Just got a text asking about my car I have for sale in Hemmings Motor News.  Haven't replied.  After reading these posts, I don't think I will reply.  Thanks for reporting such things, everybody!

I just got a call from (386)385-4221 wanting to buy my vehicle and offered to pay the full amount and wanted  me to give them a Pay Pal email account and my full name.  They claim that they are on a off shore rig and has an agent  who will pick it upon on their behalf. The misspelled words did not help the matter. A scammer for sure.

SCAM, Beware of this person. I got the same message about paying more for a car I have for sale. They sent two fake Paypal emails. There were a few things wrong with the emails that I caught. I logged onto Paypal to check my account and there was nothing there. I called Paypal to let them know what was going on and they had me forward the emails without changing anything on it to: spoof@paypal.com They responded back that it was a fake email and that they will look into it. I also forwarded them the phone number as well.
They texted me back asking if I got the email yet. I told them there's nothing in my Paypal account sorry. He replied back, "Do you check you email yet?" He doesn't get it yet.

Scammer texted me on the car today with the Paypal scam.

Standard PayPal scam.  I had a vehicle listed for sell with my text information.  

They ask if your (Make | Model | Price | Your location) is still for sale, then they say something to the effect that they are working offshore or across the country or are too busy and they want your verified PayPal information to send payment--as they are satisfied with the condition of the vehicle per the advertisement online that you posted.

Same deal, PayPal for my SUV. Told him I was a cop and he never replied again.

Hi, I just got a text late last night from 323 592 9071 also - my ad is only on Auto Trader.  Wanted to verify the condition but then said he would use Pay Pal "very secure" blah blah blah.  Told him in person transactions only.  I've seen similar texts from other numbers for other things for sale (item on Craigs List, cars.com, etc) and know better than to take any Pay Pal buyers!

I just received a similar text in response to a car I had on Craigslist. I responded just saying not interested.

I received the same message with the same scam...I'm trying to sell my car, he offered me full price without seeing the car, asked for my Paypal info and told me his agent would pick up the car the next day. Of course I knew there was some kind of scam, but I couldn't figure out how he could scam with just my name and Paypal email.
My guess it that he transfers the funds to your Paypal account initially, but the funds are probably pending. Then his "agent" comes to pick up your car. Once the agent and your car are gone, he reverses the Paypal funds. So he would steal your car without paying. That's the only way I can see this scam working. Glad most people are too wise for this loser. Hope the elderly are just as wise.

Got the same msg on my Craigslist ad, said he is on a rig wanted my full name, address and Paypal information.  Not going to happen.  Who do I report this to, anyone know?

Received a text early this morning from this person wanting to buy my Van, offering 500.00 more than I was asking. Stated that he was on that infamous Rig that everyone is referring to. Wanted paypal and address so that his agent could come pick the van up. Received the same kind of text about a month ago from(323) 592-9071 with the same information, stated that he put the money in my paypal account with extra money for the agents fees and instructed me to follow the paypal directions and to send 1800.00 to his agent via western union and once his agent receives the money paypal will release the money to your account.  Glad I googled this phone number because it verified what I was thinking anyway. My add was on Autotrader.com

he texted our cell phone and asked if truck was still available.... would pay full purchase price.... wanted to use paypal.... would barely provide us information....said he was on offshore drill rig.... we questioned why he would dare to pay 30,000 for a truck sight unseen... I am not participating in any way with this guy... way too fishy for me!!!

Well, seems I am not alone. I received an offer for more of my for sale prize. The txt estate that person was out, overseas. I txt back do not worry I am not in rush, I am in a RIG too. :)

Damn scammer! Don't give him any info, the stories I've read on this page is the exact thing he's done to me. What burns me the most is this low life acting like he's in our military....what an idiot well didnt fall for it and hopefully this helps someone too!

I recevied a text also. He is offshore on a RIG and his agent will pick up the car. Robert wanted me to set up a paypal account with my full name and address. I told him I am not doing that. Wow I am happy I looked up the number.

SCAM ATTEMPT - DO NOT REPLY TO PHONE NUMBER, TEXT MESSAGE, ETC.!!  Received text message from this number about a newly listed Cars.com advertisement, asking if the car was still for sale.  I've received other texts like this in the past from other numbers... also don't reply to (469)795-7237... received a text from that number within 1 hour after this (386)385-4221 number with a very similar message.

Have my vehicle on Craigslist and carsforsale.com.  He sent me a text so he must be lurking on carsforsale.com because I didnt leave my number on craigslist.  Glad I googled the phone number before I responded.
