Received email in response to a Craigslist posting with that number as a potential buyer.  I was unable to confirm the email or phone number as valid.

Yep, I am in Florida selling a couch on Craigslist and am going through this with "Sophia" right now.  I literally have the check in hand and will be going to my bank tomorrow to "verify" the check.  I was pretty sure this was a scam the whole time but after reading the above posts, well I pretty much know the bank will laugh me out the door.  I will post a follow up tomorrow.

P.S. - Anyone interested in a like new white wicker sofa?  :-)

Okay, I have had a plether of emails of this type from different people saying the exact same thing.  

At first I was getting emails saying he does not have time to meet me to look at my chair but wants my name and address and would courier me a check, then the second time, a different name, same story but this time UPS.  

Now I am getting them from Sophia with this number with the same story.  

I wonder if I am ever going to sell this chair.

Her "secretary" Sophia Brown, 107 Russell Ave Githerburg MD 20877, messed up the first check then sent the "real one"
It was sent from Maryland but had a Charlotte NC postmark on it.

They actually sent a "check" for 3x the amount to cover shipping.  I had my bank check and, SURPRISE! there were insufficient funds. would have cost 30$ for a returned check.
People suck!

I got the exact same e-mail messages trying to sell a couch in Florida -- but this woman calls herself Sofia and the number is

HAHAHA ;D same exact e-mail I got and thought maybe real since I have bought several items from craigslist without any problems until I received a funny looking cashiers check from Citibank( for twice the amount of the couches) which I have used those for payments in the past and can tell the difference. Gotta love the web; all you have to do is search when you have a doubt and here we are.

I got the same message on the West Palm List. How about telling which list you are using. Area code 410  serves the eastern half of Maryland.

Received an email in reply to my Craigslist ad. Email reply stated:

Yes got the same message in an email about a Craig's List ad. I am sure its some kind of scam trying to use your phone number for some reason. Maybe something to do with long distance calling or something. People are pretty tricky or at least try to be.

I got the same exact message for a table and chairs... I knew it was a scam instantly, as they all do the same thing. They mention the "item" without being specific, then they want to respond ASAP...
I would never call the phone number as I would be worried that it is one of those that will charge you $30 per minute or something like that... you could sit on the phone for 15 minutest trying to figure out what was going on (speech impaired scam) and then the phone company sends you a bill for $500.
Got to be very careful....

Posted a bedroom set on Craigs list in Phoenix Az on Sunday and got a email from "her"  on monday same message as everyone else, do you still have it, i would like to see it, call me back im speach impaired yada yada!!!

It's a total scam. Don't cash the cashier's check you receive -- it's fake. By all means, don't send them your merchandise. The email originates from India (take the full header and use a site like Geobytes to find out).

It's not going to hurt you to open the email (unless you get an attachment -- I didn't), or reply. I replied with a not very nice email, as I usually do with idiot Nigerian scammers. Even though she's from India, I put "her" in the same category.

I recieved the same exact email I'm selling several items on Craig's list. I'm in Florida I noticed some of these people writting about this are from other states. I just had a gut feeling it was a scam, I noticed it was from Maria Holms on my email but she signed off as Chloe then i found this page. Don't give any info or respond back to it.

Below the dotted line is the email I got in response to a craigslist ad in Florida for bedroom furniture. Since it had the name Chloe at the bottom with a Maryland phone number..but the name Marie Holmes at the top of the email I decided to google it and pulled up this page.

I have decided not to call or email since since it can't be legit  wanting furniture in California and Florida. Even referring to sending a "bank official check" sounds like it is a foreign scammer to me. If I email back I will be on every scammer email list!

I got the same message for my ad in craigslist for a sofa. Word to word the same message. She emailed me yesterday to say she mailed the check....I am confused now if it is genuine or scam!!!

I just got a meesage from this person (no phone number but same name and speech impaired thing) for something I listed on Craig's List.  I suspected it was a scam.  I hope they find out who this is and report them.
