Okay guys, this is how I got them to stop calling me: I called this number after hours and left a message on their voice mail asking them not to call me anymore. I also told them that if they continue to call me at work or at home that I would be forced to take further action against them. So far they have not called me anymore.

I found out the same information. My caller said that there was a civil claim filed against me and I was named as respondent. They said if me or my attorney did not call back, further litagation would follow. Seems strange that all of these calls seem to have taken place in May and June of 2009.  Makes you wonder, if this is a legit collection agency, where were they before last month? Why are they using this tactic on people who have no statements or bills from them? Why are they calling jobs and neighbors and using intimidation? Lets see if any of these summons ever get served.  I suspect they won't. I did contact an attorney in my state (CA) and he contacted the agency and said he believes it is a scam... so  everyone be careful.

Someone calling from 312-224-8683 left a message at 5:38 a.m. that my husband was being sued. We live in Oregon. He is listed in the phone book by his first initials. They referred to him as Ronald H------. That is not his first name. Two years ago the same people calling from Chicago did the same thing. I e-mailed the direct attorneys office and gave them all the details. The calls stopped.

This company called and when I requested that they send me a letter explaining what they wanted, that I wasnt giving any info over the phone, the caller named Jill, continued to talk and threaten me.  I told them that I wouldnt discuss it on the phone and they needed to send me information regarding this matter.  She used my statement to continue to talk but not answer any of my questions.  She threatened to call my employer.  She called my ex-father-in-law who's been my ex for 10 years, called my ex-sister-in-law and my neighbor.  She gave them personal information about me.  She called my house 5 times in 3 hours and my cell phone 2 times in in the same 3 hours.  My ex-father-in-law called my ex-husband who called this Jill person.  She asked him if I was sane.  EXCUSE ME?  How is that relevant?  That question is completely inappropriate.  I finally called my local police department to file a report for phone harassment.  The officer who came called the company and requested they stop calling.  I spoke to Sebastian, Jill's super, who told me that my ex-relatives and neighbors were on a list of known associates and they had every right to call them.  If the person they called requested they not be called again, the company supposedly will take them off the list.  He claimed that some of the people he called said they werent surprised that I had a collection agency after me.  Excuse me??
When he was finished drilling me, I attempted to get him to hold so the officer could talk to him again.  He hung up.  The officer called him back and requested that he stop calling me, that the only information I wanted was in writing.  The officer said he couldnt write a report but that he could make a note in his records and that if the company continues to call me, he could write a report for phone harassment.
I have never heard of tactics like this.  I am completely appalled that a company would act like this.  Do I have no recourse at all??

OK.  Called this number only to have them verify that, in fact, they are looking for someone else with a similar name.  It was actually quick since the middle initial, last for of soc. sec. #, and previous address were all wrong.  He apologized and said they had called the wrong person.

It was an interesting day or two of annoyance, but a good opportunity to brush up on the Fair Debt Collection Act as well as rights in this regard.  My advice is to take very detailed notes about any and all conversations you have with any debt collector.  Get names, notate dates and times, quote directly as much as possible.  I did have an experience a few years ago where I was contacted by a company trying to collect on a debt I had settled several years previous.  By simply sending them highly detailed notes of the conversations I had had with the original source, the collection agency immediately ceased their efforts and even apologized for the inconvenience.  These agencies operate by intimidation and if you demonstrate you are organized and well informed they will often back down (assuming you are in the right).

A question to those with some legal knowledge in this matter.  I have received an answering machine message at my office (which seems to suggest this company does not know my home phone or address) regarding a "civil complaint filed against me."  Since I am pretty confident there is no such legitimate complaint, and I do not have any debts in delinquency or collections, I can only suspect that perhaps this agency has purchased some information regarding old debts that were paid off or settled many years ago.  My question is, should I just ignore this company or should I call them back to dispute and put the ball in their court?  I am 100% sure this is fraudulent, I"m just not sure the best way to proceed from my end.

Received a message on my office answering machine today from this number and someone calling himself Patrick Right.  Saying it was in regards to a "civil complaint filed against me in my county".  When I returned the call it was already late evening so only received a message mentioning Legal, Asset and Seizure office. I too am extremely skeptical since I think any legitimate complaint would come from my county, not Chicago, and he might actually KNOW what county I am.  I suppose I'll try returning the call in the morning only to obtain more information from them, but I definitely will not verify any information that a true civil office would be able to obtain.

This is supposedly a 'locator' agency.  They're hired to verify mailing addresses (which you should never do to a random, out-of-state company).  Both people I spoke to were INCREDIBLY rude.  One hung up on me, the other banged the phone on the desk and asked if I was 'f****ng rude or just a deaf a***ole'.  It doesn't matter what you tell them, they do not care.

