Debt Collector
I got a call from  205-533-8444., saying they were trying to collect a deb.  The number the gave me to call back was 800-201-3304 also., a Nicole Brown at extension 1003.  It was National Settlement Adjusters company.
The debt they were trying to collect from me was taken care of in 2010.

Thank you everyone for posting this online., I called her back today and told her to send me a certified copy of all information they have obtained from the company trying to collect.

I really doubt that I will hear from them again.

I received the same call from 205.535.8444 and the supposedly agent name was Anthony Ochoa. He wanted to leave a message for my daughter and the number he gave was 323.212.9777. By the way, the location of 205.535.8444 show up on my caller ID as Birmingham,Al. Anyway as we proceeded to discuss that I should have my daughter to call them before legal action is taking against her by the following day by noon. I ask him have they sent out any letters to her and he stated that it has nothing to do with me. I quickly inform him respectfully that I know what mails come to my house and my daughter has not received any mails. He went on to say that Sir I am not about to get into rather or not did she receive mail from our office because we have sent out numbers of mails. So I just told him to go ahead and proceed with what action they feel that they need to do because my daughter is entitle under the Fair Debt Collection Practice Act the name of the creditor and the amount. I also pointed out that the creditor or the collection agency is required under the law to submit a certified letter to show attempt. You can claim that you sent it all you want but you can?t claim that she received it end of conversation. He said good bye and I said bye.

Debt Collector
this company has contacted my husband over a period of a week stating that he ows for a payday loan. they have given him 5 different dates that he took the loan out. when he asked to how they got all his information they told him they did a criminal background check on him. this is how these people are getting your information. i did it just to see what kind of things they can get, they get alot, all the way down to your ssn. they even had my name and said i was on this account also. so when i spoke with them they couldnt keep thier story straight. i went from a contact person to a refferance to a validater for the loan to a co-signer. the last date they gave us that the loan was taken out me and my husband was not married, yes we were together but not married so i asked them if i was on this so called loan to give me my legal name at that time. they couldnt give it to me and stated that thier system automatically updates and that it may have been erased from thier system. dont give them your money. it is a SCAM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

These people called me yesterday claiming to be trying to contact my sister about possible check fraud and asking me to send her a message saying to call them at 1-800-201-3304. They knew the last digits of her SSN and her drivers licence number (not sure if they were the correct ones as i have no idea what her correct ones are). I sent her the info warning her that they might be liars trying to get money from her by committing fraud because I found this page when looking up there # and I gave her a few tips to tell if they were legit (thanks to Alfalfa for the tips). Anyway when she was talking to them and they told her where the debt was from she informed them that she is filing bankruptcy on that and she offered to give them the # for her lawyer so they could confirm. They then said that there was a clause saying she could not file bankruptcy on them and that they looked at her bankruptcy information but it was not in there. My sister told them she had no bank account so they said she should go get a prepaid credit card and then call them to give them the information so it can pay them off. This sounded fishy to us because she never signed anything saying she wouldnt file bankruptcy on the loan and we both know for a fact she did put it in her bankruptcy papers even though they were saying she didnt. So she called the place she originally took the loan from when they informed her that they sold the dept a long time ago so it was not from them and that they could give her the information to the company they sold the dept to but that it sounds like fraud to them because there is no non bankruptcy contract and because what she did was not check fraud (she didnt pay back a loan). The original company then transferred her to there fraud department so they could get the full story along with all the info on this fraud company and apologized to her for what has happened. Good thing she didnt give them any money but I feel sorry for others who fall for this scam. I have suggested to my sister that she report this company to the authorities but I dono if she will (she dont always listen). Also when they called me the # that showed on the caller id was different then the # others on this site have posted (my caller id said the caller was 850-877-7283 National Settle).

they got around $800. from my account - it wasn't even my debt - it was my ex-husband's - but there was none in the first place.  They got me on the phone when I was visiting him in intensive care.  It was horrible!

I told them that they had no right to access my account, but they did it anyway.  I have a tape of the person I had to speak to after that.  What that person said was so insulting and abusive and cruel.  I am still fighting to get my money back.

The Federal Trade Commission (FTC), the nation's consumer protection agency, is warning consumers to be on the alert for scam artists posing as debt collectors. It may be hard to tell the difference between a legitimate debt collector and a fake one. Sometimes a fake collector may even have some of your personal information, like a bank account number. A caller may be a fake debt collector if he:

is seeking payment on a debt for a loan you do not recognize;
refuses to give you a mailing address or phone number;
asks you for personal financial or sensitive information; or
exerts high pressure to try to scare you into paying, such as threatening to have you arrested or to report you to a law enforcement agency.

If you think that a caller may be a fake debt collector:
Ask the caller for his name, company, street address, and telephone number. Tell the caller that you refuse to discuss any debt until you get a written "validation notice." The notice must include the amount of the debt, the name of the creditor you owe, and your rights under the federal Fair Debt Collection Practices Act.
If a caller refuses to give you all of this information, do not pay! Paying a fake debt collector will not always make them go away. They may make up another debt to try to get more money from you.

Stop speaking with the caller. If you have the caller's address, send a letter demanding that the caller stop contacting you, and keep a copy for your files. By law, real debt collectors must stop calling you if you ask them to in writing.

Do not give the caller personal financial or other sensitive information. Never give out or confirm personal financial or other sensitive information like your bank account, credit card, or Social Security number unless you know whom you're dealing with. Scam artists, like fake debt collectors, can use your information to commit identity theft ? charging your existing credit cards, opening new credit card, checking, or savings accounts, writing fraudulent checks, or taking out loans in your name.

Contact your creditor. If the debt is legitimate ? but you think the collector may not be ? contact your creditor about the calls. Share the information you have about the suspicious calls and find out who, if anyone, the creditor has authorized to collect the debt.

Report the call. Contact the FTC and your state Attorney General's office with information about suspicious callers. Many states have their own debt collection laws in addition to the federal FDCPA. Your Attorney General's office can help you determine your rights under your state's law.>

They also called me from 205-533-8444 .. they said to call them back at 800-201-3304.  I am going to have my attorney check this number out and this "so called company" to find out if it really is legitimate. I do not believe they are.  They called out of the clear blue .. out of nowhere .. saying I "bounced a check" to a payday loan company several years ago.  I believe they are a huge scam, and I intend to find out.
