Debt Collector
I received a call yesterday afternoon at 4:15pm from United Processing.  The guy I spoke to seemed anxious to get me to the processing agent "upstairs" to discuss the pending action.  The woman I spoke to was rude and obnoxious stating that she was sending my file to my county for further processing and within an hour and a half I would have police at my door to arrest me on a warrant for the outstanding debt.  The debt she was talking about was from 5 or 6 years ago and was already paid off.  I was afraid of getting arrested but I had all sorts of red flags going off when I pressed for more info and she wouldn't give it to me.  I asked for the address and phone number of her supervisor and she got defiant.  I asked for validation of the debt and she said that she didn't care if I paid or not and just said she was sending it for further action.  I called back and talked to another guy and he acted like he didn't know anything and said he would take a partial payment now and would give me 45 minutes to make some calls.  I made calls alright.  I have a few attorneys in my family so I reached out to them and they all told me the same thing.  Everything they said is a violation of State and Federal laws including the FDCPA (Fair Debt Collections Practices Act).  There is no debtors prison in the US and hasn't been for over a hundred years.  They are using scare tactics because in most cases they think they can get away with it or the statute of limitations are running out on these older debts and are trying to collect in any way possible.  The collection companies pay pennies for these old debts.  I tried to call them this morning and the numbers I had are no longer accepting calls.  A piece of advice I got from one of my family attorneys, download a phone call recording app on your cell phone and record all conversations with debt collectors.  MAKE SURE YOU INFORM them that you are doing so.  It is illegal for them to threaten you with jail time.  These people need to be stopped!

Debt Collector
I just received a message from my supervisor regarding a vm some call and said its urgent. I need to contact Rachel Valetine , ask to speak with Jim Page. When I called the phone number back. Jim stated I have warrant out for me regarding a debt. I filed bankrupty on this  debit. He told me I couldnt because of the documents I signed. I can thank Obama for changing the laws. Then he ask me if I could make a payment today regarding this matter. I told him no. Then he ask if and when I could make a payment. Then he transfer me to someone else. Beth Andrews. I ask if I could make arrangement and what is the file# or case # I could reference. She told me when I ready to make the payment I can call her back direct @ 371-451-4776, then she will be able to provide me with the case numbe and the address information where to send the payment too. She also ask me if I had a debit case or credit card number so she can set up arrangement to take the funds out of my account. I guess the red flagged came up when she was unable to provide me with a case or file# to reference. She would email the receipt after I made the payment.They also mention I had a warrant out for me. I was going to spend 90 days in jail for fraud.... After speaking over this information with my rep that filed my BK. They advised me these are scams dont provide any informaton regarding debit card or banking information to these folks. They are just trying to scam folks out of money.

I just received an identical call to Crystal's from James Allen and his Supervisor John Page. They refused to provide me the documentation to support the debt that they are trying to collect on and tried to get me to provide them a new home address and bank account. They accused me of having closed my bank account and writing bad checks. All false allegations. I had a relative that is an attorney call them and request information from them to no avail and told them to cease and desist.
They also told me that the sheriff was on their way to arrest me and good luck.
Wow!

Just got the same call, left a message on with my son and my office phone. I do not know these people and after reading the information above, I will return the call and request the validation letter. If anyone gets the address, please post it. The guy who left the message was James Allen at 317-395-7151, and he was a little aggressive....well so am I.

The Federal Trade Commission (FTC), the nation's consumer protection agency, is warning consumers to be on the alert for scam artists posing as debt collectors. It may be hard to tell the difference between a legitimate debt collector and a fake one. Sometimes a fake collector may even have some of your personal information, like a bank account number. A caller may be a fake debt collector if he:

is seeking payment on a debt for a loan you do not recognize;
refuses to give you a mailing address or phone number;
asks you for personal financial or sensitive information; or
exerts high pressure to try to scare you into paying, such as threatening to have you arrested or to report you to a law enforcement agency.

If you think that a caller may be a fake debt collector:
Ask the caller for his name, company, street address, and telephone number. Tell the caller that you refuse to discuss any debt until you get a written "validation notice." The notice must include the amount of the debt, the name of the creditor you owe, and your rights under the federal Fair Debt Collection Practices Act.
If a caller refuses to give you all of this information, do not pay! Paying a fake debt collector will not always make them go away. They may make up another debt to try to get more money from you.

Stop speaking with the caller. If you have the caller's address, send a letter demanding that the caller stop contacting you, and keep a copy for your files. By law, real debt collectors must stop calling you if you ask them to in writing.

Do not give the caller personal financial or other sensitive information. Never give out or confirm personal financial or other sensitive information like your bank account, credit card, or Social Security number unless you know whom you're dealing with. Scam artists, like fake debt collectors, can use your information to commit identity theft ? charging your existing credit cards, opening new credit card, checking, or savings accounts, writing fraudulent checks, or taking out loans in your name.

Contact your creditor. If the debt is legitimate ? but you think the collector may not be ? contact your creditor about the calls. Share the information you have about the suspicious calls and find out who, if anyone, the creditor has authorized to collect the debt.

Report the call. Contact the FTC and your state Attorney General's office with information about suspicious callers. Many states have their own debt collection laws in addition to the federal FDCPA. Your Attorney General's office can help you determine your rights under your state's law.>

Hi ,
I had the same kind of call, saying "good luck" at the end.  They said the police were on the way to arrest me.  Crazy! I'm sure it is my debt, but not sure they are sending the police!!!

Debt Collector
Had a message on my answering machine this morning from this number. The connection fuzzed when she was saying her name, but she was with Unified Processing. She claimed there was a complaint about to be filed with me in the state of Oklahoma, and she was concerned I was not aware of the pending allegations. She ended the call saying "Good luck". My best guess is this is over a debt that was cleared something like six years ago when I filed bankruptsy. I think I'll be looking up that lawyer's phone number.
