The 331 is a Guadalajara, Jalisco, Mexico  prefix

Cuidado con este numero de telefono. Son estafadores haciendose pasar por un pariente familiar. Te piden que adivines el nombre del pariente quien esta hablando. Di cualquier nombre y te van a contestar con "Si..soy yo". Te van a pedir tu numero de cellular porque segun van a ir visitarte (no tienen intenciones de ir a tu casa. Solo quieren estafarte por medio del telefono). Te van a pedir dinero porque segun tu "pariente" esta en un hospital o detenido(a) en una aduana en Mexico. Piden dinero por medio de Money Gram. Puede ser que ya sepan tu nombre, la cuidad en donde vives y nombres de otros parientes. Aunque tengan conocimiento de esa informacion, no le den mas informacion. Aunque te llamen por tu nombre, niegalo y diles que ese no es tu nombre. Nomas ten en mente de no darles nada de informacion o solo cuelga el telefono. A veces te dicen grocerias cuando no les quiere dar nada de informacion, pero no les hagas caso. Si recibes una llama sospechosa y tiene dudas, comunicase con parientes familiares para verificar si es cierto.

They asked me to wire transfer money to Mexico as the destination because a relative was in trouble over there. Tried calling back but calls won't go through. Automated phone operator said it was an international call, but number shows up as a U.S phone number from Chicago. Possibly using U.S phone sim cards and making calls from Mexico. By the way, all my relatives are fine after verifying with family.

Tengan cuidado con este numero de telefono. Son ladrones tratando de estafar la comunidad hispana desde Mexico. Se dejan pasar como un pariente familiar quien necesita ayuda y dinero, pero solo son ladrones.

This is an international scammer ring. They asked that I wire money to them because a relative was in bad situation in Mexico. They gave me an obvious fake name and asked me to wire the money to Mexico via Money Gram. Tried calling the number back but the call won't go through. They might be using U.S phone sim cards and making calls from Mexico.

Yesterday, I got the EXACT same phone call and it was probably the same guy because he called me "primo" (cousin). He said he was my cousin and that he was flying from Mexico and wanted my cell number so I can pick him up at the airport. This guy knew the city where I lived and other details which can make it sound believable. Well, the next day, this same guy calls my cell saying that he's stuck at Mexicali at Mexican customs and that they didn't want to give him his money and stuff back unless he paid a fee. He said he was going to pay me back as soon as he got here. There was also this lady on the phone who claimed to be a Mexican customs agent. She asked for $600 via Money Gram and gave me a name to add as the recipient. When she gave me that name, I asked her in spanish who the hell was that? She said it was the head honcho at Mexican customs. At this point, everything stank like you know what, so I called family in Mexico to confirm the whereabout of my real cousin. I got word that my cousin was actually at work and that he never made plans to fly here to the U.S. Half an hour later, the same lady called me back asking if I had wired the money. I told her that I wanted to speak to my "cousin" and she handed the phone to the guy pretending to be my cousin. He got on the phone and I told him that I didn't wire the money because his brother wanted to speak to him. As soon as I said that, he hung up and never received a call from them again.

Scammers pretending to be a relative and then asking you to guess which relative is calling. Say any name and they'll say you guessed right. Later, they'll ask you wire money to them because they lost their wallet at an airport, injured at the hospital, etc. Keep your guard up.

I just recived a phone call from number 331-497-9957 Monday, August 29 2011. The person that I spoke to called me "Primo" it means cousin. I told him WTH is this? He keep said he was my cousin. I told him witch one? I have lot's of them. He said guess who? I didn't say anything, and he started telling me he was flying to "Mexicaly", and from there he was flying to "San Francisco". Then he asked me if I had a cell phone because he barrowed a prepaid phone from somebody, and the time was almost out. I told him no. He then said u guys still live on the same street? He then mentioned the street were i live.

2 Reasons why i think these people call:

1)They call you saying they are family. Telling you they are going to visit you, and then wen they supossibly get here they call you back and they tell you they are low on cash and ask you to send them some money..

2)They try to get your cell phone number, and then they send you some bogus email and if you accept the email you get charged. It will probably go to one of there accounts they set up for that.

Personaly I wouldn't worry about it. Hope this info helps out.

My mother got a call from thi 3314979957 and 3314815115 today around 10:15 stating she was her niece, she asked my mother to guess her name, my mother guessed any name and she agreed, she wanted to get my mothers cell phone number because she would be arriving tomorrow from Arizona.  My mother got a little concern and hung up, she has received about 10 calls in less than an hour.  I got on line to research  the number and came accross this page.  Thanks for the info

i just received a call from her but only thing she said was "bueno, hello como estas" . any update on the news,

This woman called my dad at 11 Am last night. Asking her to guess her name. My dad guess my cousins name and the woman agreed. The woman then stated she was coming to see us and would arrive tomorrow. She then gave us our location and said she would be arriving but needed my fathers cell phone number. My dad said he didn't have  one and so proceeded to give him my mom's. We just received a 4 phone call from her stating she is a relative from mexico and is in mexicali .. I think I should proceed in opening a case in the police department since they now know my mothers cell phone number. What city my father works at, what time he leaves the house and what city we live in..
