408-865-9431 kept calling at least 2-3 times daily,when answering no answer

I've received numerous calls in the last month from this number. Today was the first time I answered, and it I got a machine saying something to the effects of "sorry, we are unable to complete your call". No information regarding their business identity,etc was included which from what I've read is against FCC regulation.

I called the number back and got the machine message below. This looks like a scam to circumvent FCC rules to get you to call back and then offer something for sale. They claim to be exempt from the Do Not Call registry. Also, they offer to add you to their in-house do not call list, by having you leave your name and phone number after the beep (this was when I called them back). I did not leave my information as I have no idea who they area.

Good evening. Please accept our apologies for missing you on our recent phone call to your home. The call was regarding a special sales offer. We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience our call may have caused. We are currently using the telephone to contact residents throughout the community. And we are offering a special family ticket to a benefit show sponsored by one of our many non-profit clients. Ticket sales are for $40 each and admit the entire family. Our clients are exempt from the do-not-call list. However, if you wish to be on our in-house do not call list, you may do so now. After the tone please clearly leave your name and telephone number including your area code. Please allow us 72 hours to process your phone number. Thank you.

I filed an FCC complaint about this. Please do the same at http:// esupport.fcc.gov/complaints.htm if you receive an unwanted call from the same number. The only way for any action to be taken is by filing a complaint. The more complaints received, the more likely the FCC is to issue a warning and fine whoever's behind the call.

I have received three callals now from 408-865-9431.  I get a recorded message saying "due to a technical problem we are unable to complete this call right now." Sounds like a variant on the automated boiler room where the computer dials numbers until someone answers.

Left a VM on my machine more than once saying sorry to miss talking to you in person and some mumbling - not professional association what so ever!

they call at least once a day and never leave a message. Who are they and how do I get them to stop? I am registered on the Do Not Call list which I am begining to think is the Call List

Someone called me from this number, it was a recordered message saying "due to a technical problem, we cannot speak with you right now, bye, bye"

They called my cell as well. Claimed to be related to Santa Clara Police Association.

I told the guy that I do not want anyone to call my cell with the calls like this. I do not know where they got my name and #.

I get the same calls, but the number is 408-865-9464. If I answer, I get the "technical difficulties" recording.  If I let it go to voicemail, it leaves a blank voicemail.  If I call that number and wait through the horrible long message, it finally lets me do an unsubscribe thing, which is supposed to kick in within 72 hours per the recording. But I got another call last night, well past the 72 hours since I unsubscribed. The calls always come through while a member of my household is trying to sleep, waking him up.  This is HARRASSMENT and there should be something we can do to stop it.

They repeatedly called my house, which is listed a private number.  I wonder where they got my number. They never leave any message though.

received call caller id states 408-865-9431 "SBC Messaging".  this seems wrong.  I have answered the phone in the past and are very pushy and will not let you off until to say you will make a donation or hang up.  this wrong and it needs to stop.

Here is the story.  In 2005 and earlier, SBC (Southern Bell Corp.) was purchased by AT&T.  Users of SBC Messaging (the down-town answering machine) were for the most part converted to a similar service by AT&T.  My friend who is an ex-tech with SBC tells me there are still many servers that AT&T has not been able to assimilate and some they have no idea what they do.  They are afraid to shut them off until they do.  Some of these servers managed the SBC Messaging system and still think they are supposed to be doing something.  By default, if there is an undelivered message sitting out there for your phone, then it tries to deliver it and in some convoluted way it thinks you called in for messages.  Problem is, part of the system is no longer integrated so it simply plays the only error message that applies.  If you happen to hit the right button, you may get your message which may explain the non-profit messages reported??????  I think that is close to what I was told, if anyone can add to this it would be enlightening or humorous, or both.  Dont bother calling AT&T you will get their Mumbai office.

I have had the same "...were sorry but due to technical difficulties on our end we are unable to answer your call..."  I suggest we all post an irresistible ad in craigslist women for men using 408-865-9431.  After they receive hundreds or even thousands of calls maybe they will change THEIR number!

I, too, have received such calls from 408-865-9431, so I called them back and left my name and # along with instructions not to call me again.  

AT&T advised me to report it to their "Annoyance Call Bureau" at
800-348-8727.  They also offered to install a blocking feature on my line for $7/month which I declined.

Has anyone had success in getting these calls to stop?

this number has called 6 times now and every time it's a recorded voice saying "Because of a problem, we can't speak with you.'
I have call blocking with my AT&T account.  I tried to add the number to call block, but I get a message saying this number is not available with this service.  What the $$$$ is that?  I called AT&T.  They transferred me to different people several times, but no one would help.  They suggested I change my phone number.  I asked if they were serious.  There has got to be something we can do??

caller ID says: SBC 408 865-9431but no message left. They call every single day, several times a day. NUISANCE!!!!!!!!!!!

Got a call tonight at 5:43. Picked it up after the answering machine already picked it up and it was at the end of a recorded message...said something about "sorry"

Was a guy claiming to be from the Fire Fighter's burn fund or something, asking for donations. If I want to donate to the firefighters, I'll write them a check directly. I gave the finger to this telemarketing. Blocked calls from the number. Problem solved.

I answered my cell phone, it was a telemarker wanting me to donate to the Fireman's fund. The police department needs to do some massive arresting. The law says Police and Firemen do not solicite the public for donations. I guess the police are too busy searching for terrorists, they don't have time for illegal telemarketer solicitations.

Yes, they called my cell phone too. I currently pay $.50 cents per minute. The person who called my cell phone told me he is with the Fireman's fund. Isn't that illegal punishable by a prison sentence. Firemen are not suppose to beg the public for money. Our economy is in very bad shape. The firemen think they can squeeze blood out of a stone???!!! This phone number really needs to be reported to the police department so they can prosecute immediately.

I've also been getting this call multiple times daily, with the "due to a technical problem..." message if I pick it up.  I've decided they've either set up their robo-call system incorrectly, or don't have enough staff to pick up the calls that get answered.  

As stated above, the recorded message if you call back states that they're exempt from "do not call", but it does offer the option of getting on their local "do no call" list if you leave a name and number.  Whether this will work or increase spam calls is unclear.

My cordless phone system lets me block calls, and this one's going on the list.  Blocked calls ring once, then go to "caller blocked".

Every day and night sometimes I get either a message left or phone call: Please accept our sincere apology. Goodbye.  This has been going on about a month. It is very annoying.  What can I do?  Is it expensive to get a block for one phone number? I am on the do not call list.  How can this number be exempt?

They call every day day now from 408-865-9431 "SBC Messaging" and leave a automessage that says "please accept our apology"... well, their apology is not accepted!!!

Same as everyone. Can someone do something to stop them?

I've been getting calls from this number several times a day for months, but if I answer, it's a robo call that says, "Do to a technical problem on our end, we're unable to speak with you personally. Please accept our sincere apology. Good-bye." A live human being has never been on the other end, so I'm amazed by reading the other comments. I called the number and a computer answers by saying they are sorry that they missed me when they called! BS! No one ever talks to me! Then they say that their client is exempt from the Do Not Call List, then launches into a very long "special offer." It's so long that I hung up. Is there any way to stop this nonsense? I'm am sick to death of constantly rushing to answer the phone and get this kind of junk.

Called and I answered. Said he was with the San Jose Fire Fighters. Told him I don't want these calls. Caller-Id was deceptive said SBC Messaging

Just got the same number on my phone!  It also said SBC Messaging.  I ran to the phone but the answering machine picked up...then I heard BURPING!!  How unprofessional and rude!
