Scam got the exact message from 4 different numbers

This number is now texting FREE $20 Wal-Mart gift cards with free $50 gas cards, out of Clearwater, Fl, person that answers the toll free (so far there are two) is JOSE.  I have a PRE_PAID cell, used only for emergencies, family and three friends have the number, never give it out, not even my work has the number, and on the National Cell NO CALL list and has been for years.  When I called the toll free number, from landline, he IDed himself as Jose, I asked how he got my prepaid cell number, he RUDELY HUNG UP.  Called back, this time got a bit more info, found out he IDs as Regions Regional or something like that (very strong accent making it difficult to understand, big clue there), some promo that would cost me just $2 to receive the cards.. RIIIIGHT.. screamed SCAM.  That text was received on the 18th of August, while I am reporting this scam to my provider, another text comes in, using a different sending number and a different toll free call back number, same text message, called same JOSE answered,  informed him what he is doing is illegal and has been reported.  My daughter who uses a different provided go the exact same scam text too.
These are scams, you learn to recognize them, with them they collect personal info that is then used to promote further scams or ID theft.  I didn't get the 'free laptop' message, but since it's the same number, can guess no one will be seeing any free laptops and anything they paid for 'processing' is lost.  Nice profit the jerk makes.. report it, report it, report it.. to your providers, to Scam sites to the No Call site if you are on the lists, if not get on the lists and still report these things, to your local and other states' AGs offices.The text messages cost you money and minutes, then if you pay anything you're out of that as well.

New tactic? I haven't visited any site, my number is on Do-Not-Call so why the text? Scama-rama time!

If your number is on the the do not call list - file a complaint. I'm going to find the law regarding this and maybe there is a lawyer out there willing to make a class action suit against these a**holes. They are constantly texting my PREPAID cell and I have no way to block them!

Could you provide some information as to how you found out it was from buy.com? I'd like to get started on my own little investigation.

Just talked to Verizon and was told that now when you create an account with certain companies like buy.com when you enter in your phone number it (in the fine print) signs you up for these premium texts and it charges your cell bill 9.99 a month.  They can block this at your request.  Find out which site tricked you and never do business with them again.  I used buy.com instead of Amazon 1 time and after much research found out it was them and I will NEVER buy from them again

Got a text messege about free F------ laptop, All there doing is costing people money. Can't somebody do something about this please.

they need to speak more clearly than they do and slower so some people can understand them better  and answer the phone when they want you to call them back, but other than that it was fine.

I got a text message saying you were giving away laptops. I would like to have one if possible.

These people keep sending me texts about free laptops. Each text they send me costs me. I'd love to find out who they are so I can cost them some money.

I am recieving text messages from 347-925-6722 regarding a laptop that doesn't exsit!!

This one sent several text messages to my pre-paid cell phone, a number I NEVER give out and that's been on the NATIONAL NO CALL List for years..  I called the 1-877-340-7201 number to find out who and how they got my number, some guy with a STRONG accent says his name is JOSE.  When I asked how he got my number he rudely hung up.  That message was sent on the 18th of August.  Called the number back..This time I asked what the promotion was, and who they were, was difficult to understand but sounded like Regions Regional out of Clearwater, Fl.  This is a scam, of course, the texts read Free $20 gift card from Wal-Mart and free $50 gas card.  Wrong, he is expecting you to pay, $2 for this one, to receive the cards.  When I asked how he got my number, he once again RUDELY hung up.Got another one as I was reporting it to my cell provider, different phone number and, different toll free call back, SAME person.  I informed mr. Jose that what he was doing is illegal and a known scam and he had been reported.  Gave the sending numbers to my provider as well as the toll free for their investigations.  I had the thought my providers' data base had been compromised, but my daughter who uses a different provided got the same text though the toll frees and sending numbers were different, same text message.  Am reporting this to the no call, as well as both state AGs.  This cost us our minutes as well as fund for those minutes.  I don't use my cell enough to warrant a monthly charge, have it for emergencies only and only turned mine on today to check for a stored phone number, otherwise it would have been awhile before I found those on there.  REALLY ticked off about it, what good is the no call if these things still manage to get through.  Am thinking it's something along the lines of a page full of numbers, area codes and starting with what ever prefix and they do an auto call out sending the messages without knowing who the number belongs to.  BIG hint, they say "thank you for visiting our website", and since there was no ID of the sender, and I KNOW that I never visited the website and nor do I ever use the cell number for ANY site, screams SCAM!!
Do the math, if it auto sends 1,000 messages and just 200 people respond, at $2 a response, that's $400.00.  AND there's no guarantee you'll get the gift cards, and guess what, he'll want personal information.. nope, too much ID theft going on as it is.  So, beware of scams like these, don't use the cell to call the toll free if you can avoid it, gather as much info as you can from the 'rep', then report it to your provider, here, no call if you're on it, everywhere you can..
I get several scams a day in my email, always to unknown recipient, and usually the Nigerian, lottery, or the 'the guy died leaving no family' scams.
Sorry so long, but really ticked over this.
