Unfortunately debt collectors can call people.  However they are supposed to stop calling and communicate only by US mail when asked by the person they call.

Creditors or debt collectors are not supposed to call you by phone. They are supposed to send letters. How do you know the debt is valid?

I got the same thing and he said I will be served papers at my home or place of employment and they will garnish wages or tax refund. Don't these people know they are not supposed to be calling people by phone but sending letters

If they are a legit company, they'll send a letter of validation. Scammers wont send a letter of validation cause they are scared to reveal their boiler room's location.

No legit company will harass people. Scammers on the other hand do harass people.

Hi - I just got the same message as you "say what" , it may be a legit company but They still are not allowed to threaten and use illegal tatics against you, its against the law and they can be reported.  My call was in regards to a payday loan that I had paid back in 2010 but I didnt have to pay the fee, after I did the loan  I had fraud on my account of other companies taking out $29.95 and $99.00 for some odd s***, so I closed my account,  it was only like a $200 payday loan.  and I was informed by PA dept. of banking that if I paid the principle plus fees i dont need to pay more, I found out they are not legal to lend in certain states. I asked RJ (Brad Sutton)  to send me information in writing to my home and not to call my work. he was over talking me and telling me i wrote fraud checks ... he called back stating a  summons is being  sent to me to my employment.  It's easy for people to say PAY YOUR DEBT and call people losers because they have debt... I have a job and yes i do pay my bills and have paid late, i thank god i still have a job but i have had no raise in 10 yrs because of the economy, there are so many people who lost their jobs and i'm sure they would love to be able to pay their bills but to call them low lifes' is just wrong  and I hope you guys that are calling people low life's I really hope that you never become unfortunate to lose your job and have to deal with debt collectors.

A man named Adam has been calling me and leaving messages about giving me 48 hours to return his call that me or my lawyer need to contact him other wise he will go to my employment and report me to the city with my social security complaint of debt to the El Paso County.

This is a company that PURCHASES debt that has been charged off or is old or whatever....they then use intimidation tactics that violate the Fair Collection Act in order to get you to pay the debt. Always insist that you wish to confer with legal counsel before agreeing to anything since there are so many scammers out there...if it is a legitimate call they should not have a problem with your getting the best advice on how to handle it. If they continue to call and harass you or family members indicate to them that you are now recording all calls from them and that you are hereby insisting that all interaction be done in writing. Also let them know that you are not able to take these calls at your place of employment.  No creditor is allowed to harass you and you ARE entitled to discuss your situation with legal counsel. This organization makes its money by collecting it from you by throughing in some legal phrases and threatening to send it to Court.  Never agree to start paying immediately without first getting the details of whom you are speaking to....

Keeps calling and calling about turning papers over to jurisdiction.

I got a call today on my cell from this guy, and he left a voicemail. The number is from Syracuse, NY and I live in Texas. He said - "Hello, my name is Adam Sutherd (sp?), I with RJ Capital. I'm currently attempting to contact (my name), Social Security Number ending in ****. I'm calling in regards to a potential legal matter filed for ________ County. I've been asked to contact you and get a voluntary statement on your behalf. This call with be recorded as my initial contact regarding these legal proceedings. My direct line is 315-410-2070. (My name), you have been notified." Knowing that I have fallen behind with a few fairly small credit card accounts due to loss of job in this economy and being scared to death, I called him back. He informed me that my account has been red flagged for release and a summons was about to be filed for defrauding a creditor due to non-payment. I asked exactly what that meant and he said that the Sheriff or process service agency would come to my home or, more likely, my place of employment and serve me with the summons and I would have to appear in court. When I told him I needed to do my own investigating before I committed to anything, he said he would be transferring me over to the legal department. I said I was interested in settling upon my own findings that the debt was valid, but not under pressure on a 5 minute phone call. He was very polite but none-the-less quite threatening. So, he then informed me that I had to call back before 8 pm and let them know one way or the other or they would file a case in my county. First he said it was already done but then, oh yeah, it's not done yet but if you don't call me back today it will be. And since when is falling behind on your payments considered to be fraud?

people let me explain to you....800 notes removed one of jeff post the IDIOT who is a low life sleazy debt collector lying to us he says that when he paid off his debt that the low life collection agency removed the delinquent from his credit report..the reason why 800 notes removed it because they know its a total lie from a low life debt collector the credit bureau does not remove credit reports from your file when you pay if off it stays on your file for 7 years.

B***s***...bad debt is never removed from a credit report. The report would show as 'collection paid in full' but it would not be removed.

u dumb a***s it obvious if he has ur social # then chances are its legit. i was able to keep myself outta court by asking them for the validation wich i quickly got. very happy to settle out of court. just pay ur bills people.

got the call today...called my family too!!!  "adam" even had the last 4 of my soc!  never had a capitol one checking account (do they even have those?)  calling capitol one now to get to the bottom of this!  I do not recommend calling "adam" back.

Yes this Adam guy keeps calling my home and cell phone number.  Leaving messages.  I refuse to answer the calls because it sounds like BS to me.  I am glad to know that this guy is a debt collector.
