This is bullsh!t.  I pay my cable company extra money a month to keep my number off the radar.  What a ripoff!

They said they're from the Mercury News but the SJMN does not confirm it so either they're a third party solicitator or a telemarketing firm purposely used by the SJ Mercury News to get business. The price is the same as if you buy it from the vending except they give you free delivery. Sad for me was, I rejected the offer one time but still got the news in the email....Never will I subscribe to them again if I want newspaper in the future.

I've received about 8 calls from this number today while I was near the phone, could be 2 to 3 times that many since I've been out of the office most of day, sometimes within 3 minutes of each other.

called back. message says leave a number to be taken off the list, but the it says voicemail box is full.

I have received multiple calls in one day from this number on my land line. I set up the land line in January. I ignore it most of the time, but if I do pick up there is no one there. Reverse call noted it was from Pacific Bell.......do they even exist anymore??????

For the last three days I have been receiving calls from this number. If it was just once a day, I wouldn't be as upset. But they call between 6-10 times Per Day, starting around 8am till about 9-10 pm. Three days of harassment.

I'm posting now because the exact same thing happened to me last year, around the same time. That time the harassing calls lasted about two weeks, just constant spam of my phone.

I researched the number last year, and discovered it was the Mercury News. A poster here named James, who supposedly worked for the company, posted here saying to simply add your number to a "Do Not Call" list.
I followed his advice and did so.

And here we are, exactly a year later, and the harassment begins anew. It's been 3 days. I do not want another two weeks of this.

If this is the way the Mercury News chooses to treat people, I hope they go out of business. I have never had a subscription from them, and, as I do not live in San Jose, never will. But even if I were to move there, considering this type of harassment, I would never even consider them.

Just got multiple phone calls this evening. Not sure how they got my number, seeing as I just got this phone number a few weeks ago with a new phone.

Received a call from 408-535-0182 on 12-7 from No Ml PBIS.  They were selling a subscription to the Marin Independent Journal Sunday edition.  I'm now thinking this is a scam.  They wanted too much info-including credit and debit card numbers.  I didn't give them that but I did give my e-mail address.  Hope it doesn't come back to bite me!

Call them back at their customer service number -- it is the merc news... Comcast probably sells all new subscriber numbers to them for 'local' potential deliveries...

Why do they insist on calling at 8 in the morning? I have a 646 area code (that is NYC, folks -- not anywhere near SJ!)... figure it out! And I've already told you to stop calling before!

I live in Contra Costa Country and they STILL call me! I told them I live in CC County and they said,

"oh, it's ok we can send you coupons"

UM, NO! actually stop calling me! don't send me anything. I can't imagine how a company like this can be profitable to hire people

I work for the company in question and have posted here before.

If you do not want to be called simply tell the telemarketer to 'Put you on the Do not call list' and they will not phone back. If you dont answer the call you can simply call back the number 4085350182 and tell the operator or leave a message saying your number and that fact you would like it added to the Do Not Call list.

This will stop the calls.

They called me twice but the second time i didnt answer it iswear if they call me again i will find out where they live and i will beat the living s**t out of them

Called them back a few months ago and went through the prompts to get name on their do not call list.  The calls stopped for a while but started back up yesterday.  These guys are lucky I don't live near them or I would be making a personal visit to their offices!!

Just called the number and left them a message to remove my number.  Hopefully it works...

Call back - a recording comes on asking if you want them to take your number off their list. I just did it and will know if it works next week.

....regarding the post prior to mine. You do not need to give your name or any other info to be removed from the calling list. We simply need your phone number to ensure that it is removed properly.

I will continue to monitor these forums to ensure everyone is educated as to how to make the calls stop.

There is no scam, It is simply a telemarketing call to offer you a subscription for home delivery. You are not asked for any personal information.

If you wish to not recieve any future calls please tell the caller to place you on the Do Not Call list and the calls WILL stop. We do not wish to bother people that do not want the paper. You can also call back the number 408-535-0182 and leave your number and we will place it on the Do Not Call list.

okay this is how there scam system works.  you leave your name back so they can put you on a Do not call system, but at the same time you gave them your full name and phone number. from that they have your state, city and zip code. they don't care about having you sign up to the Sj mercury news.

all they want is information so they can ID Theft you,

they have your phone number becase they got it from a site like Facebook or something, there closer and closer to unlocking you with the society we live in which sponors that myspace and facebook all the time.

Fraud Protect your SSN and ID, and as well as your Social Networking sites, make sure no personal information is being distributed. like email, and phone number.  delete old account no longer sharing your information!!!!!    I'm going to track them down and hurt them...

As I have posted before if you call back the number in question, 408-535-0182, and leave you number it will be removed from the calling list and you wil NEVER recieve a call from us again. If you asnwer the call and speak to a sales rep simply tell them that you wish to be put on the do not call list and they will do so and you will never recieve another call again. Furthermore if you wish to speak to me directly mention that to the operator or leave a message to that effect with you call back number and I will gladly call you back to answer any questions you may have.

THese people call me almost everyday since June2010, and I dont answer #' I dont know!!!!! They really need to find something better to do with there time

They call frequently. Got 2 calls today. Caller ID shows NO ML PBIS. Let the answering machine take the call but no message was left. The call screen service (*60) does not work on this number.

This number was calling me every few days over the past month (Feb-March 2010). Last week I got three calls from this number in one day alone! Once every hour! This week I've gotten 3 calls from this number. This ridiculous! Is this legal?! The calls come through on my cell so I refuse to answer. But if anyone knows who these people are please let us know.

Got a call, when answered it hung up before I got a chance to put the phone to my ear. It seems like they are trying to confirm the validity of numbers sold to them.

Its Mercury Newspaper subscription. So irritating. They call me at least twice a week.
