Prank Call
I received a threatening call from 315.210.6164 on my home phone at 6:15 am PST.  The caller said he was from the IRS and that this was the second time they have called to inform me that if I did not return the call, or have my attorney call that I would encounter legal actions from the IRS.  I knew this had to be a scam call call because I already filed my 2013 return and paid a lot of taxes.

I have gotten 3 voice mails from this same number, twice from Officer Steve Harrison and then Officer Brian Jones (both have very strong Indian accents).  Both used the same exact script. I needed to contact them or my retained attorney. If I don't call or my attorney either, then all he can do is wish me luck as events unfold upon  me.  Have a great day.
I will have a great day when these guys are in  jail.

These idiots called my home referencing three years of supposedly unfiled tax returns and had the misfortune to get my husband (who for 75 years old is pretty tough- raised in Brooklyn) he first referred them to our CPA; then after it became apparent it was a scam, suggested they should come on down and TRY to collect. My attempts to call back and let them know i was reporting them to Md. Attorney General, etc. just resulted in continuous fast busy ring at that number.  Trust me, as an attorney, i know it is a scam. Right up there w the guy who calls and states ur computer is sending out a signal that it is malfunctioning and u need to get on the computer w him and give him info. so they can fix it.   Give them no information and dont return call. I did just because i was so angry they were clearly targeting elderly.

Wow, just wow. Incredibly threatening message, "God help you if you don't call back." Called himself Officer Brian John from the IRS but his English and diction were such a bad joke that it could only be a fake. Please do not even entertain a call back. I'll take my chances "Officer!"

What a d!ckhead - it was obvious he is a scammer given his accent (and I'm from South Asia originally!)!

This office calls  and leaves threatening messages, to call back. when I called back first time  it was the recorded with the same  threatening message. Finally did get hold of Anderson, wanted to know my name and phone, further saying if I had legal attorney for my case, I was reminding him why the first time the phone was on recorded when I called, seemed like he hung up.  I called again wanted  my phone and name, asked him who they were and where they were located? I  told him will not give over the phone, he said he would not give information over the phone either.

I got this stupid message from officer john Brian about dire consequences if he does not get a call from me or my attorney. Same Number 315 210 6164. He started leaving message before the beep so I did not hear particulars. Sounds like an Indian accent. His command of the English language leaves much to be desired. Thanks for the heads-up.

Received a call from Officer Brian John of the IRS, Indian accent, for my daughter. Called back, same voice, though now he was Daniel James.  Said he would only talk to my daughter or her retained attorney. I asked him if he was a federal employee of the Internal Revenue Service, and he claimed he was. (I was expecting honesty?)  Local taxpayer advocate googled the number and assured me it was a scam.  The IRS will contact you by certified mail if there is an issue with your taxes,

I got the same call. Somehow they can get just enough of your personal info to make it sound legit.  Don't be fooled by the threats of arrests and imprisonment.  The guy that called me was "Kevin Anderson".  If you get this call, call the IRS and report it.

WASHINGTON ? The Internal Revenue Service today warned consumers about a sophisticated phone scam targeting taxpayers, including recent immigrants, throughout the country.

Victims are told they owe money to the IRS and it must be paid promptly through a pre-loaded debit card or wire transfer. If the victim refuses to cooperate, they are then threatened with arrest, deportation or suspension of a business or driver?s license. In many cases, the caller becomes hostile and insulting.

?This scam has hit taxpayers in nearly every state in the country.  We want to educate taxpayers so they can help protect themselves.  Rest assured, we do not and will not ask for credit card numbers over the phone, nor request a pre-paid debit card or wire transfer,? says IRS Acting Commissioner Danny Werfel. ?If someone unexpectedly calls claiming to be from the IRS and threatens police arrest, deportation or license revocation if you don?t pay immediately, that is a sign that it really isn?t the IRS calling.? Werfel noted that the first IRS contact with taxpayers on a tax issue is likely to occur via mail
Other characteristics of this scam include:
Scammers use fake names and IRS badge numbers. They generally use common names and surnames to identify themselves.
Scammers may be able to recite the last four digits of a victim?s Social Security Number.
Scammers spoof the IRS toll-free number on caller ID to make it appear that it?s the IRS calling.
Scammers sometimes send bogus IRS emails to some victims to support their bogus calls.
Victims hear background noise of other calls being conducted to mimic a call site.
After threatening victims with jail time or driver?s license revocation, scammers hang up and others soon call back pretending to be from the local police or DMV, and the caller ID supports their claim.
If you get a phone call from someone claiming to be from the IRS, here?s what you should do:
If you know you owe taxes or you think you might owe taxes, call the IRS at 1.800.829.1040. The IRS employees at that line can help you with a payment issue ? if there really is such an issue.
If you know you don?t owe taxes or have no reason to think that you owe any taxes (for example, you?ve never received a bill or the caller made some bogus threats as described above), then call and report the incident to the Treasury Inspector General for Tax Administration at 1.800.366.4484.
If you?ve been targeted by this scam, you should also contact the Federal Trade Commission and use their ?FTC Complaint Assistant? at FTC.gov.  Please add "IRS Telephone Scam" to the comments of your complaint.
Taxpayers should be aware that there are other unrelated scams (such as a lottery sweepstakes) and solicitations (such as debt relief) that fraudulently claim to be from the IRS.
The IRS encourages taxpayers to be vigilant against phone and email scams that use the IRS as a lure. The IRS does not initiate contact with taxpayers by email to request personal or financial information.  This includes any type of electronic communication, such as text messages and social media channels. The IRS also does not ask for PINs, passwords or similar confidential access information for credit card, bank or other financial accounts. Recipients should not open any attachments or click on any links contained in the message. Instead, forward the e-mail to phishing@irs.gov.

More information on how to report phishing scams involving the IRS is available on the genuine IRS website, IRS.gov.

We just got the same call from 315-210-6164. Some guy, with an Indian accent who called himself Brian and even offered up a fake employee ID 0852. He said if my mom owes some money to the IRS, and I need to go to the bank in the next 45 minutes and take out more than $5845 in cash. He terrorized my poor mother, who is the most responsible person I know. What crap! Don't get scammed.
