I smell a rat here!  Why would anyone claiming to represent the Los Angeles Police, or anything connected  with Los Angeles County, i.e.,  "C4C FOR LA CNTY", be calling from the Bay Area nearly 400 miles away?  I spotted that right away, because I used to live up there myself, and had a 408 area code too!

Glad I didn't pick up!  Number and name were suspicious, especially at 8:20 at night, but all the same it's good to find out about how the scam works ...thanks internet. ;-)

8/30 19:00 Last time I reported this # there was not ID and I wasn't a registered reporter.  Now it shows an ID and there was message from some fool asking if lady of house there from my voicemail.  Whoever it is hung up after getting no response.  I really hate month-end.  So many crap phone calls.  Truly don't know or care what they want.  I just realized FOP is Fraternal Order of Police.  They keep calling from many different numbers and it's nearly impossible to block everything.  Need to keep landline after 40 yrs. but wish I didn't need to!!

Got a call on 8/26 at 7pm.  didn't answer.  Barely audible message left about "... supports charitable organizations".

They called again but this time they called

They called again - blocked from last January.

I'm with u, I told that caller the same thing 6 months ago, they stop calling me, but this month they start calling me again, when I see caller ID I just don't pick up that call.

That's not even an La area code,give them no info.

If you want to see something interesting search "SPOOFED PHONE NUMBERS" of which this number or 000-000-0000 is only one of whatever number you desire to hide behind and map location provided by web pages and some search providers are useless. You will see how helpless you really are and why the GOV_Do Not Call List Can?t Work because these numbers are spoof (unreal). Your only hope for complete relaxation is to do what I did. Look around on Ebay or any where on the Internet for a phone ring controller or a incoming call blocker, I see ebay has a couple at around $50-$60 but read the specifications carefully and make sure they will block "OUT OF AREA" and "000-000-0000" so don't go as cheap as possible, as of right now, this is your only hope. Verizon would not help me block these numbers, the Do Not Call List cannot work, it's not possible. There is equipment out there "Panasonic with 30 number blocks" are OK but they still leave one ring get through, I have one in the garage and one in the bedroom. My main weapon sets on the desk called a "Caller ID With Ring Controller". I have it controlling the main phone on the desk and one large aux ringer, all other phone have there ringer shut completely off. You must check the specifications of what you buy but I see no other way out at this time,

Scammer claiming to be collecting donations for a fraternal police organization.

It is a total scam.  The donated money does not go to any police organization or charity.

LA County Fraternal Order of Police telemarker scum.  If there even is such a fraternal organization, the telemarker keeps 99.9% of the money they collect.

I got called by this # (408) 550-1638, while on the line with another call. Being I didn't recognize the #,  I didn't answer. Been getting strange calls to our home/cell phones of late. I'm glad I did some investigating into this..thought it was odd..."C4C FOP LA CNTY".

I got the same call this morning, same number, same caller I.D.  I said: Sir, no I don't want you to send me anything. Law enforcement Agencies have informed the public against your  type of scam. Hang up the phone. SCAM, Police and any Law Enforcement Agencies, will never ask for donations over the phone or any other way.

Got the call from this number. They said they were going to be brief and it looks like it's from the Los Angeles fraternal order of police that's what the caller ID said. The caller ID said C4C LA County.

I just got off the phone with with the same number.

A while back I donated to one of these "charities".  The following year I received a call from a new person requesting donations.  I politely replied that money was tight that year and I would only be able to donate $5.  The man insisted that $10 was the lowest acceptable donation.  I apologized that I would not be making a $10 donation.  The man became VERY rude!  I informed him that our conversation was over.  He then called me a "b*tch" and hung up on me!

All this prompted me to call my local police department to report their rude charity guy!  The lovely woman on the phone informed me that YOU WILL NEVER RECEIVE A PHONE CALL FROM THE POLICE DEPARTMENT REQUESTING DONATIONS!  Apparently, anyone can create a "charity" for the police or fire department and take donations as long as some percentage (a VERY low one!) goes to that department.  If you want to donate to the police or fire, you need to go down to your local department and hand them the money yourself!  

Don't get SCAMMED!

MY MESSAGE LEFT MESSAGE SAYING "I WILL BE BRIEF OKAY".  Caller ID showing number and name Tried to call the Number it s disconnected. Hahaha!!!! Who they think are going to full.....

Called about at 6:25 PM but did not leave a message.  Then, just now someone else called with no number or ID showing and I don't know how to report that, so I am wondering if the 2 calls may be connected.

I get calls all along from this number and they don't always ask for me..... just a few minutes ago they asked if Gary was there...... there is no Gary here!  Wish they would leave me alone

I never answer the phone let it go to voicemail.  Get this... they just called again.... but didn't leave a message.  I have a machine that tells me the number calling.

I got a call from this number too my mom said they referred themselves as the police but when my mother said hold on they immediately hanged up. Weird.

Caller ID said "C4C FOP LA COUNTY".  The caller asked for me by first name. I did not confirm my identity as I will not if I don't know the caller and am not expecting the call. I asked who exactly was calling and he changed it to he was willing to speak to anyone home. He then identified himself as being with the Los Angeles Fraternal Order of Police. He  was asking for monetary donations and wanted to know if they sent me an envelope would I be willing to make a donation. NO I WON'T!!! It is bad enough that I have to put up with illegal soliciting phone calls but now I have to put up with a supposed charity to support police officers that make more $$$ than I do??? GTFO

A fake caller ID called "a caller ID Spoof Number"

It was used to call my land line to determine if anyone was at home or if my home was without any persons present.  Possibly for criminal intent.

Called 12-14-2012, no message, no one there.

Called at 10:27 am. left no message. 2nd time as well.
