Caller said she was from Maryland gummint asking if I had a business under a certain name. I did not. She said she was trying to find a particular business owner with my name who had an inactive company so they could "close it out." So far as I know your company is automatically "closed out" when required annual reports are not filed.

i received a cal from this number 410-462-0120

We got a telephone message on a Sat at 11 am.... quoting that they had not recevied a second qtr unemployement report from Dr. Hirsch..... how would they know his title, itis not on documents, and why call on a Saturday - govt offices and govt officials are the laziest people, why would they call on Sat, and why would they remind you - they just fine you if you dont submit paperwork in time. Obviously a con!

The woman on the phone sounded slow and did not seem to know what she was calling for. She asked if we had any employees working in Maryland.
She called back a few minutes later to ask what our company does and for a "social". I said "do yo mean a Tax ID number", she said "No...um, I will just look in the paperwork for it".
I found the call a bit odd since I know for a fact government offices are closed today (I tried to pick up a building permit this morning and there were notices up saying today and tomorrow are government holidays).

I called them back and the message was the number is not in service

why cloak the number?

This is a cloaked number from the Maryland State Department of Unemployment.  They are investigating you or someone you know.

This person says he is from the Unemployment office and wants to verify an address.  I called them back and the message is that the number is not available.  What the F***?  How can someone call and then I cannot call them back?
