This email from "Kefelegn Sahle" has been making the rounds for a while. Here's the thing. (1) Lives in Ethiopia, but goes to University, which isn't cheap in any country of the world (2) Where did he get the email address' he's writing to? Sounds too much like a Nigerian scam.

From what I've read about free laptop deals, they're real (that is, the ones that aren't outright scams) but loaded with many gotchas so that the percentage of people who try to get one and actually end up getting one is low. The gotchas may involve having to buy other widgets, or services that bill you every month (and which may be difficult to unsubscribe from) which may even be part of scammy deals like you have take a survey and authorization to bill is buried in the fine print that won't be revealed to you and you're not going to know until your credit card gets hit. Sure, some get free laptops but they're paid by all the rest of you who tried and failed. There's no free lunch - money to buy those free laptops have to come from *somewhere* so where do you think it's coming from? The laptop givers are making money at this game - if not, they'd stop running the game. You can gamble on getting a free laptop but remember most fail.
