received similar voicemail just a while ago from the same 347-390-0788 and tried the (800) 366-4484 to report - but nobody picked up - the automated system was listing a long list of options.

Same thing. Indian guy with an accent claiming to be with the IRS (used an American name) said they have done an audit on us and we owed taxes. Absolutely ridiculous story (similar to the ones posted here)! Couldn't these idiots come up with a least a half way believable story? If they are going to try and defraud people, at least have a little ingenuity?..

I received a call from the same # (347) 390-0788 and the same skit. I asked him (Indian Accent guy trying hard to do an American one) what I was I being charged for and he read me the avidavit and told me NOT to interrupt. Then he proceeded to tell me that there has been a bench warrant out in my name and that I will be arrested at 10AM today. I played along and asked him what i can do to avoid being arrested and he said that if I paid the $3000 in full then he can close the case out. I told him that I didnt have that much in my bank. He asked me then how much do you have (REALLY?? Do you think IRS would ask that?). He asked if i can get the funds together and I said yes, please let me. haha. He said well... I will have to be on the ph with him while I try to get the $$. I put him on hold for (25 mins) and called IRS (800) 829-1040. IRS rep said that it was definitely a FRAUD/SCAM and that it was good that I didnt pay and she gave me 2 agencies to contact to report it: (800) 366-4484 Treasury Inspector General Hotline and Federal Trade Commission; FTC.gov and report it under IRS Tele Scam.

I told my co-workers about this and one of them called them back with a blocked # and it did not go through. Then she called without blocking her # and it went through. She said that she was my Attorney and that she was calling to discuss the case. The guy said Really?. And then said that how much is the client paying you coz if she can get the client to pay the $3000 then he would give the attorney a cut of that $$. She could hear people laughing at the background. And when she said that she was reporting it to the Police, they hung up

Things to look out for to determine it is a SCAM:
* If they tell you to call a private ph # and not the (800) ph # for IRS
* If they ask for your ph # when you call them back and NOT your Social Security Number (BUT do not give that to them either) IRS does not have cases under ph #'s but under SSN
* If they tell you that they sent numerous letters but no one was home to sign for it ... Well the USPS will leave a signature required form for you to go to the Post Office to sign and claim the certified mail
* If they ask you then how much do you have in the bank (IRS would not care but they will tell you this is what is owed and you haver to pay this within a certain period)
* If they say that you will have to be on the ph with them while you get the $$ .. IRS does not do this either
* If they tell you that you will be arrested TODAY and they sent you letters ONLY a month ago ... Really? since when did they start arresting people only after a few weeks of sending a correspondence letter?

I had two voice mail whin I came home from same number 3473900788. One at 9:42 am and second at 4:12 pm that he is calling from IRS ana a law suit is filed against me so call as soon as possible, don't disregard this message. Second time he stated his name as Joseph and calling from IRS. This is extremely time sensitive issue so call as soon as possible, Almost same message except he stated name in second voice mail.

We got a call from this number (347-390-0788).  The caller ID identified the number as "Unavailable".  Someone left a message claiming to be from the IRS, and said the IRS had just filed a lawsuit against us, asking us to call back.  He said it was "time-sensitive" to do so.  In our case, the caller did not have an Indian accent, but a Bronx/NYC accent trying somewhat poorly to fake a Midwestern accent.  Since 347 is a NYC area code, that fits with the accent.

I got a call from 347-390-0788 and left a message saying this was from IRS and that I should call them as soon as possible since there was a lawsuit against me. The caller ID showing the owner number as G.W. Financial. I called them back and a guy with Indian accent picked up. He asked for my name and phone number. I made a mistake by giving my name and phone number. Then immediately he said there was a lawsuit against that I should care of it today sending some money or I will be arrested. When I mentioned that he did not sound like someone from IRS, and his name was showing G.W. Financial, then he got nervous and started arguing. When I said that he was a criminal, he said he was going to send a police tomorrow to arrest me and my wife and take my passport and then hang up :)

Got a similar call from 347-390-0079. The voice mail was left by an automated system by a person with strong Indian accent. I am having my CPA call the IRS directly to investigate. I know IRS sends a letter on all tax related issues before calling.
