I also received a call from this company whom calls themself's Window technical support. Nothing but total scammers! They have a very thick india accent. This man's name was Eric & his bosses name was Robert Johnson. They showed me that my computer was infected with many viruses: probably by showing me a fake computer sceen. I fell for this since I am just learning the computer. I paid them for 10 years of antiviruse protection. Then they proceeded to infect my computer with viruses. It cost me a bundle to have a computer specialist come in and remove all the viruses they had infected my computer with. Then I attempted to get my money back from them. But I might as well have been whistling dixie. Of course they told me my money would be refunded in seven days through Paypal: but of course it wasn't. I was told if I didn't get the money back by then to contact Robert Johnson; whom I had talked to personally before. Of course every time I called he wasn't there or he was in Washington. Yeah Right! Then every time I called I either got a recording saying the person I wanted to speak with wasn't available or they would just plain hang up on me; they probably saw my same number on their caller I.D. Needless to say this has been nothing but a headache. I thought they tried to protect senior citizens from this kind of stuff (nice word). I certainly wasn't protected. When are they going to put a stop to these other country's ripping us off? Don't fall for this!! If anyone calls & says you have viruses on your computer; HANG UP IMMEDIATELY. They don't have access to your computer unless you give it to them. I hope this saves someone else from this DISASTER!!!!!!!! They pray on the vulnerable & innocent. Someone please stop this from going on!!!!!!!!

Yes he called my elderly mother this last weekend.  She calls me on about everything, and she was just about to give him her mstcd# and she called me from another phone.  I told her under NO circumstances give him any info. She told him That she couldn't find the # and got his name and this # to call him back.  I immediately went over and cleaned up her disk and all seems ok. How do these people do this!!?? And why so many nigerians having access to our computers, names etc?  Very frustrating.  She came unglued when I pulled up his number under scams, thank God she called me.

and yes Jackson is my real last name
I say this because after the Windows tech explained about my computer sending out a virus I asked for a number to call him back
- really hoping that he would hang up, but no & in his very think Indian accent he gave me the number and said the ask for Steve Jackson!
I wanted to say really??? He told me if I didn't call back he'd be calling me - a very good Widows customer - in a hour to fix my computer before I lose it

Same problem. A Guy saying he was from Microsoft and I had a virus which was going to destroy my machine in 2 days.. I asked him which of two computers he was talking about and he said both.. but he could not tell me which operating systems I was using.. so I got very suspicious.I asked him for a number to call him back on and he gave the name Kevin Cooper on 315-329-6161. I asked him the name of the virus and he said it was called "Troznn". From the background noise and accent I could tell he was phoning from a call centre (probably in India).
Having been in IT since 1963 I was wise enough not to fall for this scam, but I am sure that some good folks will.

Got the same call today with Indian accent and name given of James Thompson.  I was pressing for more information to identify who was really calling.  When I told him I was trying to figure out who he really was and where he was calling from because I knew this was a scam, he promptly hung up.

THIS IS A SCAM. Read about the your-PC-is-infected-corrupted scam here http://news.softpedia.com/news/Cold-Call-Tech ... on-150170.shtml They lie about your PC sending out malware, error messages, etc., and say your PC is about to crash to frighten you into giving them remote control of your PC to fix the nonexistent problem (don't let them!). If they ask you to open the systems tab in eventvwr.msc to see all the errors, these harmless errors are *normal* for any Windows PC (mine has several and it runs just fine). Don't let them take control of your PC because they can download *real* malware, possibly a malware suite, that can spam, steal bank logins and personal info, etc. If they've remoted into your PC, the safest fix is to re-format your drive and re-install your OS assuming you have clean backups of your data. You can try scanning with various antivirus software but scanning may not find all the malware. If you don't know how, get help from friends or pay a local shop to do it. THIS IS A SCAM.

I had a similar experience with a caller from "Microsoft" with the same phone number... with the thick foreign accents I could hardly understand and American/English names...  technician - Ron Black, supervisor - Robert Johnson.
Even though I knew better, I got into my computer using his instructions to go to TeamViewer and he showed me all the "warnings and errors".  He said these had to be removed or my computer would crash.  He gave me a choice of program terms: 5 years - $150, 10 years - $250, or Lifetime - $350.  I got so far as giving him my credit card number, but when he asked for my 'secure code', I told him no one had ever asked for my secure code, except my bank and refused.
I immediately called my bank credit card company and changed my credit card number.  Thankfully, no charges had shown up.  Of course, now I have to notify all the companies which automatically charge my cc for their services.  I also use my credit card for overdraft protection to back up my banking accounts.  The credit card person reminded me that would also have to be changed.
Needless to say, I have learned my lesson... well!

----Yesterday, here in Bakersfield, Calif., my friend also received a phone call from someone, with an India-sounding accent, identifying himself as "Mark Thomas" from Microsoft.  Same pattern as described below.  She was told her her computer was infected by a virus and they were contacting her to fix it.  They gave her a website address and asked her to log on.  Unfortunately, my friend DID go to the website.  After she logged on, her screen went dark....

When the caller offerred to fix the computer remotely for a fee, she declined.

At that point, she contacted Dell because the laptop was still under warranty.  They took 2 hours to clear and reformat the computer.  Dell identified the party that hacked her computer in New York.

Meanwhile, today, hackers called her repeatedly.  When my friend finally picked up the phone, they again told her that, for a fee, they could fix her virus-infected computer by loading a program into her computer.  They gave her a name and address to a business in India where she should wire them cash via Western Union.   When she declined,  they became pushy, asking why she wasn't going to fix her computer, etc.  In response, my friend again demanded the caller's name and phone number and was told:  "Mark Thomas   315-329-6161".

Today, armed with the information from Dell and from the phone calls, my friend begins the long process of  (a) notifying everyone - police, credit card companies, bank, credit reporting companies, etc., and (b) a lifetime of watchfullness.
