I keep getting a call from this number
it has been approx. two years now. First few times, it was a male. with a heavy accent, claiming to be Microsoft, and telling me that my computer was about to get a virus. Wanted to provide me with some technical support. I have received the same call at least a total of five times now. If I do not pick up, they never leave a msg. in my answering machine. More recently, a female started just saying hello repeatedly into my answering machine, waiting for someone to pick-up. I heard a lot of background noise, which did not sound quite like a call center where you can actually hear some voices, but possibly trying to mimic one - unless these people work in a team. This needs to stop. It is so obvious that they are working very hard at SCAMMING people. Please be aware!!!! Something needs to be seriously done to prevent criminals of this kind trying tactics to victimize others, instead of getting a real honest job!

Don't fall for their crap.  They will convince you to let them remotely repair your computer.  Once they are in your computer, they hack into your personal information.  When they are done they disable your computer so that it gives them time to use your information.  Oh ya! The kicker is they charge your credit card for repairing your computer.

I let the caller go through his presentation. He put a password on my computer so that I could not restart it. I over-rode the boot sequence and restored to an earlier point. Not a problem. But I also cancelled my credit cards just in case. The number he gave me as a contact was 855-731-4936. Searching that phone number turned up that this scam has been around as early as November 2012. http://www.consumer.ftc.gov/blog/ftc-combats-tech-support-scams

Just received a call from  # 310-510-9156 a guy with heavy Indian accent told me I have a problem with my computer. I told him I'm an IT guy and he should stop with the BS. He hung up on me. All those Magic jack, and Vonage make it easy for scammers to call and try to get all kind of info.

I just got a call from this number, caller ID says San Pedro CA, they said they were calling from Microsoft to tell me they were getting an error message from my computer because it was downloading a virus, then asked if my computer was on - how can they be getting a message if my computer isn't on? I asked them how they got my number numerous times, they finally answered that it was from some registry, I could barely understand them. I told them I didn't know what that was, I wasn't registered on anything and they asked if I had a Windows computer - how could Microsoft be getting a message from my computer if I didn't have Windows? They wanted me to do something on my keyboard but I kept questioning them about how they knew anything about my computer. I asked if they had my name and they did (scary), then after all my questioning they said I was wasting their time, I said no you are wasting my time and hung up. There were 2 men who talked to me, they both had very heavy accents, Indian or Pakistani or something that sounded like that. The whole thing seemed fishy to me.

This same call was received by my parents and the foreign sounding man claimed he was from windows and he had proof the computer has multiple viruses. The man also said he could be contacted if there were any questions at 1-866-539-8674 ext. 20011 My dad hung up after the foreign sounding man asked for personal information. Knowing this was a fraud, the number was never called. Unfortunately my parents receive multiple phone calls a day with fraudulent numbers. We have called themm back and they are not in service

We have been receiving numerous calls from this number from an Asian sounding mail..  Sometimes it is a female calling.  Both know my name and ask for me by name.  Then they say they are from Windows or Microsoft and that my computer is badly infected and that I should log on right away..  Then they can access my computer and fix the problem....right!!!!!!  BEWARE, these people are scammers and are just trying to get your personal information for fraudulent purposes....probably identity theft.  Anyway the numbers they used today were 210-824-0171 and 310-510-9156

These guys just called me today, asking if they could send me an e-mail as they were looking to expand into my town or something silly like that.

Obviously some kind of scam. Just like Al!ssa I could also hear someone else in the background.

I received a call today too I did not answer, however my PC really did crash today and I spent hours on a complete restore. Maybe it is about my PC? I clicked on send results to Microsoft to resolve issues so perhaps it really is them? Not willing to call back someone that does not leave a message though.

It is a SCAM. Microsoft NEVER calls you about your computer. Go to the Microsoft website and it tells all about this scam and what to do if you receive the calls.

Just got a call from 310-510-9156.  A foreign sounding man starting prattling on about my computer crashing and he would talk me through saving my computer.  I asked him where he was calling from and he stated "Microsoft".  I asked what country he was calling from, and he seemed stumped.  Then I told him I have a Mac and he got very upset and asked why I wasn't using Microsoft.  I hung up before he could say anything else.

Got a call from 310-510-9156. When I answered the woman on the other end told me her name was Lily. She had a very strong foreign accent that I could hardly understand. She informed me that she was from the US government calling to let me know that I had been selected to receive $7,800 from the US government. She than asked to put me on hold. I hung up since things weren't making any sense. My phone rang just as soon as I put it down, this time the number was 607-734-9189. I again answered and it was the same person. She again proceeded to tell me what she did before. She gave me a call back number, as well as a confirmation number and her full name, Lily Miller. She told me to call the number and give them the information and then she instructed me to go to my nearest Western Union location and take three things with me. First, valid ID; Second, I can't remember; and third, a security deposit of $285 (I think that was the amount). Before I could say anything, she asked me when I would be able to go to Western Union. I told her I was busy and didn't know when I could get there. She said, "If you don't want the money, we are not forcing you to take it." She then told me that this was free money to me, but again I was not forced to take it. After telling her again that I didn't know when I would get to Western Union she became very short with me and her final comment was "You don't have to take the money, I will cancel your account from the system." She then hung up before I could say anything.

Got this call about an hour after receiving the same call from a different area code. They keep hoping to fool you. (No, I didn't answer - I ignored the calls and typed the numbers into here and say they were connected to the same scam. Unusually this one actually went to my voicemail; they didn't leave a message but at least I know it cost them a few cents to receive the voicemail greeting.
