over the phone....red flag!

Got a call today from (310) 438-7976. There was a lot of static and a woman with a very strong indian accent asked if I was who I was. After, she went on and told me she was with Publishers something and that they wanted to expressed their gratitude and that since I've been a good card customer for VISA, MC, AExp and Discovery, I was entitled to receive a $300 Gift card to be used anywhere and to transfer to anyone.
Then she asked for my mailing address and I told her I will not provide it. She responded that this is a unique offer and asked for my address again. I told her to give the card to someone else and we hung up.
There is no way I am giving some telemarket my address. In addition, I've been a card holder for 20+ years and I have never gotten anything from them.....this sure sounds like a big scam. Thank you to all the ones who have posted.

Called on my cellphone. A woman said they were "calling long distance from California", and asked if I was a Visa/Mastercard or Amex cardholder.  I replied "isn't nearly everyone?", anyway, they said I was "a valued cardholder" and I had been selected to receive a $300 gas card.
Next she asked for my mailing address to confim where it would be sent.
I said "my normal home address" but she said they don't have it.

That sounded fishy to me so I hung up.  Then googled the number.

Seems they're a scam but changing their offer...

Called because I supposedly am a "valued card holder." Offered $300 gas card, subscription to several magazines.  They asked for my mailing address, which I gave, and immediately regretted.  They said they could make the same offer to other family members if they were card holders too. I said I didn't have any such information and hung up.

I was stupid.  I shouldn't even have picked up the number.

Omg! No sooner than I left my previous comment publishers outlet called again!!!!  I told the lady I know it's a scam and kept asking where she got my number. Her response was that my number came from the other department. I didn't settle for that. Since the company wants to call me and waste my time I decided I was going to waste theirs.  So I kept pushing and asked for a better answer about how they got my number.  Sad to say she couldn't tell me and then told me she was new.  I asked to speak to a supervisor and she started soliciting me again!  It was honestly quite comical.  Oh and the supervisor will be calling me back...yeah right!!!  I asked for their physical address and I was given this: 107 Torrance Blvd., Torrance, Ca 90503.  And believe it or not she again tried to solicite me one more time....simply amazing.  So I lost my composure and screamed at her.  She got the point.
