I have been having the same issue with these people and i actually believed them and gave them money not all of it but a portion and when i called back to make my next payment their phone was disconnected and i couldnt get ahold of them. Im only twenty years old and they are threatening me and all this ya they are real tough threatening a kid pretty much and i didnt know what to do because he gave me only two hours to come up with 489 dollars. My father in law said that they cant legally send someone to your house the next day to arrest you. Not even the IRS does that when you owe them money.

Oh my God! this guy just called me from 347-606-4351 saying he wanted me to pay him 200 dollars within the hour or I was gonna be arrested. I told him I would have to call my bank because I don't recall getting a loan. He got angry and said the officers would be at my house to arrest me. I called the BBB and they said it was a scam and to not give out any information. CRAZY MAN!!

My caller called from 347-606-4351 but it was the same harassing call as stated above.  An Officer Michael Jones (who had a very strong Indian accent) from Anderson Law Firm called me several times.  When I called back he had my social security number and threatened me.  In his phone message he said "only God can help you if you try to run away from us" and on the phone he stated that I had taken out a payday loan that was not returned.  I know I have not done so but I am really angry.  When I pressured him to tell me when I had gotten this loan and how much this supposed loan was for he told me that I should expect the law suit and fraud investigation and hung up.

This number has been calling me for a few days so I googled the numbers. I t said that they were a scam. We called them back to see what they wanted and they said they were busy and for us to call them back in a few minutes. They told me that it was for a lawsuit that had been filed against me but would not give me details when asked.

We are being harrased by this "company" . This is a complete fraud. Do not give any information. As soon as my husband threatened to call the police and report them for impersonating police officers and law offices, they hung up, and tried to say that he hung up when they called back. Again, this is a complete fraud and we are reporting them for harrasment. Anyone else should do the same, the more who turn them in , the better chance we have to stop these scams and help the ones who may fall for it.

My kind of man there, Jack!  Good going and keep up the excellent work!

This is what I did:  I got the same call from the same number and people.  I answered with a huge blow of a whistle into the phone.  Love it - haven't heard from them since!

I got a call from a similar number and answered with "thank you for calling.  You have now reached the top 15 of the most wanted internet scam list".  We will be in touch with you soon".  Haven't heard from them either!

Received a call from a Officer Daniel Jones from the Anderson law Firm (347) 606-1866 stating he was calling about a legal matter. Person on the line had a very heavy Indian Iranian accent.

Prior to that received a call from Eric Johnson at (951) 489-0237 staing it was in reference to a legal matter.  He stated I owed them money and I was in default of a Payday loan.  I knew this was not true so it did not really bother me.  The scary part came when Threats were made against me, my job and also said my Social Security number would be put on high alert.

These Indian Iranian people were very nasty and rude and used profanity when I wouldn't give them any additional information and when I told them they must have the wrong person.

I know this must be a scam by their approach and by the way they attempted to scare me.

I have reported this to my job, the BBB and to the local police.

I also plan to change my phone number if they keep calling.

For at least the last four years, possibly longer, a group has been calling former payday loan applicants advising them that they have defrauded a bank and are now being sued for non-payment of a loan.  The callers will claim to be calling on behalf of an attorney's office (name varies), the Dept. of Law and Investigation, ACS, or other similar combinations below:

United Legal Processing Division
Midline Marketing
Crime Monitoring Services
Monetary Crime Division
U.S. National Bank
Attorney General?s Office (usually in California)
American Legal Services
Affidavit Consolidation Services (ACS)

You will be threatened with arrest, a costly trial and possibly worse.  In no shape, way or form can you be arrested for non-payment on a consumer debt.  Do not believe these threats, as they are without merit and cannot be carried out in the manner they allege.

Who are they?