I got the same thing. That woman Gail Brinkley is a rude you know what, I don't even know how they get away with being so ugly to people. But just an FYI I researched and there are laws to protect the consumer in situations like this, they cannot be asking you for your account number routing number or anything like that, they have to work out a deal.

I would report them, I HAVE NO PROBLEM WITH IT, lol--

Problem is....

There is no business license information for them, no BBB report, nothing in a phone directory listing for them (address, business contact or an actual business phone number).

I am not going to pay for a background search on them to find it. Hopefully someone will be able to access some information for them, but it is likely these people are not going to be caught :(

You can request that they not call you at work and once you have done that
then you can report them if they call again, and they  CAN NOT GIVE OUT YOUR PERSONAL INFO TO ANOTHER PERSSON OR HR. Tonya, I would report them to the Attorney Generals office in your state and also in Chicago. All of the above is in violation of the the Fair debt Collection Practices Act. Alsoyou can file suit against them for harrassement.
If everyone would report them the practices of this agenecy would be stopped.

Just received a call from Samantha Beinowski at 312-224-8683. She was looking for my mother and said she was being sued by the State we reside in (which is not Illinois). Said to have my mother call 312-224-8053 number. I asked for 800# as we do not have long distane service and was told her company didn't have one; but was told my mother NEEDED TO FIND SOMEONE WHO HAD LONG DISTANCE SERVICE AND TO CALL THE 312 NUMBER. She said it was urgent that my mother or her attorney call back or she could just wait for summons. I asked if she had sent a letter (as my mother and I live together and I check the mail daily and give my mother a run-down of what came in) and saw nothing from this company. SAMANTHA BEINOWSKI stated they don't send letters, that was not how her company did things. There is no lawsuit pending (just checked). I've got to ask why would our home state would contact someone over 2000 miles away in Chicago to represent them in a lawsuit? I think this is an obvious scam. Without anything written to reference to, that is all I can think of.

I think you guys are making too much of this. I have a debt that they wanted to collect on. I know from my past how much this debt was. They offered a settlement for much less and provided me a letter of exoneration from them and the original creditor. They are crooked and underhanded in the way they get to you, but we all have debts that need to be payed so why not try to get a settlement and save your credit. This is just the way I handled it. I have no evidence that this is a scam, just rude people.

I did a little more digging and I found out the name of the company is Legal Assets and Seizers.  This is the information that I got from their voicemail system when I tried to give them a call.  They have actually spoken to the HR Department at my job already.  My HR Department told them that if this is a legit Credit and Collections company they have to follow the protocols an obtain a court ordered summons in order to have my wages garnished. Of course their not going to do that.  I'm really upset that this company has obtained my personal information.  I can't let them get away with this.

Right now I don't know.  But what I did was contact the Attorney Generals office in Chicago, IL which is where this phone number is generating from to seek action.  Go to the website and file a complaint like I did, it can't hurt.  www.IllinoisAttorneyGeneral.gov.  I'm trying to find out as much information as I can from my co-workers and other sources.  My co-workers think it is fraudulant, if so I want to know how did this company obtain all of my personal information.  This is degrading and extremely embarrassing.  If she keeps harrassing me, my co-workers and the HR Department at my job I could possibly loose my job.  These people need to stopped!!!!!!

Well that is the thing that is do weird.  They have information on an actual debt that I have BUT they are trying to charge me WAY MORE than the debt actually is.  They keep calling my job telling me that if I don't pay the debt they are going to issue me a summons at my place of work.  They keep calling my job being very obnoxious and rude, speaking to all of my co-workers and yesterday (05/14/2009) they actually spoke to the HR department at my job.  It was so embarrassing.  I don't know what I can DO.  Please give me some advise of how to handle this PLEASE.

THEY CANNOT TELL ANY0NE ELSE THEY MAY SPEAK TO THAT YOU HAVE A DEBT PROBLEM  That is a violation of the Fair debt Collection Practices Act.

So is claiming they are suing you or having you arrested.

Be careful  there is a KNOWN FAKE DEBT COLLECTOR SCAM THAT HAS BEEN ONGOING
They use threats of immediate arrest if you do not pay them over the phone. They also refuse to provide any proof that the debt is indeed yours.

DEBT COLLECTORS HAVE TO PROVE ITS YOUR DEBT, and it does not sound like they are doing anything but making harrassing calls and scare tactics to get you to pay money you do not owe.

Actually this phone number is from a very agressive credit and collections agency regarding a bill that you may owe.  They are very rude and they constantly call your job making harrassing comments about you and they talk to whatever employee that answers the phone then proceed to tell them all of your business regarding the bill you owe. They have been calling my job all week and told me they were going to issue me a summons at my job not at my home.  They are rude and very bold.  Be carefull!!!!
