I just got a call today with the same story as all the other posts here.  Verified my phone # and he wanted to verify my address which was totaly wrong, including the state, asked if i could talk to someone who didnt have such a thick accent he put me on to his i guess supervisor, Who also had a thick accent, and even though i had already given the previous person my address he read me the wrong address stated earlier in the conversation, asked if they sent things by check they said no.  They gave me a money approval #BT8542,Security #L211, and his phone # 845-977-4515 to call back and verify if i wanted the money.  I didnt call for awhile and suddenly i get called back by the rep who asked me if i was going to call his supervisor, i told him to put him on the phone, he said nothing so i said take me off your list and he hung up.

So if u get these people dont bother with them unless u want to have some fun, for example if they give there cell # start calling them up saying they won the lottery or have won a grant from the US Treasury XD

FTC

www.ftc.gov

https://www.ftccomplaintassistant.gov/

Not that it necessarily will do any good, because these are off-shore calls spoofing domestic numbers.  Only with the cooperation of the governments involved can our Feds do anything --- as indeed they have in Nigeria.

There are multiple unrelated operators in numerous countries around the world, including Haiti, Jamaica, Viet Nam, Korea, Thailand, and Peru and likely China, Canada, and Pakistan.

A few still come out of Nigeria, but as a young country bent on gaining international respectability, their government has cracked down and most scammers have fled to places like India and Pakistan.

Still in all, it begins with reports from citizenry.  Our feds MAY  not be able to crack down on overseas perps, but they did so somewhat successfully in Nigeria with that Government's cooperation.

But what you CAN be sure of is they CANNOT crack down without the information flow from the citizenry.

So, do not hesitate to file an FTC report.  I am still doing my data collection, but plan on doing that probably within the next 24 hours.  Maybe 48 hours.

Clarifying:  FTC is phone fraud reports; FBI is online fraud reports.  If you got a call but suspect an online source of the information to your phone you can file an advisory report with the FBI as well as a crime report with FTC.  But if it's solely phone, it's the FTC you want.  Another option is to file a local police/sheriff's report and request your local department send a copy of your to the DC location of Interpol.

Non-profit Organization
I got a call from a lady regarding free grant money. I was told that the grant of $8000.00 was from the government for being a good citizen and doing my taxes on time. I was given this phone number 315-834-5111 which I called. I was given a grant confirmation number #BO148 and security code 2009. My call was answered by a lady named Racheal Willson. I was told that I can get the grant via western union, direct deposit or credit or debit card. She was good, had me convinced and I agreed cash via western union. Then she told me that the bank requires a transfer fee of $180.00 which will be donated to a charitable organization. I was told to call her back when Iam ready to make the transfer. Rite after I hang up I told myself that If this was real, then why should I pay any thing at all. Its a SCAM!!!!!. Please don't be fooled by these bi****s. Nothing is free, if it is then its a scam.

I received a call today (Sept 26, 2012) from a man with a thick east Indian accent, who told me that he was from the US Grant Dept and that I was eligeable to receive an $8000.00 Government Grant. As his lips were moving, I knew it was a scam, but thought I would play along to find out more information. The call came up on the caller ID as "unavailable" and I had to keep asking him to repeat himself because I couldn't understand all he was saying. He asked me if I had a bank account or credit card the $8000.00 could be put into electronically, to which I replied, "I have no bank accounts, but I have a Wal-Mart pre-paid Mastercard, will that work?" He then asked me to hold for a minute, got back on the phone and told me the money could be put on the pre-paid Wal-Mart card, gave me a confimation number of JK1287, (but forgot to give me a security code). Then asked me to call the corporate number of the Grant department at 315-834-5111 and give them my confirmation code, after which I would be given further instructions. I then called the number he had given me and gave the girl my confirmation number (her working "name" was Fiona Peterson, employee ID# PJ215E) so she could find my information I had given the guy, who no doubt was in the same building. It didn't matter that I had no security code, she told me, she could work with my confirmation number. She then found my information and told me I would need to western union $160.00 to the Federal Reserve Bank of New York, but I would need to call her so she could tell me what to fill in on the sending money form. I told her I would call her back and we got off the phone and I immediately called Wal-Mart and verified that only Wal-Mart could add money to their pre-paid credit cards..no-one else could. I then called the number back and the same girl answered the phone. I gave her my Confirmation number and was on hold for 7 minutes. When she got back on the line, I asked a few questions which led her to believe I was going to do it. I asked her again as to whether they could put the 8 grand on my pre-paid Wal-Mart card, to which she replied quickly, "Yes sir, that's no problem". I then told her that I talked to Wal-Mart and told her what they had told me. She immediately started to come up with other options, such as the NY federal bank could send it to me via western union. I then asked her what agency she was with, and she said, "The US Treasury Dept". It was then that I let her know how bad the economy is in this country and I don't think it's a good idea to be scamming people, no matter what "class" they fall in and that I had googled the phone number they gave me to call and found they had been doing this for some time. First, she tried to tell me that it had taken her so long to get back on the phone because she had changed my name because she didn't want to scam me. Then she said, "if my decision was not to participate, we had nothing else to talk about and our conversation was over". I told her I still had a few questions, so, unbelievably; she stayed on the line. She then admitted to me it was a scam and she was ashamed of working there knowing she was helping to steal people's hard earned money and she planned on quitting as soon as possible. I told her if she was any kind of honest person, she would quit the job today and find an honest job. She may have been lying, since that was her job to begin with, but she sounded sincere about needing a job and I would like to believe her, but as I said, she is trained to lie. I hope this helps someone.

Dont fall for this scam I was silly enough to try it out and lost 500$ to it the caller will tell you that the first payment will go to a charity and then you will revive 8000$ in grant money into your account if you fall for the first step don't fall for the second one they will tell you to send an amount to them for a security deposit to be able to get you your money report it when they call and don't except money from strangers make sure you look up and do your research on things your not sure about or sound to good to be true.

I received three calls call stating that I qualify for a government grant of $8000.00. The first time I told him I didn't believe him and I hung up. About two hours later I received another call and I faked interest, as he was telling me about the grant the line was disconnected. I then received three hang up call about once every two hours. About two hours after the last hang up call, I changed my voice sounding timid and week and he spoke to me. He once again told me about the grant telling me that once a year the government draws 1500 names and phone numbers to honor with a grant and asked me if I were interested in receiving it. I of course said yes. He then read off my name and address and asked if they were correct. He then told me that there were three was to get my money; by Western Union Money Gram, direct deposit into my checking on savings account or to my money card. I chose Western Union. He then referred me to call this number back for account administration saying that they were the right people to process my grant claim. When I called back from another phone with the number blocked they answered, didn't say anything then hung up. When I called a second time the same person I spoke to the above times asked "Is this (my name)". I responded "Yes" then he hung up. When I called a third time there was no answer. This is a fishing scam. DO NOT give them your banking or cash card information.