In the past when pressed by law enforcement for an address, the callers have provided the following information:

David Morgan and Associates
Morgan & Associates
Morgan Associates
954-727-8481
1155 Northwest 85th Street
Wintergarden, Florida  33150
(Address is likely invalid)

The collector's MO matches a once legit collections agency called Ellis Crosby & Associates.  Here are some links on them:

http://www.budhibbs.com/collectorpages/ellis_crosby_and_associates.htm
http://www.budhibbs.com/collectorpages/EllisCrosbyJudgment.pdf

They have been previously fined over $1.3 million for various violations.  They have been known to use phone banks in India to make their calls, which more or less coincides with the difficult to understand accent many of us detect when we are contacted.

The last time this group went by any "official" name was back in 2008:

Ellis Crosby & Associates / Douglas & Morgan Associates
4494 Southside Boulevard Suite #200
Jacksonville Florida 32216
Phone:  800-928-3536 / (904) 928-3536
(Address is likely invalid)

There are NUMEROUS consumer alerts out against this group of individuals:

Missouri:
On July 15th, 2010 a Public Awareness Bulletin was sent out by Missouri Information Analysis Center.

"..received reports from individuals in Ohio and Illinois reference suspicious telephone calls they received. In both instances, the callers are reporting that a voicemail is received from a man, with a Middle Eastern accent, identifying himself as an officer working with the Financial Crimes Unit.  The message indicates that the reason for the call concerns a loan made by the receiver or someone in the receiver's family. The voicemail requests that a return call be made and a telephone number is provided. When a return call is made, the caller is asked to provide personal identifying information such as their date of birth and social security number.

Reports indicate that the calls are frequent and persistent and that they even threaten arrest or legal action if information or money is not provided. It appears that the individuals making these calls may have access to some records connecting individuals and their relatives.  Missouri does not have a Financial Crimes Unit and all indications are that this is a fictitious agency. If you receive a similar phone call, please be advised that it is a scam and please contact your local law enforcement agency or the Missouri Information Analysis Center at 866-362-6422."

Bottom line:

Do not supply the callers with any additional information.  Inform them you have reported them to law enforcement and hang up.  If you haven't already, go ahead and report the calls to local law enforcement, your state's Attorney General and beyond.  Look up the local Secret Service branch's information in your area and get in contact with an agent there.

If you ever applied for a cash advance online, your information is out there.
Possible sources for the breach of your privacy are:

* The scammers obtained your information from Teletrack - a reporting agency used by many cash advance lenders to determine their risk lending to you.  The service is able to tell cash advance lenders if you have existing loans with other companies, for example.  Many state laws prohibit borrowers from having more than two cash advances out at the same time.

* The scammers created their own fake payday loan application site.  People looking for a cash advance went to the site and applied, thus freely providing the scammers with their information for malicious use at a later time.

* The scammers were able to get into the database(s) of cash advance lenders - probable targets being Sonic Payday and Cashnet USA.

How to protect yourself:

* Inform your employer.  You are likely getting calls at home and/or at work, so make sure your employer is aware the calls are part of a scam and to not take them seriously.  Advise the callers that they are no longer allowed to call you at work.  If they continue to call, document the date and time of the calls you received.  Save voice mails left if at all possible.

* Change your number(s).  For some this may not be an option, for others a one-time number change can be done free of charge.

Be advised - any references you listed on your payday loan application will be contacted.  Let those people know that this is a scam, and they can disregard.

* Use Google Voice.  Google Voice is a great replacement voice mail system for just about any phone number you use.  Messages can be transcribed and voice mail recordings can be saved as mp3 files.

Pro Tip - call the scammers with a Google Voice number before turning off your old phone numbers.  Make sure when you call you identify yourself so they can start up their script.  At any point after they have your information pulled up just hang up.  They will then start religiously calling your Google Voice number.  At this point, you are free to change your regular phone number(s) and enjoy not having these people ever call you again.  (And laugh at the fact these people are basically talking to a brick wall several times a day)

The scammers change their numbers frequently.  Law enforcement used to think it was because the callers ran out of minutes on their prepaid wireless accounts or they were shuttered due to fraud, but now they understand it's simply to evade detection by savvy consumers online.  With the proliferation of VoIP, it's even easier for the crooks to stay a couple of steps ahead of law enforcement.  Below is just a sampling of the 30+ numbers that have been used in recent memory.

