After ignoring the calls for weeks, I finally decided to answer. The caller asked for me by name. I identified myself, and then he asked me not to hang up until after I had listened to what he had to say. Would I be willing to donate 10, 20, 30 dollars or more and I'd get a sticker to put in my car window? (No tickets, perhaps?) I listened politely and then asked if he was a police officer. A pause and then No. If they need the money so badly, I asked, why don' the police beg for themselves? I declined and hung up. I know from talking to police officers I know, both friends and family, that this is a great scam. I hope they don't call back. Why is this practice legal? Are the Attorneys General of the various states on this?

I've had a couple of calls from this organization, and had that freaky experience of it pausing after my comments and seeming like it was muting. I finally realized that I was being guided through an 'interview' with a smart computer program that listens to what you say and cues in the recorded response that fits your comment.  We say very predictable things to the questions so it is easy to do. I noticed that if I answered something more off the wall the 'guy' would say "I'm sorry, I didn't get that" in exactly the same words and tone. It sounded so real it took me awhile to realize I was talking to a recording.
Last night the caller asked for me and the voice sounded somewhat mechanical, so when 'he' started his spiel, I broke in, saying 'What did you say your name was again?' and the voice instantly switched to a canned sounding, 'Please don't hang up!" So I did. I could be wrong, but my strong gut feeling is that you may not be talking to a person...

I got a call from this number on April 18. 2011 at 7:29 PM. Only the number showed up on caller ID. I was not home when they called nor did they leave a message or anything. If they are FOP like others are saying, they have called me before each time using a different number and even a different area code. They are a royal pain in the rear. A real nuisance of a bunch.

This phone number is calling to try to SCAM money for the WA Fraternal Order of Police. I have NOT called the number, nor will I.  It directs you to a customer service department that can answer questions using potentially manipulative techniques, help you waste your donation on fundraising fees, or anything else related to the FOP getting a small fraction of your donation, 12% to 27% Some fundraiser's pocket as much as 73% to 90% and up. Also, there’s information on www.badgefraud.org on the massive numbers of warnings put out by FOP Lodges that do not use so called professional fundraisers and Real Police and Sheriff and Fire Departments. But you can contact them there with any questions or requests.

BadgeFraud (dot) org is doing a lot of really great things for POLICE OFFICERS FAMILIES and the people that post are NOT trying to raise money, they are trying to protect the money of the people who protect us, and that is something very good.

I have had previous contact with this type of predatory solicitor in another state. They use police and fire association names. The police/fire Assns. sometimes hire fundraising groups but do not realize the tactics being used. I have tried to answer the phone but they hang up after I say hello. Have no idea why. Considering calling the WA Attorney General. Do not call list is no help.

I answer the phone and when the start calling I tell them as nicely as I can that I thank them for waisting my time having to sit there and listen to them. And than I them to remove my number from their contact list or they will have the biggest lawsuit against that will regret ever starting a soliciting company and they usually don't call back.

Okay, first off, The Fraternal Order of Police is a kind of Lodge of sorts.  It is a club that acts a bit more like a police union that campaigns for police officers rights in DC as well as for some other activities locally and can provide legal protection to officers that are in need.  But it is basically a club like the Elks Lodge.  I myself, got several phone calls from this organizations representatives, usually when I'm out working.  One time I talked to them a little because of all of the scams that have been occuring lately using the name of your local police, fire or military service.  They are a telemarketing compay hired on the WA FOP's behalf (so says the telemarketers).

I don't trust them and I am a police officer (truth, not pretending about that either).  If you want to donate to your local FOP or even your local police or fire department contact them directly.  The website is found in several postings and you can find the address for your department in the phone book or website.  If they won't take your donation themselves, they usually would have a charity that they represent or endorse that they will encourage you to donate to.

Remember to just be safe.  If it sounds too good to be true it probably is.

PS:  I'm kind of offended that they would ask for the woman of the house (I'm single) when I answered the call.  It is a bit suspicious to me, I am just as willing to donate to a worthy cause as anyone would be.  But they skip me for what they may think is an easier targert I'm guessing.

I told them there was no lady of the house and that I wanted them to stop calling.  They said they will remove my number.  We'll see.  Give it a try if you can get someone to answer.

I too am receiving calls from WA FOP from this number and 3 or 4 other numbers.  Since I have never donated, have caller ID and don't talk to anyone I don't know, plus they never leave a message - I just ignore them.  Am moving in a couple months and will no longer have a land line - end of problem!

I'm getting multiple calls every day, they don't leave messages. 547-1903, 334-6440, multiples of "unknown name" and "unknown numbers" and 302-752-1422 all numbers with "unknown name."
I've just started paying attention. There have been other numbers too that included FOP with the number.  I'm getting them more and more often, I never answer.
For quite some time name FOP would be included with the numbers, now I never see that acronym with their incoming calls. So be it, let them wast their time.   Pick-up the phone then hang up, turn off the ringer and check my messages. I have more patience than most.

Asking for someone who doesn't live here- Obviously a solicitor of funds, or some other tele-marketer.
My number has been listed on the national registry as "no call" for several years. Why do they keep doing it anyway??

These guys call everyday with no response when you pick up. Continually blocking their numbers, but they come up with a new every few days. Will be as persistent as they and continue to block new numbers. My real question, isn't it illegal to harass hundreds of people by persistently calling them when they make efforts to stop the calls. How can the police say ignore them, shouldn't they pursue the harassers? How can it be legal to carry on these activities for, in my case, about two years? Jay walk at lunch hour and the police apprehend and fine you, but harassers of hundreds they ignore. "From there to here, and here to there, funny things are everywhere."

I received the call from them last October a day after the Seattle officer was shot and killed.  They pressed hard for my bank account info so they could do a direct transfer.  I told them no.  They then pressed for my CC number.  I told them no again.  Thinking it may not be legit; I told them I would donate 20 dollars by mail only.  That's when I finally realized it was a scam. They man on the line told me that they would be happy to accept my donation by mail but please add 3.00 and to the check to cover processing.   I had a chuckle and said sure.   Later that night and the next day, Seattle police were on the TV and radio stations telling people not to donate to these causes.   A month later, I finally received the paperwork in the mail and straight to the trash it went.  Another month, another statement, and straight to the trash.  Now these buggers are sometimes calling me twice a day (always with caller ID as WA FOP).  It's annoying but I just ignore it.

Most of the calls you get asking for donations to support a police charity are fake.  They take 60-95% of every donation for expenses.  They pay themselves very well and give very little to the charity.  If you want to donate to the police find their non-emergency phone number in the phone book.  Call and ask them where to send a check.

As for me, I never give money to any group that calls my telepone and asks for donations.  No Exceptions.

I agree that this is a scam- Fraternal Order of Police or not! My number is unlisted yet they have several phone numbers that come through- with various different CID names. for example 206-866-1938 listed as FOP and unknown, 206-866-1925 same thing.. 253-275-3619, 206-275-3604 and now this one- 360-547-1903.. they never leave a message just call constantly! I dont trust anyone asking for donations over the phone- the fact that they have so many different phone numbers in different area codes make me suspicious.. also agree with Pagan about Snow commenting under every phone number they have called me from stating how this is a stand-up organization and what a wonderful job the police do.. My brother is a police officer and so is my nephew and they say to avoid these "donation" tactics.
BEWARE!
