These people have been calling and harassing me for YEARS.  I have politely, then not so politely asked them to stop calling but they have not.  They asked for a person that I don't know but still continue to call and call and call.  Can someone alert the university officials of what is being done?   If it's a scam they should somehow be stopped, and if it's for real, it's a real shame.

Prank Call
This caller rang the phone more than 16 times until the phone answering system was activated.
No message left and has called before.  This is a Scammer!    Univ of Pittsburg is on the CID unit but they don't act like a telemarker of the fine institution.    Please mark them as SCAMMER and file the paper with www.ccpd.us.

No one operate like this if they want donations or is alerting the alumni.

A woman called asking for a donation to the University of Pittsburgh.  I thought it was odd the a university would call at almost 9:00pm on a Sunday.  So I star 69 and got the number and checked the Internet.

I just got a call from this number from a Chemistry Professor at Pitt (in Chevron building)...people who call OUT from Pitt will show up as calling from this number UNLESS they do something to show their personal office extension.  In sum, it could be ANY department at Pitt, not necessarily soliciting donations.

The University of Pittsburgh and UPMC are totally separate and distinct entities...

actually they are bound at the hip.

But that's beside the point.

412-624-4444 is the University of Pittsburgh main campus trunk line, and the operator tells me there is no way to identify whom the call actually came from.

Probably why it's so hard for them to trace bomb scares ?
Probably something that needs fixed.

This maybe a general display number for different U. of Pittsburgh functions.  It's what showed up when HR called me with a job offer (I'd applied for the job, was aware that the call was supposed to come, and got a voicemail with a callback number that could be verified to the caller via the pitt.edu website).

Had a voice-mail notification on my work phone, and when I accessed my VM account, I discovered that someone from this # had called, but didn't actually leave a message. (I could hear some breathing in the background before they hung up, though.)

The Do Not Call List does not apply to Non-profit organizations. If you pick up the phone and say "I'm not interested. Take me off your list." They should remove you from the calling list. If you say something vague like "I'm busy right now" or "Thanks. I'm good", they will keep calling you. It's best to be upfront and get to the directly to the point.

it is in fact an alumni relations rep (usually a current student) calling to "chat" then ask for money....if I had any money, i'd donate.  getting a masters in public sector mgt really doesnt pay well enough to have any disposable income!

Ditto to what Anon said.  UPMC and Pitt are not the same thing.  While they are affiliated with each other they are separate entities and do not have the same phone numbers.  The fake line for UPMC calls is 412-802-3100 (I don't remember the exact last 4 but it is something like this).  412-624 numbers are for Pitt.  This particular one is used for a variety of places throughout the university that don't wish to have their personal lines show up on caller id.

I called UPMC and was told this number is a trunk line and could be used by 35,000 different people. I tried to explain that they were calling a cell phone, but got no where.

They call at all hours and always want a donation.  Wasn't the thousands and thousands of dollars spent on my husbands education enough for them???  My kids will be going to college soon...there's our donation.  I'm sick of it.  I've asked three different times to not bother my husband and they continue. Next time I'm telling them he's missing.

This is a bunch of kids from U. Pitt working the phone lines to solicit $$$$ donations from alumni, faculty, staff, parents of students, etc. to support the multi-billion dollar empire.   You know, the kind of call you get  because of the fact that they know you are leading a barely middle-class existence, they immediately suggest a $1,000 donation from you.  Great stuff - tell them you're not interested, want to be removed from their call list, and then hang up.