VERY interesting #, your 347-468-9430, I just got another call from an E. Indian male [347-468-9438] offering a $4,852.32 US Government Grant, the big catch is one has to be willing to say "adios" to $149 via Western Union to India.. They spelled my surname and street address the same incorrect way the E. Indian telemarketers do, so they're all interconnected over there.

How do we know these calls come from India? Earlier today it was 4:03 p.m. Pacific Time. I asked the telemarketer "what time it was where you are calling from?" Answer - 4:30 as in a.m., someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I read that during our summer part of India is 12.5 hours ahead of Pacific Time.

  At 5:11 p.m. PT Mr. US Gov't Grants Dept said the DC time was 7:11 p.m. - WRONG - U R busted -it's 8:11 p.m.

An earlier cubicle baboon [kudos to JHM!!!!] trying to scam me on a Gov't Grant swore up and down I would not lose any $, would not have to pay $ upfront before grant $ arrives. My response, "if this is a scam do you mind if Mr. Tomahawk pays you a [friendly] visit? No problem, I welcome the visit!"

PLEASE DON'T FALL FOR THEIR PAYDAY LOAN OR GOVERNMENT GRANT SCAMS - we gotta dry up the $$ spigot.

Prank Call
These criminals have been calling me and my husband days and nights. They are driving me crazy to a point that I'll do anything to stop these harassment. I've found a post from this website in which the poster has some brilliant ideas to beat them in their own game. They use cheap indian monkeys to call us and we'll "ask" the general public in US to "stop" them. I wonder what will happen if I post a ads in Craiglist about giving away free big screen TV or video game with their return numbers (not the fake caller ID number!)

-- Beginning quote --
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I received multiple phone messages on my business phone from both a female and a male with identical scripts in very broken english with thick, almost unintelligble accents.

I wasn't born yesterday--and because these people are scam artists AND irritating me when I have real work to get done--I took a few moments out of my day to screw with them.

First, I called them back and asked them if they needed directions to the memorial service or the funeral showing.  The male on the other end said "I do not understand what you saying" (very broken english, thick accent).  I then asked, "Sir, what exactly was your relationship with the deceased?  Because the memorial is open to everyone, but the viewing of the body is for family only."  He started in with "you must relay a legal message to XXXXX XXXXXX" (my name X'd out for privacy purposes).  I told him that would be very difficult, considering XXXXX XXXXXX passed away six days ago, and my job was just to direct people on how to get to the memorial service.  He stuttered a bit, then said "sorry to bother you" and hung up.

Oh no, I wasn't done there.  I am just WAAAY too creative not to get even with these idiots even more.  I then went online and filled out every "have an agent contact me" scam I could find.  I entered their name (John Jackson) and their phone number (661-532-8529) for free insurance quotes, free daily horoscopes by phone, free debt relief help, free home improvement memberships, etc.  Hopefully that will cause THEIR phone to ring off the hook with telemarketing  scum and scammers.

But wait, there's more.  I couldn't just hope they would get lots of calls, I had to make sure of it.  So I signed into Craig's List for one of the biggest cities (most populated) that I know of.  I listed an ad stating that I was in search of a payday type of loan, and for anyone in that business to call me and help me through the process.  Again, I listed his name & number.

Then I went into my "spam" folder in my email and found any email that said something to the effect of "you inherited large sums of money from Nigeria" (as an example) and responded to those emails with his name and phone number as well.

Yes, it all is a little bit evil of me, but because these guys arn't in the U.S., I really don't think that our law enforcement is going to be able to do anything about it other than stick it in a file.  If I come up with any more creative ideas to get even, I will definitely come back and post again so that you all might have some of the same fun!

Good luck everybody and absolutely do not give these guys any of your personal information, much less your hard earned money.
